This thing fucking sucked! There was never any reason for any of the characters to explore the backrooms. They're just horrific deathtraps with no treasure, nor hostages; yet also no tension, as the monsters were slow and lumbering, and obviously viable exits from them clearly visible in every pursuit scene. How am I supposed to care about the lives of characters who so trivially throw their own away?Cinema really is dead. Not just Hollywood. What a joke of a picture.
You don't need a reason to explore the unknown
Know I'm kinda like to the party, but I don't go to movies much anymore because they suck so hard now. Good to know that's unchanged.
>>220966029Just say you're 30, unc
>>220966051You also don't need a reason to run in the opposite direction of the seven-foot, slowly-moving zombie chasing after you when there's visibly an exit in eyeshot of yourself and the audience right behind you.Instead, she not only stays, but manages to successfully subdue the zombie after it gets on top of her by gently tapping it in the head with a rock, like that's supposed to do any good against a vastly bigger and stronger opponent, and yet these fucking lovetaps draw blood and kill the main monster? a monster that moments ago subdued a full grown man in one strike by biting him to death? It was hysterical! I cried butterfly tears!
>>220966079Aren't you too young to be posting on a site like this?Surely only a child, and a zoomie at that, would be dumb enough not to notice the complete lack of survival instincts possessed by literally any character in the movie.
>>220966029zoomroom is for certain audience only
>>220966127Just admit you didn't get itYou're an old man, past his prime, yelling at the energetic and vibrant youthSad
>>220966127aren't you a little old to be getting trolled this effortlessly?
>>220966111The head is a vulnerable spot, what are you mumbling about?
>>220966202Not when you're a literal woman, pinned to the ground, armed with a small concrete handprint, and your attacker's at least seven feet tall and literally doesn't feel pain. It was an absurd asspull. She needed a gun or something.
>>220966153Oh, so you're saying that you have to be retarded to "get it." I see
>>220966265I was drunk and high off my ass when I saw this great stinking turd, and I *still* thought it sucked.
>>220966029You lost Nolan, no one is watching Odyssey.
>>220966153only zoomchads can understand the sophisticated stylings and themes of Backrooms. Uncs are just too old and stupid to get it.
How did Chiwetel even know he wouldn't change in The Backrooms? Did he have a timer or something that told him this? Why trust that he won't just grow old and die there? And how did he learn to find food or a bathroom in there?
>>220966029I bet your mother is real proud of you for writing this.
>>220966127>>220966153>Two 40+ Year old men larping
The big problem for me is the timeskip. I don't think enough was established beforehand to lay the foundation for what happened after in terms of the characters. It feels like a stumbling block. And for that matter I don't think enough was done to explore Clark's character and psychology early on to justify the big climax being a dressing-down of his personality.
>>220966202Cope. The groid showed you that these things can't be killed and don't feel pain. He stabs a knife through one's neck and there is no response, no pain, nothing. But then after seeing this she attacks one of them and he actually does feel pain and has a weak spot and bleeds. It's stupid.
>>220966543The head is a common weak spot for zombys.
>>220966029>here was never any reason for any of the characters to explore the backrooms. It's an impossibly large structure attached to one specific section of wall in a shitty furtniture store that you have to impossibly pass through to enter. Why wouldn't people go in?
>>220966369Why would he assume any of those things would happen? Why would you?
>>220966079>last week>only zoomers hate this movie because they expected non stop jumpscares!>now>if you dislike it you must be an unc!
>>220968260Just stop thinking and consume product
>>220968656>there's a new room in my store that wasn't there before>I better not enter it unless it changes me somehow or makes me age super fast because those are things that some rooms can do to people!
>>220966029In the opening scene, literally the first 3 minutes, you see that the more they run eventually they hit some obstacle. A closed door, a narrow passage, some weird shaped incline, etc. this happened in every instance of someone getting caught. And the layout changes on each entry, Clark draws a map, then later on bitches about the floor plan changing.
>>220968731Almost like they were... misremembering the layout.
>>220968827No like he physically draws a map of it.
>>220966468>I don't think enough was established beforehand to lay the foundation for what happened after in terms of the characters.it didn't matter because Clark was going to die anyway, and the whole point of his arc is that he doesn't change. Mary's arc is very simple and straightforwardly presented. the only part you might have missed is her realizing that she became a therapist from a desire to save her mother, and her second realization that Phil the scientist is fascinated with the backrooms because he hasn't had the same character arc as her, of realizing that there's actually nothing there to discover.
>>220966051i wouldn't expect a non-white to get it
>>220968897Mary isn't a sympathetic character, she keeps around that fossil because she preferred being kept inside and away from people. That's what her mom did, keep her inside all the time. All she did as a therapist was tell everyone else that they had her problem of being cagey, she even gaslit Clark into it when all the guy wanted was to stop being a furniture salesman and become an architect.
>>220968845Could also just be that trying to remember the backrooms causes it to become misremembered, same as everything else. Like trying to map it makes it change.
>>220966029>There was never any reason for any of the characters to explore the backrooms. They're just horrific deathtraps with no treasure
>>220969267The abundance of urbex videos where people trespass on dangerous, decaying property full of black mold is all the evidence we need to say that if a strange place were suddenly found, people would explore it without needing to be as suicidal as a cave diver.
>>220968689This. People here are acting like every character has watched 400 hours of SCP lore and knows anomalous spaces have status effects. It's a weird employee-only hallway in a furniture store, not a sign saying "WARNING: TIME DILATION AND MONSTER MAZE". Any normal person is at least poking their head in.
>>220966127>lack of survival instinctsI hope you are this zealous in every horror movie thread. If not stop being a hypocritical douche nozzle because you could say this about virtually every horror film, you massive faggot.
>>220970553the hundreds of hours of SCP and liminal horror lore is also fucking retarded and was added by faggots who were all scrambling to throw their super cool original spooky idea into the collective lore so they could get upboats and pretend to be e-famous because a channel with 20k subscribers referenced their super cool, unique monster, the Shittler who climbs up your butt and turns your blood to almond water.
The CC still life was pretty anticlimactic. I think a better villain/monster at the end would have been Clark going insane trying to kill the therapist. Using his advanced knowledge of the backrooms to drive her towards the CC still life and other hazards. The finale should have been the therapist killing Clark, carrying the theme that some things can't be solved.
>>220966309>I lobotomized myself>my opinion matterspottery
>>220966543There is evidence to suggest pirate clark is the real clark, the clark that tied the therapist to the chair is missing a facial scar/crease that OG clark has in the beginning. On top of this pirate clarks captured remains have x-rays on the wall in the medical room. Unlike other still-life entities he's got all the parts of a human under there, fully functioning brain and all.>I watched it in bad faith and missed small but important detailsYou're losing your touch gramps and I say this as a 36 year old.
>>220966029A24 can only make movies that require the characters to act retarded and unnatural in order to move the plot forward. It is terrible, untalented millennial and zoomer writing.
>>220966029This thing fucking sucked! There was never any reason for any of the penguin to explore the mountains. Its a horrific deathtrap with no treasure, nor hostages; yet also no tension, as the polar vears are lumbery and obviously viable exits from them clearly visible in every direction.Herzog is a hack!!!
It's just a movie. Quit nitpicking it.
>>220970183Said strange places are part of the natural world. And said threat is mold rather than monsters who actively try to kill you on sight. And there's sure as fuck no way he'd convince those kids to go with him voluntarily.
>>220970633No you can't. Last horror film I saw where the characters had this little sense of self-preservation was *You're Next*, and I shat on that just as hard as this. Even the *Evil Dead* remake wasn't as bad as this.
>>220970937Implying this picture would be improved with sobriety? It sucked enough as is!
>>220972093You can make movies where the characters have some sense of self-preservation!This is why people hate making Greedo shoot first. Han, forced to sit down, has a gun pointed at him by a hardened criminal who's openly boasting that he's looking forward to killing him, and he has qualms on the world's most open-and-shut self-defense justifiable homicide unless said criminal shoots *him* first? But that's at least one second of idioticy. Not minutes of the actors clearly, noticeably moving too slowly or outright ignoring exits in their and our own eyeshot.
>>220973177its a hallucinogen movie not a booze movie.
>>220971356A24 didn't make this film. They just distributed it.
Dumbass KANE did NOTHING with the "I'm obsessed with the backrooms" angle that he completely glossed over, it was just implied briefly with dialogue that Nigger Man had gone way way deeper and spent way more time in there than he apparently did. I bet Le Studio made him limit the runtime and he's a good little quisling.
>>220968897>it didn't matter because Clark was going to die anywayHow? He's a furniture-store owner who liked to drink too much, not a cancer or HIV patient or something. His outside world problems weren't remotely bad enough, and the backrooms not nearly rewarding enough, to justify his suicidal lack of regard for his own wellbeing. He didn't even take a gun with him into the damn place!
>>220973262if Han had that much self-preservation he wouldn't have become a galactic smuggler.
>>220971927But Herzog is a hack and he completely concocted that fake penguin story because his documentary was boring as shit nigger
>>220969267>>220970183Urban videos are made for profit by people who want to get YouTube views. Chiwetel has no such instinct. He's just catching footage to show his therapist. It was dumb enough a guy like him even *had* a therapist. A divorced alcoholic with a full-time, not-particularly-stressful job and no court order nor notable health problems? Guy like that'd see a hooker! not a therapist. Especially not in 1990.
>>220973392So spending years as a hardened criminal made him *more* willing to give the chance to let dangerous alien hitmen who already have a gun pointed at his face and openly boast that they're looking forward to killing him a sporting enough chance to *let him shoot first*? while he's pinned in a corner and forced to sit down? No. It was fucking idiotic. All the worse since it was a ratings-board-mandated change to keep the SE PG. Fucking asswipes at the MPAA think *that* is somehow an acceptable message for children? Utterly disgusting. The worst sort of suicidal sympathy.
