Regardless of what you (or anyone else) thinks of him, it's obvious that there exists a not insignificant number of people who don't like blatant woke or feminist bs in movies and would rather avoid if possible. As long as his reviews are relatively consistent, that group and others can rely on his synopsis or opinions without having to sacrifice their time and money on something they wouldn't otherwise watch. Drinker is usually pretty based but his review of mortal kombat 2 was just wrong. He tried to pass off the subversive choice of Katana being the one to defeat fucking Shao Kahn as not really being insanely woke which it obviously is. Liu Kang is suppose to be the hero of the story

It's the equivalent of making a fucking Street Fighter movie where instead of Ryu defeating M. Bison, Sakura comes in at the last minute to destroy him which would objectively be retarded. Sakura much like Katana are weaker secondary characters who wouldn't be able to take down the "big bad" antagonists of the entire fucking franchises. There's absolutely no way in hell you can look at that decision in MK2 and possibly think it's anything other than the filmmakers wanting to have a female character upstage the more powerful male heroes for their own personal agendas. You objectively wouldn't be able to defend it in the context of the lore of the series or even in the context of the game this movie is suppose to be based on. It's purposely subversive and poorly written.

I just think when it comes to certain things like MK, Drinker doesn't have a real investment in it like he does for LOTR or Star Wars. He's more willing to excuse these bullshit decisions because he simply does not care about the lore and story of Mortal Kombat the same way invested fans are. I'd argue they're more often than not quite good and offer fair and completely reasonable criticism that's relatively short and digestible. This artform is extremely subjective but he's one of the better voices when it comes to criticism and very few would disagree with that.

He hated Love and Thunder but loved this? They are the same movie. 90% of the comedy is about how stupid, clumsy, and awkward Adam/Thor is. Every scene is full of quips and quirks. Every serious moment is ruined by forced jokes.
