This character is so fucking real. I have known this guy at least three times in my life, my chemistry teacher, the doctor I apprenticed under, and a church organist, and they were all this exact person. Wise, empathetic, stalwart and left-leaning. I love this guy, I wish he was my dad.

Went to go early life the writer and was surprised to see he also wrote The Wild Geese which is a wild military kino where the shoot tons of Africans. Although there's a whole racial sub-plot to it... meh... the writer seems to be confused about a lot of things.
