>For Jack and Will's underwater walk in 'The Curse of the Black Pearl, the team staged the moment in a controlled water tank, with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom working on a shallow platform under an overturned rowboat that was rigged and weighted above them. Safety divers stayed close, and the crew used murky water, set dressing and carefully placed lights to make the tank read as the harbour floor. Visual effects extended the environment, cleaned up any rigging and refined the look of the trapped air so it plays as one smooth trek across the seabed. >The gag was born out of real physics. An upside-down boat pushed into the water traps indeed traps air, and someone inside that pocket can breathe for a short time. However as you go deeper the pressure compresses the air, the bubble shrinks, the boat's buoyancy keeps trying to push everything back to the surface and the oxygen inside starts to run down.
