I drove across Bulgaria a few years ago. Cities like Sofia and Plovdiv are alright, the nature is top tier, but the rural areas can be very shabby and the roads are among the worst in Europe. Some times it's a slalom course between the potholes that are so big that it'll either get you stuck or ruin your car.
