It's more annoying than the way something that's just popular is overrated. It's an especially obnoxious intersection of mainstream popularity + people who think owning physical media or having a letterboxd is a personality obsessing over him. There should be a Mt Rushmoore of directors only cunts fawn over with Yorgos, Refn, Nolan and the Donnie Darko guy (they swear Southland Tales is actually a masterpiece because it makes fun of americans or something, something no other movie has ever done apparently.)

Just finished up this movie and I thought it was fantastic. I’m confused why everyone thinks it’s so bad. Am I just a casual??

I’ve never really been into movies, but this one had me biting my nails. Maybe it’s just because I don’t read into the production stuff, I’m so casual that I’ve never even heard of this guy Yorgos Lanthimos.

Jesse Plemons’ performance was just outstanding, I loved the contemporary political allegory, I really felt transported into the movie and I liked the feel good ending. Maybe it’s bad that the ending everyone knew would happen, well, happened.

I guess this is just bad because I’m not a movie nerd. I could seriously go on and on about how I loved this. I’m so surprised everyone disagrees lol.

The graph you posted is vaguely resembling a (relatively flat) Gaussian distribution, swayed to the right. I assume that means that you tend to rate things higher on average, and that you avoid giving extreme ratings. There's nothing wrong with your approach. I'd even argue it's the most common approach people take when rating anything.
>>
>>221012195
I agree. But I do try to only watch stuff that I know will be formally valuable or that I'll like. I don't watch every Transformers movie or every new mainstream release just to inflated my viewing numbers. I generally pick films that I am confident are worth my time. Most of the time I do get something out of them. That's why I lean towards the right I think. If I was one of the users with 10k films, I'm sure I'd be severely to the left

There are 247 countries and territories on Letterboxd. Everyone builds their own watchlist, but if you're too lazy, you can just copy someone else's list. For the smaller countries, I just sorted by popularity and filtered out feature films, otherwise I'd never get through it. It's a fun challenge, kind of like a little window into the world.

>>221018594
If the challenge is to watch everything, including countries I've already ticked off, then I've kind of cheated lol. I'm just doing the ones I was missing (around 160 or so), mostly small or underrepresented countries.

Out of the ones I've seen so far, I've liked:

>La Soufrière: Waiting for an Inevitable Catastrophe (Guadeloupe)
>Will My Parents Come See Me (Somalia)
>End of Summer (Antarctica)
>You Hide Me (Ghana)
>Madagascar, a Journey Diary (Madagascar)

Weirdest one
>Ulaanbaatarization (Mongolia)

Hands down the worst were:
>Black Sheep: The Skip Sullivan Story (Cayman Islands)
>Something About Soraya (Saint Kitts and Nevis)

If you liked France on a Pebble - that kind of slice of life doc about an isolated community -I highly recommend Vittorio De Seta's short documentaries (pic related)

like I said, I was just doing my own thing, so I don't know what the rules to the green map challenege are. my personal rules were to watch a film from every country, including countries I'd already seen something from, and to try and use feature length films directed by someone from that country whenever possible or at the very least shorts directed by someone from that country before watching something directed by someone outside of the country. I'm possibly planning on doing another challenge for every language as well if I ever finish this one. favorites for me so far have been
>Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus (Croatia) (also probably the weirdest)
>Lemonade Joe (Czechoslovakia)
>Last and First Men (Iceland)
honorable mention to Los Muertos (Argentina), The Law (Burkina Faso), Conspirators of Pleasure (Czechia), The Adopted Son (Kyrgyzstan), The Orator (Samoa), and Do Androids Dream (Spain), as well as The Displaced which I mentioned above
as for the worst, I agree with Black Sheep: The Skip Sillivan Story. some other really bad ones were
>Bottleneck (Grenada)
>BATMoN vs MAJURo (Marshall Islands)
>Poor Project Noriko (Liechtenstein)
>Expedition to Bouvetøya (Bouvet Island)
>Our Anguilla (Anguilla)
the main thing I liked about France on a Pebble was the cinematography. I even made a 3x3 webm out of it >>220991239
>>
>At the outset, the film was at least two and a half hours long. Luckily I showed it to some people and they said, “Aie, aie!’ So I cut three quarters of an hour. And in comparison with the original scenerio I’d already cut half an hour. So it could have lasted three hours. It was cut mainly in the transitions, and then there were two things which took up a hell of a lot of time. The cutting was done so that the film could be more successful commercially, but I took care to make sure that the topography of the village was respected. So in order to get from one place to another, even if it meant going right across the village, one went right across following the guy or whoever it might be. That took plenty of time!
Damnnn niggar... this could've been proto-Satantango or sum shi.
