The biggest psyop in cinema history is people pretending this is a good movie. I wanted to get back into star wars because i haven't seen this in like 20+ years and i just had to drop it because it's completely unwatchable
>>220990716the worst thing is the dialogue. Heavy handed, full of exposition dumps etc it drags as hell
>That part where they swing on the rope in the Death StarIt's almost like a joke how cheap and derivative it is
cinematographically speaking, the only good, competently made things in the entire franchise are The Force Awakens and Acolyte but you're not ready to accept that truth
>>220990848Force awakens looks like a cheap tv show, last jedi has much better cinematography despite being an even shittier movie
>>220990716It was great for 1977.
>>220990848Force awakens looks like garbage.
George Lucas was never a great director. In fact, he only ever wanted to sell toys. He's retarded like that.Irvin Kershner showed him how it was done with The Empire Strikes Back.
>>220990776It's supposed to be a throwback to old serials like Flash Gordon. It's supposed to be fun and trashy. Nobody (besides those with the mind of a child) claimed it was some kind of masterpiece.
>>220991442>Nobody (besides those with the mind of a child) claimed it was some kind of masterpiece.that's very dishonest. It's widely regarded as a groundbreaking masterpiece>>220991161>>220991246cinematographically doesn't just mean cinematography. I meant overall. TFA and acolyte are the only good star wars things
>>220991409>In fact, he only ever wanted to sell toys. He's retarded like thatRetarded? That's genius. Dude made bank and invested his money in bettering film. Only an actual retard would think otherwise
>>220991161>a bloo bloo luke was sad and that made me feel sad so writing badalec guinness was right >>220991589>bettering filmlol.
>>220991578>It's widely regarded as a groundbreaking masterpieceBecause of the TECHNOLOGY and TECHNIQUES. Same reason people were wowed by Superman.
>>220990848>>220991578cinematographically speaking you will never be a real woman
>>220991614The prequels used a lot of actual sets and miniatures. Blue screen was done to achieve things you can't do with those. And there's nothing wrong with that.
>>220990716Not a single chicken jockey! Unwatchable!
>>220991656There’s a lot wrong with making practical effects look like cgi in hopes the cgi won’t stick out
>>220990716>it's another troll bait "shit on Star Wars" threadYeah, I think its time to put "star wars" on the filter out list. You faggots only troll nonstop. It's SO tiresome.
>>220991784No there isn't. It's all part of the process.
>>220990716Ending is great. You have to remember people were still down in the 70s almost like we are now.
>>220991938watch first 40 min of new hope and then immediately watch first episode of acolyte (also 40 min)
>>220990848The 1 vs 12 lightsaber fight is good in The Acolyte until you realize 11 of the 12 are acting like they're fighting someone by swinging lightsabers around, but the trees obscure what's going on.
it's fundamentally a kids movie, but a good one.people who treat it as high art are retarded
>>220990716>pretending this is a good movie. This, but ESB.
>>220990716Fuck you. I was a kid when I came out and I liked it. I was too young to fall for psyops like Santa and God and tooth fairy then.
At the time of it's release it was probably really awesome in theaters. But yeah, it's been 50 years and it was never meant to be kino.
Only the ending is good.
>>220990776Literally the entire point, bro.
>>220992015>then immediately watch first episode of acolyteI'm not a faggot, sorry
>>220992219that's because you're unsure about your convictions and don't want them tested lol. Clear juxtaposition of the two shows everyone how badly made new hope is and how wrong you were about acolyte
>>220991442It *is* a masterpiece, but it's also low brow by design (while slipping in just enough esoteric spiritual concepts).People are unironically too dim to get Star Wars, let alone 1980's Flash Gordon. They don't understand the earnest embrace of trashy disposable pop cultural imagery.
>>220992098I think "high art" is a pretentious concept, and art is just art.
>>220991656almost all of these cherrypicked images are models that appeared in 2-3 second long establishing shots
>one of the first modern blockbusters, inspired movies after that to sacrifice story for spectacle>success of merchandise made so much imitator media whose only focus is selling merchandise>star wars fandom being the seed to modern geekdom>inspired generations of lore dorks with their expanded universe>star wars toys inspired lame modern collecter culture>Prequels are directly responsible for modern soulless digital cinematography and green screen productions>the sequels helped kickstart the endless reboot and nostalgia pandering we’re leaving throughStar Wars is the most damaging peace of “art” ever created.
>>220990759>the force?>he fought in the clone wars?
>>220990716>The biggest psyop in cinema historyYou're right OP. I can't believe no one has figured this out in 50 fucking years! Thank christ an inbred mentally ill mystery meat product of rape like yourself figured it out!
>>220992371As if any of Alec Guinness' old war movies are as spiritually or intellectually deep as SW is. SW has the lasting appeal it does because there is real stuff there. Little bits of Buddhism. Little bits of Christian morality. Simple timeless life lessons. This is also why the new movies suck, and are ironically closer to trashy war movies from the 50's and 60's.>Yoho! We defeated those Jerries again, wot wot!Like anyone gives a shit.
>>220991784>making practical effects look like cgiThat wasn't the goal. The miniatures in phantom menace still hold up well, mostly because that movie was shot on FILM. With Clones and Sith, they switched to digital cameras and digital composition. So even when you have a scene where Mace and Yoda are walking through the jedi temple, and the jedi temple was a miniature, it looks like its a desktop wall paper because all the depth gets sucked out of those composite shots and they end up looking fakey-fake.
I despise Star Wars as a franchise, but Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back have merits. They aren't movies I'll ever see again because, let me reiterate, I hate Star Wars, but they are objectively good blockbusters Everything else is garbabe: prequels, sequels, ewoks tv movies, streaming slop, 80s cartoons, horrid computer animated shows, etc. Fuck Star Wars.
>>220990759It's just constant pointless yapping. It's hard to appreciate occasional great shots because someone is interrupting you with retarded talking
>>220992274>People are unironically too dim to get Star WarsStar wars didn't go over anyone's head.
>>220990716>>220990759>>220990776>>220990848STFU you stupid pajeet
>>220990716>People feel cool now for hating on Star Wars because of how Disney has fumbled the recent SW projects>HURR Star Wars was never good! LOOK AT MY HYPERBOLE POSTING! IT ALL SUX! I AM COOOOL NOW
>>220992332No they also superimposed the actors onto the miniatures.
>>220991656If you ever want a fairly interesting tangent about film and special effects - look into the surprisingly complex and depthful history of trying to get fake lava to look good on film. For a long time the best approximation they had was oatmeal dyed red, with black food color painted on top.
>>220992479>As if any of Alec Guinness' old war movies are as spiritually or intellectually deep as SW is.Lawrence of Arabia has a 100x more depth than Star Wars you manchild faggot.
>>220992533No one who isn't Lucas seems to be able to make it right.
>>220992655how?
>>220992015So many minds are going to be broken after this lol
>>220992660Dude played backseat director for the rest of the OT specifically because no one got it like he did.
>>220992556It was always overrated
>sequeltrannies trying to gaslight others into thinking that the OT wasn't that good
>>220991614Sorry Ryan, but purely aiming to outwit your audience doesn't make for a competent production.
>>220990716>episode ivHahahha
>>220990716Gonna be interesting next year with the 50th anniversary release.Might work well. Three generations:— Old people who saw it in the cinema in 1977.— Middle people who have never seen it in a cinema.— Young people who have never seen it.>>220991442>It's supposed to be a throwback to old serials like Flash Gordon. It's supposed to be fun and trashy. Nobody (besides those with the mind of a child) claimed it was some kind of masterpiece. It *is* a masterpiece, but I'm not sure how much George Lucas knew what the hell he was doing. I suspect the break-down of the magic is something like:— 30% George was a genius. (But only a one-off genius.)— 20% John Williams (yeah, it really is that much)— 20% the other people involved. (George wasn't God in 1977 so they were able to cover for / overrule his huge blind spots, lapses in taste, incompetence, etc.)— 30% sheer luck
>ai
Typical automated-contrarianism from botsloppers like OP
>>220990716Oh, the prequeljeets are turning against the OT now. They're so fucking relentless and hilarious.
>>220990716Thank you. Somebody has to rip off this band-aid. The script, dialogue, and acting is terrible. BUT the set pieces, the costumes - Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, etc., the space ships and their pew pew pew, laser guns that looked like actual future military stuff, lightsabers, the special effects for their time, and especially the incredible score by John Williams catapulted a turd into something iconic. It's the most highly polished turd of all time. I mean, imagine that Star Wars would have had the usual spandex shit, and small white laser guns, Darth Vader as a costumed crocodile, synth music - but the same script and dialogue... it would have utterly bombed and would have been a silly little niche sci-fi that some nerds pretended to ironically like.
>>220990716It's the only good Star Wars movie, though granted it isn't a very good movie.
>>220992015the opening of ANH is like my favourite part of SW. I like it when it's a weird atmospheric movie about droids walking around in the desert, and some farm boy being depressed.
Seeing John Boyega for the first time in The Force Awakens was the shock of my life.I was so hyped for the sequel trilogy that I cagily avoided all marketing materials, all trailers, and all commercials. If I walked by a toy aisle at the store and caught a small glimpse of a vehicle or stormtrooper, I'd look away immediately. I wanted to go into the new era of Star Wars with an entirely open mind, as pure as an Amish virgin. On opening night I knew there was a brown-haired female protagonist (that much was hard to avoid, even though I shielded my eyes), but little else. I didn't even know which classic characters were returning. When Boyega first took off that helmet and revealed himself to the theater, I let out an audible gasp. My entire row of filmgoers looked at me like I was nuts, but I couldn't help myself. There before me was the most Simian creature I'd ever seen in a galaxy far, far away. An intergalactic gorilla with huge flaring nigger nostrils and big Nigerian chieftain lips.Oftentimes film studios will soften the blow by casting Billy Dee Williams or Will Smith... but not this time. This time you were forced to feast your eyes on a pure-blooded coal black silverback nigger, blown up forty feet high on an IMAX screen.I looked around, uncomprehendingly, as the rest of the crowd seemed to accept this monstrosity as a regular matter of course. Then it occurred to me that I was the only person who hadn't already seen months' worth of marketing materials.Little by little, they had been led to accept this by drips and drabs of commercials, trailers, and TV interviews. Their minds had been so softened that they were willing to stare unflinchingly, even giggle and smile at the niggershines, as MegaNigger (missing only a bone in his nose) besmirched the galaxy.Lots of people debate about the exact moment when Star Wars died. I contend it was when that minstrel-looking sweaty jigaboo removed his helmet and revealed his Lovecraftian face.
>>220993735the script is knowingly cheesy. It's not bad.Nothing with so many good quotable lines, such effective characterisation, and such genuine ability to swell the emotion of the audience is bad.See what I said about people being too dense to get SW, and *why* it's as good as it is?>oh, but if Vader's lines were less silly it would be a better movieIt wouldn't be. It would be more boring.
>>220992660>No one who isn't Lucas seems to be able to make it right. The prequels are terrible movies.
>>220994174opinions. Still stands evident that no one can beat him.Gareth Edwards is the best film maker they hired in Lucas' absence, and his movie was just boring. Cold, sterile, lacking in meaning.
>>220994002Darth Vader didn't have great lines. It was another stroke of luck that they got James Earl Jones to dub him. His voice made those shitty lines seem great. Just listen to the original.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ3LHiBFgXc
>>220994211"I find your lack of faith disturbing" is a great line.
>>220990716https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFMyMxMYDNkit was terrible until marcia lucas saved it, but even then there was only so much she could do
>>220994202>opinionsCommon consensus among adults with a fully formed prefrontal cortex. You don't know anything about george lucas or film making, this is just another dipshit console war for you.
>>220994395where's your iconic generation defining movie?
>>220990716There are thousands of images and posters of A New Hope online and instead of using any of them, you used an AI generated one? This thread is either ragebait or made by an absolute retard.

>>220994625Meh, it's funny, and Star Wars doesn't deserve respect.
