Don't voice actors on popular shows get paid a decent amount?
>popular shows
>>220995085You realize that ATHF has been off the air for like twenty years, right?
>>220995151The latest season was in 2023.
almost like you should go look for other jobs if your current one isn't working out anymore
The voice actor who did the Jigglin Hillbilly is worth 2 billions dollars.
>>220995085Number one in the hood G
>mfw voice actors get paid what they're worth
>>220995085master shake was on some disney show for a while which was always funny. the thundermans
>>220995085Not on adult swim shows.[as] ran on a shoestring budget.
>>220995085Yeah Im sure this is specifically because he didnt get huge checks for voice acting and definitely not Nikki Blomsky tier milking
>>220995196The guy who played Donald Trump in Home Alone 2 is worth even more!
>>220995213qrd on chubby cheek chink?
>>220995085You can replace a voice.
>DVDs >Reruns>VODs>Conventions>CameosYou're really telling me this nigger is so broke that he is homeless now?
The Simpsons cast aren't exactly poor. Just saying.
I'm going to need a rundown on how much he was paid and what he spent it on before I feel bad for him.
>>220995342considering none of the other cast is homeless, that should tell you enough
>>220995342its usually bad investments
>>220995280He was the only one in the main cast that decided not to get residuals, opting for a bigger up-front paycheck. And after he realized the show had legs and he wanted to renegotiate his contract, AS just waited him out until he caved since he never got any other gigs. The showrunners threw him a bone or two and let him write some episodes so he could get a writer's paycheck, but his lack of foresight and inability to find other work led to this.
"We started this business with money that Carey got from conventions and used a sewing machine I already had. I started sewing the plushies a year ago or so, I can't even remember how long. We only recently became an LLC because of hitting a certain amount through our business software, so had to go ahead and register with the state," wife Leah wrote."The money from this GoFundMe is really for keeping the lights on, internet, and food. I make maybe 20-30 dollars on each toy I make, if that. I know I need to keep the prices low to make sure that people can afford them. This isn't a great way to make money, this is really a work of love. If, however, I succeed at this and grow the business more, maybe it will become something great. In the meantime, I really would like to eat, have lights, and still be able to be online talking to everyone and advertising the shop. Every little bit helps. Thank you so so much!"She also added, "I work a regular job along with this. Carey is doing conventions and looking into disability for his heart failure, which we hear will take another year or longer."
>>220995085For the amount of work, absolutely. As a gig, it's incredibly flexible when it comes to scheduling, on a half way decent run show each voice actor can record their lines for multiple episodes in a single day so the actors effectively just work a few days a month. You can come in dressed however the fuck you want when recording. The only downside is that for most actors since they are extroverted generally, it can get lonely for them being alone in the booth and just getting bits and pieces of feedback through a voice.
>>220995085Iirc he doesn't get residuals from Aqua Teen. Adult Swim's in-house production company that made Aqua Teen, Williams Street, is based in Georgia and Georgia has less legal protections that guarantee actors get residuals from shows. I think he also had a stream of bad luck when a tree fell on his house, and he also has heart problems that prevent him from doing a lot of jobs.
Leah shared some of the hardships the couple has faced in an update in late May, explaining the two had been in a car accident earlier in the year. She was experiencing issues with her health in addition to Means' continued recovery from a 2022 hospitalization that revealed congestive heart failure."Every time I think that things are looking up, something else happens to make it impossible. Now I have a new car payment and insurance, when before I did not. The tree falling on the apartment years ago, caused me to have to move and pay twice as much rent. Carey's heart failure happened, and now he can't go work in a dishpit, so that is out of the question. He is trying to get disability, but that may not even happen," she wrote."In the meantime, I have gone back to work, and am still sewing. I am really tired though and cannot sleep when I need to, so I just don't. I am really busy, I work all the time, and I am about to lose everything anyway," she candidly shared.
>>220995394I'm pretty sure he was genuinely a homeless bum they grabbed off the streets, and he wasn't exactly a stable guy to start with. Dana Snyder, the guy who did shake, has done a lot of other things, mostly other adult swim shows, but also as day-player man in other shows, so he didn't have all his eggs in one basket.
Adult Swim shows didn’t pay for shit back in the day. This idiot should’ve gotten other work
dude's gotta have some other issues like being weird or having a drug habit because it would take minimal effort for him to get a bag doing cameos and cons
>>220995752its not normal for anyone to be homeless so yes obviously hes got some bad shit going on which is normally drugs until proven otherwise
does anybody have the story about how badly Brak got fucked over?
>>220995791being homeless is not only completely normal, but actually the preferred way of life now unc. you must be one boomer ahhh
>>220995444>looking into disability for his heart failuresorry bro we have orcs to take care of vote Democrat
>15 minute glorified web cartoon with no syndication
>>220995213he was in blackbery
>>220995444>Blacks going on welfare Very sad, many such cases
>>220995085Adult Swim shows aren't known commercially
Adult Swim VAs always were paid in peanuts and a lot of the popularity comes from the internet and after the show is over, I wonder if he gets royalties or if he got one off payments, my guess is the latter>>220995170dont be silly that was a 5 ep revival and it was years after the show ended
>>220995151It hasn't, actually. Carey Means has been fairly getting consistent work out of the show for 20 years. 12 seasons and 2 movies. And 1 video game. But somehow he has no money. What did he spend it on? Did he buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of ice and then leave it out in the sun to melt? Was he just constantly buying at the top of the bitcoin market and selling at the bottom, for fun? We'll never know.
>>220995085Maybe he should have gotten another job after the show ended. VA royalties pay almost nothing. I remember a VA years ago posted their amazing 30 cent monthly check from a gig they did.
>popular showsATHF is that shit your stoner friend watches at 3am, hardly a smash hit
Keep in mind that "homeless" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. The UCLA professor who claimed he was homeless due to low pay turned out to be angry he couldn't get a three bedroom apartment in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Los Angeles so he was rooming with a friend further out. There are plenty of low cost places to live in Atlanta and the area around it but he probably wants a house in Buckhead or a rooftop loft in Midtown. He probably thinks living with friends in Vine City is beneath someone who has been on tv.
>>220996215yeah its not really a hit its a cult legend that has tremendous reviews but surely there wasnt that much money made off it
the drummer who recorded the original Amen Break died poor without seeing a penny off it
>Sadly, the Means’ situation is not a unique one: As Cartoon Brew chronicled in 2018, C. Martin Croker of Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force died in debt at the age of 54. Additionally, Andy Merrill, the voice of Brak on Space Ghost: Coast-to-Coast, was working as an Amazon driver just two years ago (though he revealed later that year that he was working on a Brak comeback project, and has since done voice work for Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake and Kiff).Do these people really think you can work for a couple of years and then be set for life? Lots of people do Amazon delivery. It's shit work but it's not working in coal mines. I'm sure voice acting has its moments of annoyance but in the big scheme of things, it's not early retirement money. You have to do something else.
>>220995263Go ask >>>/v/.
>>220996307how long ago was that, its a pretty basic beat that comes to most naturally
>>220995085anyone else from the timelinenwhere this guy died a few years ago? wtf?
>>220995085pretty grim if true
>>220995085Not if you spend it all on drugs and hookers you don't
>>220995085thats like asking why athletes have money issues. wealth is no match for non-existent or bad financial literacy.
>>220996890I only saw a post about resurrecting him from the dead on /co/ i think
>>220995263He was a youtuber who did video game comedy. Gets a VA job, immediately complains that white actors shouldn't be given "Asian" roles in animus and video games anymore.
>>220997139And he got scared off twitter after people pointed out the hypocrisy of him voicing non-Asians.
I know Carey. This is his 15th gofundme and they are started/run by his wife. I'm glad people love him this much and love Frylock this much but 20k+ when there are other people in much worse situations is really shit.
>>220997331Isn't he married to a white chick too?
>>220995263He's an asswipe, and he's criticized non-asians getting asian roles while simultaneously accepting non-asian roles without a moment of introspection. also his gf or wife is asexual, which is funny and likely just means she's disinterested in him specifically, and it's little wonder why. he's a total fag.
>>220995213It doesn't even look like he's that fat, but has the biggest fattest head I have ever seen. How is that even possible.
>>220995085>Endless money for the military, Israel, and data centers.>Tiny amount of government services - 99% of you would end up dead or under a bridge if you had some bad luck. LMAO. Why aren't burgerfaggots rioting in the streets?
He spent all his money on those kool aid pineapples they've been selling.
>>220997958James left behind millions of dollars for his family and they had no financial issues, his family just wanted to fleece even more money out of his fans.
>>220995237That man is worthless in my eyes.
>>220995085Black guys suck with money
>>220995085>have a single job for a few years>I should not have to work the rest of my life God I wish that was me. We were told automation would have us all living on easy street by now.
>>220996154I saw them (him & Dana Snyder & the other guy) at a con panel ~12 years ago. Carey was drinking a 40 out of a paper bag during the panel (which was at maybe 2:30 pm). Little strange.
>>220995444I had a heart attack last June and just got medically approved for disability in March. Shit sucks. Still waiting on the non-medical part which I am honestly terrified of them denying because I still try my best to work even if I call in all the time.
>>220998306
>>220998201He's been banned from several cons and has been kicked out due to bad behavior.
>>220995085Current minimum SAG-ACTRA rate for Animation Voice Acting per film or segment of film more than 10 minutes in length is $1248 per day. It was around $1k in 2022. The industry books 4 hour minimum blocks to record, and it usually takes that time to track a 30 minute episode, with multiple/alt takes, director feedback etc. Video games pay even less. So, yeah, some VOAs make about $600 per episode,] ... with 10% going to agent, also to biz manager, taxes, union fees, parking, etc… grim math.
