Why does JJ Abrams get so much hate? He's a good director
>>220995095because he fucked up both star trek and star wars, every nerd fucking hates him
>>220995095He pissed off Star Wars and Star Trek fans by reducing both IPs to perfectly serviceable slop (with the exception of Rise of Skywalker, which was borderline unwatchable)
He has body odor
>>220995140The Abrams Star Trek movies were an improvement from the TNG movies
>>220995095>He's a good directorHe really isn't. He's the brett ratner of the 2000's. He's the guy that a studio hires because they know he's more than happy to be a yes man and deliver a product that looks slick and moves fast enough to keep an audience entertained for the duration of the movie, but ultimately falls apart under any kind of scrutiny. I mean his biggest trademark is just LENS FLARE!
>>220995095what does the J stand for again?
>>220995199The first one was genuinely really solid, the sequel though was pretty retarded (especially with its "twist" that doesn't actually make sense in the scope of the film itself and is pure fan service)
has he made anything since ROTS or did that get him soft-blacklisted?
He's not a good director though. He's had maybe 1 or 2 ok films.
>>220995233What about Beyond, the third Abrams trilogy movie
>>220995266You just reminded me of its existence despite the fact I definitely saw it in theaters when it came out, which says something
>>220995140>borderline unwatchableBorderline? It felt like watching somebody else's fever dream. The fact that a placeholder line from an unfinished script "Somehow, Palpatine returned." isn't even the worst of it.
>>220995311*made it into the movie
>>220995199>improvement from the TNG moviesCold dog vomit is an improvement from the TNG movies. '09 is an okay reboot, I kind of hate how they start blowing up planets out of the gate, but the audience was willing to give it some rope since it was re-establishing a new cast into established characters, but when into darkness came out it just retroactively removes that good will because it just wants to be a dumb ugly action movie that doesn't make sense. The third movie was pretty OK, but I've seen every star trek movies in the theater since Star Trek V (my dad took me to the theater, and we watched a double-feature of Final Frontier AND Ghostbusters 2). And after into darkness I checked out for Beyond because Out of all those years there were exactly TWO movies of those I enjoyed (undiscovered country is fucking GOAT, and I liked '09 in the theaters). Which is a shame because I thought Beyond was a mostly solid movie that managed to do a lot of damage control. Still a bit too much stupid action for me, but that's just the bitter pill I've already swallowed.
>>220995311>placeholder line from an unfinished scriptOh no anon, there was an interview with Isaacs a few months ago where he said that was actually a pickup shot they did as a re-shoot. Reshoots don't always mean a movie is bad, most big movies do it, because sometimes when you're editing the movie you realize the scene where some important plot information was explained got cut, or you re-order some scenes so now you need to create a new shot to fix a problem. Though honestly, I can imagine the poor son of a bitch who had to edit the rise of the revenge of the last returning skywalker. And you want to know something REALLY wild, they gave Abrahms and Johnson FINAL CUT on their star wars movies.
>>220995140Perfectly serviceable is too kind. I'm tired of that meme. These are trash flicks.
>>220995233The first one doesn't hold up, I liked it a lot at the time but the pacing and some good casting paper over the script being a mess and back then I was just happy to see the franchise >re-energized after it had limped to the end with ENT and Nemesis
>>220995095Not really. His entire career has been doing "homages" (ie just stealing and remaking other people's material with a new skin on it).
Both his Treks are good. He's a good director for summer flicks. But he's a terrible writer and he's an egotistical retard for not realizing that he needs to stay away from writing his movies.
>>220995129this. so much this.
>>220995095>He's a good directorI agree. But he's also a bad writer and he insists on writing.
>>220995095I'll always be thankful to him for Cloverfield, my most sacred theater experience
>>220995095Good Director but the scripts are always fucking terrible!!!FACT!!!
>>220995095Im gonna fuck his daughter.
>>220996671This. He's a good imitator with no distinct voice of his own.
