I agree with the first thing he says. As a published novelist, the whole point of what I do is self-expression. I started writing in high school as an outlet and I have over a dozen novels written, but most of them aren't "marketable" so I've kept all but two to myself. I've got even more half finished stories and tons of short stories and novellas. I write for the enjoyment and because it helps my subconscious process things, seemingly. Humans sometimes have an easier time dealing with things through story and parable than directly confronting them, which is why the novel can be so powerful. It can be a way someone else can process something mentally and then it can also be a way for you to process it along with them.

That said, AI is cool. There's already plenty of slop completely written by humans, but it's just entertainment. My only worry is that, already, I can talk with my college students that don't understand why a perfectly polished novel from 20 years ago is any "better written" than a fanfic. I try to explain pacing and measured sentences and deliberate word choices and they don't care. I worry that people will lose the ability to understand the finer things in writing. Rebecca Yarros is the J. K. Rowling of 20 years ago. Brandon Sanderson is the Robert Jordan of 20 years ago. Even the mediocre genre authors of yesteryear are titans of prose compared to what is published today.

If you reduce everything to being a story which can be summarized, instead of a human attempt at relaying something deeper than the words themselves will allow, as all agents and (marketers) will do, there is nothing wrong with AI. And thats the only way people know how to process things now: as entertainment. There is zero depth, they passively read the words without reflecting anything against themselves. They've never been taught how to read "difficult" content or why so they don't actually know how.

Let me clarify more. What I think Kane is missing and what you're missing as well is that there are different phases in any creative process:
>Exploration/research
>Ideation
>Judgement
>Craftsmanship
Roughly in that order, but being able to go backwards, with refinement happening at each stage, and creative decision making possible at each stage, but also procedural tasks.
Hacks don't know or don't think about this process and stumble around in the dark, many get stuck on different phases and consider the others a mystery. I think people on the extremes of the AI argument fall into these camps, AI people tending not to care or know about the creativity possible in each step and anti-AI not knowing or caring about the procedural.
What you are basically saying is that you should do minimal exploration and ideation for yourself, skip the first judgement phase, skip craftsmanship, and skip back to judgement.
But the thing is that exploration is living life, collecting influences, learning more about similar works. Also more tangible things an AI can help with in the exploration phase, for movies this is the work of researching periods, people, etc., AI, however doing that helps you with all the later phases. No artist would want to skip that either.
No artist would want to skip ideation either. That's where most of your original artistic intent comes from.
There are procedural parts of craftsmanship too, but also many artistic choices can be made. I think you should be able to paint out wires, but not skip crafting your main subject. I think having that physical connection to your art is one of the great joys of creating, just like all the other creative parts of every stage.
But if you don't want to be an artist, that's fine. But I think sweeping statements saying to skip parts of the process are as damaging as excluding any AI tools entirely.

You didn't just prompt something in your movie randomly, you generated a lot of things and picked what you need for your project. An artist works with whatever tools they need to get the job done.
You shouldn't use AI as your main tool as all you will make will be trash, but to completely dismiss it as unusable makes you a fucking retard.
