28yrs later (part 1) had so much potential. A zombie apocalypse with evolving subspecies of infected and nature reclaiming the UK is objectively an interesting and original concept. The first 1/3rd of the movie is also great with spike's dad teaching him to become a man, the alpha zombies that ominously stalk instead of charging in, and the foreshadowed presence of other humans, before the spike saving his mum plot takes over and ruins the rest of the film. I really fucked with the alphas getting smarter and more cunning as they evolved. They could have set up so many cool plot lines like an alpha raid on their village, setting up traps for humans, coordinating ever more complex zombie movements with an alpha to lead the pack, etc... but like the other anon said, the first movie just became this indie adventure walk through the fields to save mom with an unsatisfying conclusion. They ditched the zombie horde idea completely
