Are there any actual cases of somebody having a discernible slow burn of popularity increase? Seems like everybody is overnight sensations. I mean shit, that's why the term "breakout role" exists.

He was virtually unknown to most people prior, despite being the only decent actor in Green Mile and Iron Man 2, then he won an Academy Award a decade ago and I guarantee the year after nobody knew him and still don't.
So what does it even mean to actually be overrated? Winning an award after 20 years of character acting and having a brief window of mainstream popularity? That's it?
