That's kind of the point though. Reboots like this don't exist for nostalgia. It's a franchise that was once successful, and when it was successful it was an original IP building from the ground up. It proved it could do that once, so why not try again? The fact that it's a recognized IP is irrelevant (they even cut He-Man from the title). Nostalgia isn't the angle here, they WANT the fans to be too old to care so that they can wash the slate clean and start fresh with a new, young audience.

There is a whole generation of people that don't understand that all of the comics that these Marvel movies are based on didn't have MCU style quips in them. They were all taken seriously. The thing about He-Man versus say TMNT is that Nickelodeon bought it and makes a new Turtles show or movie every five years or so to go along with the refreshed toy line. The most recent He-Man related thing before this movie was the Kevin Smith Netflix cartoon and that didn’t go over well.

He-Man is just too old of an IP, I grew up through the 90s and never knew about him at all. My first and really only introduction to it was through Robot Chicken and Family Guy, and I've never really heard about it outside those shows.
