He-Man bombed lmao.Fuck you.
>>221005649Why did they use He/Him instead of He/Man?
>>221005649Why did they think this would be a success? Literally nobody gives a shit about this gen X slop and that generations children are already old enough to have their own kids.
you don't learn your lesson do yadon't shit on the audience that actually loves your franchiseand don't market to the cocksuckers who have no interest in your franchiseYOU DON'T. FUCKING. LEARN.
Even though his face is never on screen Jered Leto being in the main cast absolutely stopped atl east 1 million people form buying tickets who otherwise would have.
>>221005649Who the fuck cares about He-Man?
>>221005692>don't shit on the audience that actually loves your franchiseWhat audience?
It's not even coming out in theaters in some european countries but also that's what you get sprinkling box office poison on your movie with Jared Leto
>>221005726I really don't get why he keeps getting cast in big movies, this and Tron Ares both flopped. He must have dirt on the jew producers who make these movies.
>>221005898I think he might be an intentional tax write off function
>>221005649Jared Kino is too powerful (as is Skeletor) and creates a black hole that obliterates everything around him.
>>221005692Such a braindead take. Im not 7000 so I don’t have any affinity for he-man, but if you can’t call this shit faithful what is?The reason this flopped is the reason all movies flop - the target audience was at home playing Star Wars Battlefront or whatever nonsense grown men with children play.
>>221005649>niche IP from 40 years ago is given a massive budget >bombsSurprising? It's like making a Centurions or M.A.S.K. movie.
>>221005649lmao all the Xitter bugmen thought this was going to "kill woke" forever and it ended up bombing harder than Star Wars get fucked chuddies
>>221005898most likely his agent booked him for a bunch of projects before his career combusted, and it would have been too expensive to buy him out of his contract.
>>221005649I mean, it's massively out-dated
>>221005891>sprinkling box office poison on your movie with Jared Letoit also had Idris Elba and Alison Brie lolit was like they did everything they could to align the universe against it.
>>221005649>Took away He Man's Iron Cross insigniano wonder it flopped they nerfed the Aryan Chad God so his jewish sounding skeleton nemesis would win.But in all serious He-Man was always fucking gay.I mean look at these He-Man toys from the 80s.No shit kids turned out faggy as fuck from it.
>>221005670Millineal female blue hair writers can't into comedy
>>221005687People still like He-Man and they would have shown their kids if they had made this right, but they didnt, oh well. We still have the old cartoon and the 80's movies they watch.
>>221005692There is no audience. This cartoon was big in 1984 and fell off by 1986. The only people who might be interested in it are boys who grew up exactly in that period. No child is going to want to watch a movie based on a toy or a cartoon that was last popular 40 years ago. There was never going to be an audience for that movie, especially not with a budget of 180 million. Whoever greenlit it is absolutely insane.
>>221005692Basically this. They made it woke, so me no watchie
>>221006039and pants on Teela and Evil-lynnAnd Killing off Randorand a barely muscled boy playing He-Manyeah, i knew this would bomb from the 1st looks we got back when. They never learn.
Cringer's voice sounding like a normal person is ridiculous
>>221005649I saw it. I'm mostly familiar with MOTU through the early 00s cartoon and have seen some other stuff here and there, but pretty casual This was the issue to me:>make a movie only to die hard fans of the franchise would be interested in (specifically the 80s cartoon)>spend the movie actively undercutting every moment with self-mockery By the 3rd Fisto joke the audience stopped laughing - and then they did 10 more Fisto jokes. Its a shame because the set design and costumes are impressive, the score is good, and some of the casting is solid. The elements were there to make something really fun, earnest, and authentic.
>>221006083>People still like He-Man and they would have shown their kids if they had made this rightYou're delusional, anon. This was never going to be another Barbie. He-Man only had a small staying power on the internet age thanks to memes and the character being claimed by LGBT culture.
>>221006153>And Killing off RandorWhy would anyone care about this? His parents are fucking boring. They’re just royals who go “oh I wish that Adam was more brave”
>>221006153>Killing off RandorI'm only annoyed about that because I hate seeing Rome actors get wasted on these meaningless bit parts. Fucking swear to God, him, Ciaran, and Tobias just keep getting brought in for such weird minor roles and I'm sure they all love the easy paychecks but holy shit, you've got the talent on the set, give them fucking anything to do.
>>221005649It looks like a Thor rip-off that was made with AI
>>221006594>Why are 60+ year old actors not getting larger parts Yeah it’s a fucking mystery why old men play old men parts
>>221005670>>221006061because that makes no sense in context of the movie, retards
>>221005994It must suck being a deranged far leftist subhuman. Why haven't you killed yourself yet?
>>221006116Theres a scene where Adam is giving a pep talk about teamwork to a group of Eternians and he says, "a team isn't just one man (points to man), or woman (points to a woman), or ... person (points to a humanoid reptile)," it isn't woke, it was released by fucking Amazon studios
>>221006660you first, so in about 3 years at the rate your life is going
>>221006627>old men parts and minor parts are the same thingsHaven't been on /tv/ in like six months, are you the average retard or just trying a little harder?
I'm surprised Cringer wasn't voiced by Chris Rock
>>221005649It's an ancient IP that has basically no cultural relevance to anyone that isn't close to 50 years old and I doubt even people in that age group are particularly nostalgic for He-Man
>>221006360>By the 3rd Fisto joke the audience stopped laughing - and then they did 10 more Fisto jokes.Yup, they can't into humor. At all. Whomever wrote this is a moron. Heck they even had Fisto say to Ram Man, "And Ram Man, Give em HEAD!" and they were both like "on, no no". Give em head, in a kids movie. Come the fuck on man. To include some off color humor like that and not do the He/Man thing on his deas but do He/Him, that right there shows they lack any comedic insight.
>>221005649Good. I dont care if it was actually woke or not. I want an overcorrection. I want shit to crash and burn at the slightest hint of woke faggotry. I want the whole fucking industry to burn
>>221005649Releasing alongside Obsession and Backrooms, while Michael was still in theatres was a bad decision, but honestly I didn't see this movie ever doing well. The novelty of movies based on old toys has long worn off, and I don't think He-Man ever had as big a fanbase as say Transformers or G.I. Joe.
>>221006613This. Way too many jokes. Was like watching a pardoy. No pause between the jokes. Every "serious" scene is ruined by forced silliness.. Most of the comedy is about Adam being stupid, clumsy and awkward.
>>221006758>I want the whole fucking industry to burn>Obsession and Backrooms are massive hitsYou might want to sit down to wait for that.
>>221006761No one expected Obsession to be such a big hit. Not even the people who made the movie. The movie has good legs thanks to word of mouth and everyone talking about it. I think a lot of people, both girls and guys, can "relate" to the story.
>>221006360>undercutting every moment with self-mockeryJesus christ, this again ?I don't get it, why every fucking movies do this shit ?
>>221006809Because they want to hold on to the rights for kino IPs but are convinced (incorrectly) that people want them to be woke, so all the references to the classic series have to be accompanied by a "and that was stupid".
>>221006083The smart move would have been to make he man TV shows and games, merch, maybe a LEGO heman game or whatever. See if there's any interest with children, and then make the live action movie. Then they can count on the kids dragging the parents to it instead of visa versa. But of course there's no competency left in the world.
>>221006706They’re the same thing. Once you reach a certain age 9/10 actors don’t get to do leading roles anymore because Hollywood doesn’t fucking write major roles for old people. That’s why grandpa action shlock movies are so hilarious because every action scene needs a stunt double it’s low budget shit coasting on name recognition
i'm older than most of this site and the only thing i remember about he-man is the 4 non blondes editwhy was this even made
>>221005649He-Bombed
>>221006640Another comically retarded individual. Add them to the pile.
>>221005692only retards are fans of he man
I hope that woke pronoun joke in the trailers was worth it, you Hollywood retards.
>>221006809Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy really ruined hollywood. I enjoyed both these movies, but it didn't mean I wanted every single movie to do this moving forward. Quips and jokes and plucky idiots. It's been copied left and right. No one makes a movie with their own sensibilities or tone, they all have to copy this. No sincerity, no reflection for characters, gotta have jokes.I really think it's because of kids and emotionally stunted people. Look at a movie like the Lion King. When Mufasa dies its sad, it lingers on it, the reality is there and it hurts. Then Scar shows up, and he offers a solution to Simba, to run away, only to immediately try to kill him. The movie lingers in the empty a little longer before hard line telling jokes. The comedic relief characters show up, but it had plenty of room to breathe from what happened. Now, they'll never let a serious moment even happen in a kids movie. And if they do there has to be a joke right after. And these live action big budget films are thought with kids in mind. Can't let the feeling and emotion get to you. Laugh it off, fast.
They made it pozzed, what did you expect?
>>221005649How could this be? It's such a relevant and popular IP with absolute nothing stupid or goofy about it. Why would people not flock to the theaters?
So no one cares about a toy commerical for 5 year olds from 40 years ago that faggots hijacked from day one and tried to claim was edgy gay commentary? Retards are in charge of literally everything now apparently.
>endless marvel/reddit/"we can't take anything seriously so we'll just add quips" humorGlad it flopped.
>>221005898He probably just pays his way into the role.
>>221005886Males age 5-13. Otherwise known as the audience that the lesbian mafia that runs the entertainment industry hates.
>>221007107No we haven't. NYC is a fucking shithole. I don't want or need any of that ahit because soccer is for brown skinned third worlders and I don't need loser strangers watching my kids because I'm not a poor degenerate. >t. Jersey Shore Chad
>>221005649LMAO This is too good, you'd think this more faithful take on the franchise was going to get people who are LORE LORE LORE. Nah woke thinks it chud coded, chud think its "lefty"(woke) coded. No winning, best move is not to play.
>>221007107>And universal childcare benefits everyone, espwcially untaxed foreignersThis is why leftists are fifth column enemies of working class.
>>221007410Yes the working class suffer enormously when they don’t have to pay thousands of dollars on childcare and can get it for free now
>>221005649My favorite part was when Jared Leto yelled "IT'S SKELLIN' TIME" and he skeletorred all over the place.
>>221007569How is the state taking my money and using it to stimulate demand for childcare, forcing prices up etc helping me?The same thing happens with education and healthcare yet you retards are too economically illiterate to understand what is happening.
>>221005692How? The two first trailers were goodI don't get people getting mad at black at atms
Avengers Doomsday is next it will make money but it will make less than other Avengers the Boomer and Millennial franchises are no longer of interest to anyone those old franchises from the last century are no longer relevant
>>221007811The new Spiderman movie is coming next month. Will easily make 1 billion.
>>221006360I really enjoyed the movie, but a lot of the Marvel tier humor way way more miss than it was hit and easily its worst aspect.
It's hilarious AND sad having to read so many of your stupid chucklefuck retard takes. You aren't into He-Man therefore you state there is NO audience (arguing like a child) or you rant and rage like a fucking retard desperately trying to convey your childish take. The IP is 40 years old and "dead" (again, no it is not, there was a popular 2000's cartoon, and toys have been on the shelves continuously for like the past decade or more)What IP is Backrooms and Obsession based on, dumbasses? Its the same fucking thing. A "dead" IP is just the same as NO IP. You wanna talk about Dead IP's, at one time it was the Smurfs and they made BANK bringing that back.ALL they have to do is make a movie LOOK enticing. Nobody fucking cares about your dumb retard takes about whatever YOU think the state of an IP is. And yes, bragging to the media about your feminist takes and attacking "toxic masculinity" simply ISN'T going to make your film look enticing to the vast majority of moviegoers. Putting "they/them" in your fucking trailer isn't going to win people over. Simple as.God, so many of you were born into the online world and have NO clue how to debate, so you dig deep into your own stupid little bubbles and think the world works the way YOU imagine it does. Just fucking go outside and learn to talk to real people, so that you sound less retarded trying to talk online.He-Man let everyone know from the start it was going to be full of feminist ideals and modern bullshit takes. They broadcast their virtue signalling, and the audience didn't like their "virtues". Simple. Fucking. As.
>>221005649never ever heard of this movie before
I think I would have a more fun time with scary movie, personally. I do know some people love the original films
>>221005994This WAS woke.
>>221005649Goddamn i enjoyed it
>>221005649I didn't know there was a He-Man film until five days ago. The marketing for this has been ass.
>>221005649bro who even watches capeshit anymore my god last capeshit i watched was like 2017.Dont even remember which one because theyre all so unmemorable and boring
>>221005649It's woke trash
red letter boys loved it
>>221005649They can't market it as not being woke slop or the people making it will get cancelled and blacklisted from Hollywood. It will be a hit on streaming though.
>>221006360>>221006735>>221006809To be fair, I thought it was pretty tame. It did make me groan every time they did it, but it wasn't constant or as much as the first anon implies. Way better than a Marvel movie or any similar slop.
>>221007886>another spider man movielol these Hollywood jew niggers are just milking the fuck out of ts
>>221005692The movie looks okish but nobody gives a fuck about Heman anymore, if ever in the last 30 years.Kevin Smith fucked the ip beyond repair a couple of years ago too.
>>221005649>getting beaten by OBSESSION's fourth weekend
>>221005898Dudes agent must be god himself since hes gotten like 7 movies after every one of them bombed. Every movie he has been in in the last decade has bombed except one.
>>221008387It isn't, but you brainworms think everything is woke.
>>221007956Lmao look at this man child crybaby crashing out over he man lmfao get a job loser
>>221008624>The movie looks okish but nobody gives a fuck about Heman anymoreFrom what I hear the movie isn't woke and actually not bad. So I predict over time it will become a cult streaming hit and eventually get a sequel. And THAT is when the usual suspects will show up and pozz it to hell and back. It will be so pozzed you just might get aids from watching it.
>>221005649Well at least the chuds were taught a valuable lesson about masculinity, and that's more important than money
>>221005649Can't even trot out the usual cope. Movie wasn't woke. Movie was marketed heavily. Movie was really good and reviewed well. And it still bombed. Proving once again that politics and quality have little to do with the success of these things. It's all driven by nostalgia. And for something as old and irrelevant as this, there is very little.
>>221005670They really fucked up that joke, and then announced said fuck up in a global trailer. Embarrassing
>>221005692The irony is that it doesn't shit on the audience. Most of the grifters like and praise the movie, but one single pronoun joke completely tainted the movie for half of the potential audience.
>>221008752The movie won't make its money back, if they try to do a sequel, they won't, it will be about She-Ra, she is in the postcredits o algo.
Everyone is tired of the quip fest marvel formula faggot shit. Snyder was ahead of his time. Darker is and serious is 100x better. These boomers keep trying to cater to kids or teens.
>>221008387Other actors used the same phrasing. It's not, and who ever was responsible for giving the actors talking points needs to be fired.
>>221008814My kids watch the og cartoon on dvd's and love them. They didnt want to see this. Quite telling.
>>221008867Im glad you believe this because no one else does. They fucked up many things here, the 5+ threads on this site alone point them out repeatedly.
>>221008944>The movie won't make its money backI understand this. But the streaming numbers will be high once it gets on streaming. Sort of like how Breaking Bad popularity went through the roof once it became available on Netflix. The suits and the HR karens that they cater to will see the surge in popularity and greenlight a sequel. And you are right. They will totally screw it up and feature girlboss She-Ra instead and it will suck and have none of the feel of why the first movie eventually became popular in the first place.
>>221006083>would have shown their kids.Their kids are in their 20's Anon. Some 50 something is jot sitting their 20-30 year old kiss He-Man or even their grandkids if they had any(they don't)
>>221009027You'll bring out the same old lame excuses the next time Gen X nostlagia slop flops. And the next time. But not after that because by that point Hollywood will finally get the point. No one wants Voltron or Thundercats or He-Man or Transformers or GI Joe or Jem or She-Ra or Popples or Care Bears or Garbage Pail Kids. Or Star Wars. It's over.Nostalgia has an expiration date and that shit is so expired it's attracting flies.
>>221005898He has a cult of roasties he passes around.
>>221005649>make slop that costed 100 million to make>it flops>A24 makes a simple film for 15 million dollars >its succeeds, you seethe It’s really that simple. Stop inflating these films budgets when you know they aren’t going to generate a lot of interest
>>221009027>at 14:15 a woman talks down to a man and isn't reprimanded!>at 34:53 a minority kills a white bad guy>at 1:04:27 a woman suggests an ideaI'm sure those threads are riveting
>>221005994>Multiple blackwashed characters>>Heavily clothed women when the '80s kids cartoon was more revealing>>>Director repeatedly mentions how the film goes against toxic masculinity This is a movie for chuds?
>>221009389The current hollywood humiliation ritual is that if your franchise includes a man or masculinity as a concept in any way, you need to go on Colbert and Oprah and talk about how you're actually disassembling masculinity for the betterment of womankind.
>>221006682>it isn't woke, it was released by fucking Amazon studiosAre you retarded? Amazon produces nothing but pozzed garbage lol
I think by now even normies are catching onto the fact that most reboots of nerd culture IPs are Trojan Horses for feminism. That's exactly what happened with the Netflix He-Man and Scott Pilgrim. Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, LotR, God of War. The male protagonist dies and is replaced by a cooler, better female. Even when that isn't the case, the general public has been burned too many times. They learned to just not bother with modern reboots.
>>221009198yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Anyone who watched he man as a kid either already has a kid or is never having a kid. Kind of a weird time to make a he man movie.
>>221009437It works until it doesn't. Doubling and tripling down on it hasn't helped either.
>>221005649> old-ass IP only hardcore fans would watch> somehow still include a "He-Man on Earth" section nobody asked for - for no fucking reason> He-Man is played by a fucking twink> Jared LetoAnd then people are wondering why it bombed?
it's over.
>>221009524>200 million dollars for a 40-year-old toy commercialBullshit.
>>221005973>if you can't call this shit faithful what is?Yeah, watching the trailer where it's Adam and Hussein working in Human Resources in the real world, that was my favourite part of the old cartoon.
>>221009547The movie is 90% CGI, of course it was expensive.
Was Fisto in the movie?
>>221005726The Jared Leto cancel meme seems gay to me. It genuinely seems fueled by gay redditors and blue hairs finally finding a someone they can freely hate on with no cultural repercussions or getting called out on.
>>221005670Because man is a verb, not a pronoun
>kids movie for non-existent kids>non-stop fisting jokeswhat did they mean by this.
>>221009496That's kind of the point though. Reboots like this don't exist for nostalgia. It's a franchise that was once successful, and when it was successful it was an original IP building from the ground up. It proved it could do that once, so why not try again? The fact that it's a recognized IP is irrelevant (they even cut He-Man from the title). Nostalgia isn't the angle here, they WANT the fans to be too old to care so that they can wash the slate clean and start fresh with a new, young audience.>then why not just make a new IPTwo reasons:Creating a new IP from the ground up means paying a lot of expensive people whose job it is to create new marketable properties. Taking an existing one skips that step and all the cost and iteration involvedAnd the IP is already proven. It found success from nothing once before, so it's reasonable to assume that with a sufficiently clean slate it could do so again. The critical failure was basically taking a toy commercial built from the ground up to be a power fantasy for 7 year old boys and trying to make it appeal to women in their 30s. A sort of reverse precure.
>>221005649Not surprised. Gen X males stopped caring about their childhood toys and embraced Facebook political ragebait long ago. You're no longer the slackers with plaid shirts and skateboards listening to Pearl Jam. You're just cranky old men. Congrats.
Looked stupid, and I don't care about the comedy bend, commercials looked like dumb marvel comedy, and no thanks. Also jared leto
>>221009585>Was Fisto in the movie?>>221006360>By the 3rd Fisto joke the audience stopped laughing - and then they did 10 more Fisto jokes.

>>221005649Shame. i liked it
>>221005994>kill woke forever>is woke>flopsWorking as intended?
>>221006116Any woke stuff in it was actually there as a joke. The HR lady, the He/Him, the limp-wristed co-workers and faggy office politics. It's all pointed at and shown as shit that is sapping Adam's manliness away and he learns to get away from it in the end.

>>221005649This movie was always a bad idea. The only reason it was greenlit was because the stupid Barbie movie made a billion dollars and some fuckwit executive said "OOH women are dumb and undiscerning enough to eat any old slop that caters to them, I bet it'll work on men as well!"
>>221009914Yeah, so it can make even less money. Good idea!
>>221010006The type of people who whine about woke shit aren't intelligent enough to recognize when something is a joke. They just see their boogeyman, get triggered, and sperg out.
>>221005649>Being openly hostile and chasing off your target audience is a bad ideaShocking
>>221009699The failure is that the fanbase has been burned too many times and now they have ZERO faith in any kind of remake not being complete woke dogshit. Its its literally a case of once bitten, twice shy. And its one thousand percent Hollywood's own fault for making it this way. So even if they get it right the target audience has no faith in it and stays away.So even if its 95 percent based if the current audience gets even the slightest whiff of woke pozzery they are out. They are having the exact same problem on the other side in the videogame industry with the new James Bond game. All trust and faith has been burned to the ground.
>>221010194>fanbaselol. If literally every single person who considers themsevles a "He-Man" fan saw the film it would still be a massive flop. How many He-Man fans do you figure there even are in 2026? A few thousand maybe?
>>221010163that's actually accuratepeople who make it their mission to be occupied with 'woke' are humorless, in fact they've strived to make humor a crime ala donglegate
They need to stop doing reboots anyway, the only reason they do that shit in the first place is because they're evil, and everyone knows evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.

He-Man isn't even relevant enough to keep an animated series or a toyline going, how did they expect to get people to leave the house to go watch a 2 hour plus movie about it?
>>221005649Funny how people are destroying this movie like it was some Star Wars tier IP when it's just a cute toyline/cartoon from the early 80s that only 50 year olds cared about, it's like punching a puppy
>>221010557> just some dudes in the garage making a movie, not some multi-billion dollar Corporation selling your Nostalgia back to you.
>>221010557The same people that whine about Star Wars movies also whine about He-Man. Gen X manbabies are the unhappiest demographic on the planet and it's foolish to ever try catering to them.
>>221010239The "fanbase" I am referring to is the nerd fanbase in general. As far as the He-Man fanbase that was already murdered with all of those woke Netflix revivals.
>>221010608that's a nice way of saying trying to fleece them through nostalgia
>>221010606>not some multi-billion dollar CorporationAll of Hollywood is that, tho
I never liked He-Man. I always thought the characters looked stupid.
>>221010648Exactly, so who gives a fuck about roasting their latest attempt at a cash grab IP

>>221005649Problem with He Man is that it's such a silly corny IP that the only way it can work is if you make a joke out of it, so you can't really make it "cool" for modern audiences through some animated show, which would've helped this movie

saw the trailer, once a few months ago and then again yesterday. looks like shit. zero previews of alison brie. her tits alone get normie coomers into theater seats.ZERO hype. should've started with a cartoon.
>>221010798If you care about toys, cartoons, or comics and you're over the age of 12, you're a nerd.
>>221005692Everyone that replied to this post misunderstood it. TAKE THE PREMISE SERIOUSLY. I’m not asking for a deadly serious He-Man movie, but this Marvel style jokiness needs to be fully dead and buried. Stop telling the audience who are fans of this thing that it sucks and it’s stupid garbage for babies.
>>221010798>There's nothing nerd about He-Man though. The nerds are the ones that keep the lights on when an ip fades from mainstream popularity into relative obscurity.
>>221005649Target audience of He man here. I actually will watch this at home when I can torrent it, but there's realistically no way for me to see it in a theater. It would be gay to go see this with friends, and it would be even more pathetic than usual to go see it alone. There really was no way for this to do well in a theater.
He-Man is as irrelevant today as Speed Racer was when that Speed Racer came out years ago. Maybe even more so. And that movie was also a giga-bomb.
>>221010798>There's nothing nerd about He-Man though.Lol. If you ever want to find a He-Man fan in the wild, the best bet of finding one is either at a comic book store or the toy aisle at your local Target store. He's that fat middled aged guy that takes up most of the aisle getting dirty looks from a parent with her child who wants him to get out the way so she can buy her kid a toy.
>>221010836All of that started with Iron Man 3. Which is why I fucking hate that movie. Non nerds can't take any of these things seriously. But with that being said with He-Man specifically the original ip was so cheesy it would be really really hard to do a straight serious take on the ip and it would end up coming off as a parody anyway.
>1987 film: Flop>New Adventures of He-Man: Flop>MOTU 2002: Flop>Kevin Smith thing: Flop>CG kiddy thing: Flop>2026 movie: FlopMaybe it's time to stop trying to make He-Man a thing.
>>221010239You could've said the exact same thing about Iron Man.
>>221010932Yes, the original cartoon was cheesy, but the world is awesome and there’s so much to work with. The early 00s revival series had a more serious tone while still having fun.

>>221010828Yeah, and those people are all into IP's that have been managed far better than He-Man
>>221010870That Speed Racer movie was shit even though it is memed as some kind of kino art piece.

Cool. And when the next Ninja Turtles revival comes out in two years and bombs we can finally put 80s nostalgia to rest.
>>221010557why do you pedos overuse the word cute? Is it a lost childhood thing you are trying to regain?
>>221005649go woke go broke
>>221011004There is a whole generation of people that don't understand that all of the comics that these Marvel movies are based on didn't have MCU style quips in them. They were all taken seriously. Like for how much everybody likes to meme on TDKR those movies nailed the true tone of the comics they are based on. The quips and memes all started with Joss Whedon. Then went into overdrive with Thor Ragnarok and its been downhill ever since. But anybody that thinks these meme movies like Gunn Superman are "comics accurate" don't know what the fuck they are talking about. Like when reading them as kids the source material for these things was perceived as dead serious. Not a joke. Like even Speed Racer was seen as serious to the kids that watched it at the time. Not a joke. All of the prime ip's that weren't something like Looney Tunes or Scooby Doo or the Flintstones were seen as serious to the kids that watched and read them at the time.
>>221011739Superman comics are fucking hilarious, though.
>>221011446>I feel like a skilled director could have made this work for older and younger gens but thats the issue, everything in Hollywood is nepo formulaic shitThis is part of the problem of why it failed. It looks EXACTLY like that Red One movie from the Rock that bombed year before last. They all have that same digital orange and brown dry flat cgi look to them. All cookie cutter corporate and no creative artistry. It screams "this is more of the same". Which subconsciously signals that the movie is probably woke even if its not. And the funny thing is that just like Red One this He-Man movie apparently isn't woke. But it does look like corporate slop just like Red One did even if they are both underrated compared to other blatantly corporate woke slop cash grabs.
>>221011824You must be reading current "postmodern deconstruction" era comics then.
>>221005649The good folk at the toy company Mattel are now raking their brains on why their super awesome movie based on the 1980s super awesome hit toy He-Man failed at the boxoffice.
>>221005726His voice and, I assume, body acting were extraordinary. Even as light-hearted as it was, he delivered a wonderfully cartoonish performance of pure evil. Also, this movie's worth seeing just for Teela's glorious ass. Glorious, I tell you.

>>221012011Hollywood is trying to re-synthesize the magic of the absolute peak era of comics (and pop culture in general) which is the 80's to the early 90's. None of that era was based on memes and quips or ironic deconstruction. And whenever a movie started going that way is when they failed hard with self referential absolute meme garbage like Joel Shumacher Batman and Robin.
>>221005692>don't shit on the audience that actually loves your franchiseThere is no audience. I'm 40 and even as a kid He Man was seen as a retro cartoon. The actual, genuine fanbase of the cartoon, if it exists, is now 50+ and I doubt they gave a shit either. It was all just a misguided attempt at nostalgia baiting something that nobody really cared much about or totally aged out of.
Just got back from the movie. It was great fun and genuinely the most male positive movie I’ve watched in a long time. This is another case of a trailer doing irreparable harm to the movie. Putting the He/Him joke in the trailer, out of context, was a mistake. It wrongly gave people the impression that it’s woke slop when in fact any instance of wokeness is shown as a negative.Soundtrack was awesome.
>>221012497What sucks is MotU has a fantastic universe where anything goes. Sword and sorcery plus robot tech and lasers. It’s why I defend Thor The Dark World. They did a lot of very He-Man type stuff in that movie.
>>221012497People had already aged out of He-Man by the time the original 1987 film came out. I know that nostalgia is a thing but I don't feel like Gen Xers are as attached to their childhoods as millennials are. There's always going to be nerds interested in dorky cartoon/comic properties but I feel like He-Man specifically is just extremely antiquated and out-dated compared to even other Gen X kid properties like ThunderCats or Voltron.
>>221005692>>221007956This has to be culture war faggotry. No 50 year old dude is seriously getting mad because He Man the movie was too silly, right?
>>221012393>MillennialsAnon, He-man isn't a fucking "Millenial" thing. I know zoomers see Millenials starting in '81 and MOTU in '82, but . MOTU was all but over by '87, it's peak was like 82-85. The oldest Millenials were 4 at most. My brother, born in the 70's, is a He-man kid, peak audience, born in '74 and was 8 in '82 when it startedHe has a son who's about to be 30 who just go married a year ago. He's likely going to be a grandpa in 5 years time. Kids born in the 70's, who were the peak MOTU/He-man audience, did have kids in their 20's, and even if they waited until their 30's or early 40's, the children they had aren't little kids.
>>221005670>Why did they use He/HimSo they could make fun of pronouns
>>221012527Also just got back from the movie and I have quibbles:1. Way too much Marvel style humor where every serious or emotional moment is immediately undercut by someone cracking a joke or making fun of the premise. 2. Why is Adam such a useless doofus? He didn’t lose his memory when he got to earth. He knows he’s a prince from another world but seems totally unconcerned with Skeletor seeming killing his parents and destroying his home. Wouldn’t it be much more logical that he spent his fifteen years on earth training to become a warrior and worrying about his friends?
>>221005649Up to $54 million now
>>221012551>People had already aged out of He-Man by the time the original 1987 film came out. This is true. I'm prime Gen X and I remember me and my squad going to see Dolph Lungren He-Man in the theater. It was an awful experience. I didn't even have high hopes going in personally but it was even worse than I had feared. Honestly I suspect this new movie is probably better than that old 87' version.
>>221012625Also: DO THE FUCKING THING OR DON’T. So sick of these movies assuming there’s going to be a sequel and teasing shit out. Fucking show Cringer transforming into Battle Cat and kicking ass.
>>221012551>I know that nostalgia is a thing but I don't feel like Gen Xers are as attached to their childhoods as millennials are.anon, it's late Gen X'ers who hard carried Star wars as a cultural phenomenon and cried about the prequels so much as to influence the sequels. they're the ones paying out the ass for G1 Transformers. They're the only ones still buying GI Joe, or MOTU toys. They have way more buying power and collectibles than any other generation. They just don't trust Hollywood movies anymore, because why would they? This movie will bomb but some 50 year old is still gonna drop $2,000 on MOTU toys this yearThe way generations are laid out doesn't neatly line up with pop culture. I would say the kids who experienced about 1980-1990 have the most nostalgic attachment. The only "millennial", which most people refer to 90's kids, stuff that has the same staying power is Pokemon and Harry Potter, with a select few things like PPG, Power Rangers, or Nicktoons reaching that level.
>>221012688The bad experience was due to the movie looking nothing like the show and the toys. It was a complete disaster for the brand.
>>221012653That's terrible.>>221012049A lot of a movie's success depends on the first weekend. Sure, it might bounce up if there's positive word of mouth spreading, but it's not looking too good. Might be able to barely break even.
>>221012759It was recently pointed out to me that SpongeBob is to younger millennials and Gen Z what The Simpsons was to Gen X and elder millennials.
>>221005692This man right but midwits read "audience" like "audience of the old show", not "audience who will think that things why the old show was popular are cool".
>>221007771I see the shills are in damage control mode
I love all the faggots who come into the thread to declare "NOBODY CARES ABOUT HE-MAN BUT I'M GOING TO ARGUE HOW THE COMPLAINERS ARE WRONG"What are you fighting for if you say the IP is shit. Wokeness? You don't want anyone to believe all the wokeary they pull is putting people off?
>>221012809The one thing I am jealous of younger generations is Harry Potter. I would have really been into it if it had came out when I was like elementary school age. Unfortunately it came out after my generation but I would not trade it for the 80's that I got to come up in with peak era Marvel and D&D. Gen-X'ers got lucky coming up in the era that we did. Nothing else comes close.

>>221013226Absolutely by far the best thing about the movie and Leto fully understood the assignment. Skeletor isn’t some tragic villain with a complicated backstory, he’s just a blue and purple skeleton faced man who simply loves being evil.
>>221012625>1. Way too much Marvel style humorCan't argue that. It felt a bit more toned down than modern MCU but it still was jarring.>2. Why is Adam such a useless doofus? That's been his character since 2002 and is intended as a contrast to super confident and competent He-Man. >>221005649this movie needed bigger tits and more cleavage
>>221013446Yeah, that was absurd.
I look forward to seeing opinion of the movie shift once it hits streaming.
JARED LETO LITERALLY DRESSED UP AS THE GRIM REAPER. LITERALLY KILLS THIS MOVIEBRAVO NOLAN
>>221013446that was why the 1987 He-Man was actually smart. there's no point trying to do the Adam / He Man transition in a movie because its not meaningful when you have a real actor playing the role. was simpler just to have him be He Man the whole time and do "I have the power" near the end as the pivot point of a scene.
>>221005649Look at the global sociopolitical trends of where young guys are going and then look at this movie and its marketing. Obviously this wasn't going to resonate. You have to strip the gay out of these things. You have to give it the Michael Bay treatment for lack of a better term.
>>221013256>he’s just a blue and purple skeleton faced man who simply loves being evil.He wasn't always like that. And if we get another movie, they might explore his background.
>>221013592Yeah, I recall they gave him a full back story in the 2002 version, but honestly I’m cool with him just being evil for love of the game.
>>221013573I don’t know about that. The whole reason the MCU got so popular is because they finally just made the live action versions look like they do in the comics rather than putting them in black leather like the X-Men movies.
>>221013510Everyone is agreeing that his performance is easily the best thing about the movie.
>>221013621Idiot, he had a backstory in the comics you got with the figures literally at release.
>>221005649It's a movie with a pronouns jokes for 50 year old Gen Xers, of course it flopped, no one outside the US even knows what a Skeletor is.
>>221013820I’ll be honest, I’m 42 and a big fan of MotU as a whole, but never read any of the comics. Most of the action figures I had back then were bought from yard sales and such.
A friend of the family went and told us about it. The most tense moment in the film where skeletor is winning gets subverted and turned into a dumb joke.So the movie is more insincere slop where nothing matters and there is no tension.
>>221013699I very much doubt that's the whole reason. And even if it were the number of source material autists for things like He-Man or GI-Joe are too few to matter. No, letting go of the boomers and leftoid culture warriors is absolutely what's required here.
>>221005649us normal people don't care for white male power fantasy anymore, we can see them for the dogwhistles they are.

Imagine spending $200 million just to have Jared Leto deliver 'He/Him' quips while the audience realizes the only thing actually 'powered up' was the executive's desire to launder money. This isn't cinema, it's a $180 million tax write-off in a blonde wig. Keep the capeshit, I'm watching paint dry, it has better character development.
>>221013853You'd have to be older to have read the original 1982 DC comics, they pre-date the cartoon by a year.
>>221013946>shit was so ass that made toriyama shat out new movies and dragon ball superthis thing made more damage than everyone imagined
>>221014019Jared Leto is awesome as Skeletor, but I kid you not, there’s a moment in the movie where the main characters are saved by an Amazon truck.
>>221013946If i thought like a corporate executive i'd be messing with the base pillars of these cultural products out of greed and falling to the siren song of academic feminists. That is what happened here with He-Man. But culture and generations do change and you cannot remain stagnant. I'm not going to apologize for wanting things like Star Wars or Halo to remain relevant with new generations of teenage boys and advocating what is necessary to achieve it.
>>221012993While it's true that MOTU is old and no one really cares, that kind of mindset ignores that these are meant to be relaunches to introduce new people to something. LOTR was old in the 2000s. That didn't prevent it from making billions. The vast majority of capeshit characters were several decades old in 2010s. That didn't stop them from dominating the boxoffice. One of Netflix's most popular shows ever is a take on a comic series that started in the 1930s.The biggest issue is that there's already been multiple attempts to relaunch He-Man and they've consistently failed. The 90s cartoon? Yes. The 00s cartoon? Yes. The wombo combo of Kevin Smith and kids CG shows? Yes.
Jared Leto = BombsWho is surprised at this point?
>>221014019>just to have Jared Leto deliver 'He/Him' quipsIncredible that there now exists a trailer that's done more to sabotage its movie than Transformers One did.Fuck whoever put those trailer together.
>>221014464It seems like you’re basing this entirely on the trailer. Here are my main issues with the movie itself after seeing it earlier today:1. Too much outdated Thor Ragnorok and GotG style humor 2. Too long. The modern corporate culture satire could and should’ve been completely cut out. This movie would very much benefit from being under two hours.

It's just a lose-lose.
>>221014575Also, a major flaw is that the movie sort of treats Adam as if he’d lost his memory of his past life on Eternia when he didn’t. Applying his stupid HR jargon that he learned on earth in a job he hated makes zero sense.

>>221014720I thought it was funny in the movie. Should never have been in the trailer though for exactly the reason you gave.

>>221014575I know it very much hits the right notes nostalgia-wise and because of the raceswaps, feminist lens and laundering woke through comedic scenes cognitive dissonance kicks in and you have to rationalize the contradiction. For most though nostalgia is not a factor here.
>>221005649Grim. The movie was a really good summer flick despite its flaws. Scary Movie was fucking DOGSHIT and it killed He-Man.
I was interested when the movie was announced. Race swapped Duncan and Teela dropped my interest a bit but I could get past if it looked otherwise. Then the trailer dropped and the Earth section and quippy humor dropped my interest like a goddamn brick. Then the director talking about toxic masculinity just sealed the deal that the movie wasn't for me, and also probably anyone else that was genuinely interested at the initial announcement. They only have themselves to blame. They couldn't turn off their "modern audiences" brain to take the project seriously and screwed themselves. I'm not mad, my life exactly as it was before this movie came out and I didn't lose a bunch of money on a failed project.
>>221014986It really isn’t as woke as you’re thinking. Teela was always a strong female character and there’s no training montage or anything where she’s smarter and better at everything than Adam. Idris playing Man-at-Arms was fine to me since he’s always good at that sort of role. That’s the only true race swap.
>>221015055In fact, Adam’s corporate boss on earth is a black woman and she’s portrayed as an asshole.
>>221005649Was it because of Jared Leto? I know he's box office poison but damn. This film looks like it's fun at least, oh well.

>>221006083I don't like the original He-Man, but I like the 2002ish era one.
>>221015917Barbie had the feminist metatext and big dick Gosling stealing the show with a meme fuel performance. It also hit at a pretty perfect time in the zeitgeist.
>>221015875>Man-at-arms is not a niggerDon't care, Idris was good in the role, Besides, the only thing that actually matters is that Man-At-Arms has a moustache.
>>221015055It's sad you're making all these excuses and de facto teaming up with feminist culture warriors just to score that next hit of nostalgia, maintain your hold and prevent these properties from thriving with new generations of boys. That's just not right. Besides the obvious feminists, this is why i said it's extremely important to let go of you boomers.
>>221016176Anon, I saw the movie and you didn’t. You’re basing your opinion entirely on the He/Him gag in the trailer.
>>221015917yeah but hot wheels is the male counterpartnobody gives a shit about MOTU except gen x manbabies and some mexicans
>>221005973Honestly whether or not this film is faithful is almost beside the point. That Kevin Smith atrocity burned all bridges an alienated the entire fanbase. The well was poisoned before they even started production on this
>>221005886Boomers are convinced that He-Man is still a popular franchise for retarded reasons.Everytime a boomer fails catastrophically in trying to push shit like this, it's always something else's fault.>women>minorities>being wokeIt's never that boomers are fucking retards with outdated notions of what people want
>>221016223Just because you've repeated that claim over and over does not make it true. I've been sticking with the facts rather than trying to sidestep the argument.
>>221016300What facts? You haven’t seen the movie lol
>>221005649what did I do?
>>221005649So is the premise that He-Man as it exists in our world, also exists in another alternate world. Kind of like the new Mortal Komat movie?
you ever see that genre of youtube video of dudes flipping nerd commodities. just endless garage sales, flea markets, conventions enslaved to an ocean of plastic junk toys, kitsch and fleeting memories. sends an existential shiver up my spine.
>>221016350No, but that could’ve been interesting. Probably too much like Barbie though.
>>221005649Lamest “revived toy IP” everNobody fucking cares about masters of the universe>ugly fucking characters except skeletor and the multi face guy>zero weight to the story to possibly expand upon for adults (transformers has politics, tmnt has family bonds and nature/nurture, gi joe has honor and duty)
>>221005649I movie hopped in the theater today and watched it. It was absolutely fucking awful. Genuine 2/10 star flick.
>>221015917He-Man is just too old of an IP, I grew up through the 90s and never knew about him at all. My first and really only introduction to it was through Robot Chicken and Family Guy, and I've never really heard about it outside those shows.
we're never getting another big budget white boy movie again...
>>221016309Pathetic. Have the feminists told you what movie to shill next yet? I think there's a Matchbox one coming up. Is that one next?
>>221016460Okay, I see that you conveniently ignored >>221015092. The black woman in the movie is portrayed as a negative stereotype of modern woke corporate culture.
>>221006083>if they had made this rightAnd how would that be? I watched it. It was just a basic movie. Probably would have done better as a movie on a streaming platform than theaters. There really wasn't anything noteworthy about the movie. The two fight scenes with he-man were cool I guess but not big budget cool. They could have given more story to Evil-lyn maybe but that's about all there is to the story. He-man punches Skeletor. The only part I thought was retarded was the sword of power being inside a collectible store. I was really expecting someone to say the sword he grabbed wasn't the original or was a fake, and then it segways into the fact the power is inside of him and not the sword but they kinda drop that point and still treat the sword as the one he actually lost, which again why the fuck would it be in a collectible store.
>>221005670Because it was actually good, too good for retards, as evidenced by the replies to your post.
>>221006360Yeah most of the jokes didn't land. I don't really mind the self-mockery because the 80s cartoon is cheesy and dumb as hell, but at least make it funny and not just cringey innuendo stuff. I did enjoy pretty much every scene with Skeletor, they did a good job with him and the fights were all pretty entertaining. Overall better than I expected but could have been a lot better than it was. I think it'll do decent on streaming.
>>221016584>And how would that be?>>221010836
Of course it flopped. it has a great concept but of course a certain group of people who control (((Hollywood))) couldnt let a movie empower white males be good. They just had to ruin it.
>>221016707did you go and see it?
>>221014502no the biggest issue is that those relaunches keep trying to foist their own bullshit into something and then are surprised when people do want to see it, but STILL refuse to believe that its their bullshit that is keeping people away.LOTR and capeshit (in the beginning) was stuff made by people who wanted to do the IP well, and the people were happy to see a decent movie. Conan the Barbarian was a pulp story and comicbook but they took the 1980 Conan movie seriously and it became a classic. They COULD'VE tried to make a decent movie out of this but it was obvious to everyone that nobody gave a shit
>>221017000You have to keep in mind that a movie like this is filtered through multiple layers of corporate meddling. The end product doesn’t necessarily reflect the original script or concept.
>>221016785Nta, but I saw it. It was fine.
>>221016707>>221016785Anyone who's watched the movie knows that the pronouns thing is written as a joke at the expense of wokeism, not in support of it. So, was it inserted into the trailer, out of context, to intentionally mislead people into thinking the movie was woke and kill interest in it?
