i'm watching this now and it's hard to get throughmarkiplier is a bad actor and not a very good director. it's a slog
>Poppy Playtime fans are still seething because Mark called their game shitGRIM
>>221007282Yeah I zoned out after 15 minutes.
>>221007329mentally ill post
I thought he did ok but the whole story is just hard to follow. They explain literally nothing and you are supposed to occupy your time with him in a blood ocean sub and...and that's it. NOt a great plan desu.
>>221007282it's a slowburn
You are farming izzat with this thread sarrr
>>221007282I watched it on 4x and it was pretty good
>no talent rich eceleb does vanity projectWOW
>>221007282It's a slow start but for a guy starting out with acting and directing I don't think it is that bad at all.Needed some more explanation but it was worth the price I watched it for (free).

>>221007282I regret not seeing this in theaters for the lulz

>>221007282Yeah it was bad. Lore is not a substitute for story. The movie is a product of a certain youtube ecosystem of lore videos, where youtubers explain or even make up a video game's lore instead of just playing it. You see these videos everywhere, especially for games like five nights at freddys, which is yet another game Markiplier is famous for playing. It's a type of movie made for kids who watch matpat/game theory.Iron Lung can be summed up by this post. It's a movie that is intentionally vague and won't make sense unless you go on youtube afterwards to look up "iron lung movie lore explained". It's undoubtedly a movie made by a full-time youtuber, and the algorithm minmaxing habits all big youtubers have are pretty apparent in it.It should have just been a simple 90min movie about a convict forced to photograph and navigate a blood ocean on an alien moon. That premise itself is great and is why the game became popular. But most of the movie is idle, it's just Markiplier talking about nothing or lore being introduced but never explained. It diverges from the game as well, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the psychological/lovecraftian direction he took it made it boring. The photographs were boring as well, but not nearly as unsettling as the game. For a movie all about lore, there is an odd absence of new original monsters and structures that could have been discovered.

>>221010583Yeah it's a bit avant guarde but just search for "Iron Lung criticism 4chan explained" on youtube
>>221010583How is it meaningless? I explained the core problem of this movie and why it is the way it is: it's a movie by a youtuber whose underage audience watches pic related kind of content. It's a movie that lacks a story and instead relies solely on its own 'lore'. It's not its own self-contained piece of media, it's a vessel for loreslop and '[movie] explained' videos on youtube. Nothing is explained in the movie, as 2 posters above me already pointed outBy being unaware of this youtube ecosystem you fail to realise the true genre of the movie: loreslop
>>221011621The movie is entirely self contained, these "lore videos" are pure conjecture, and are borderline fan fiction. Just because you struggled with a movie that doesn't give you concrete answers about what happens doesn't make it "loreslop". You're the kind of retard that would watch Aniara and hyperfixate on the rods as some kind of major plot hole. You're missing the point, dumbass. It isn't our fault you need to go watch a "'x movie' explained" youtube video after every film you watch.
I think it would actually be pretty good if it was legit 30 minutes shorter. It being 2 hours makes no sense to me.I know its meant to be artsy fartsy "It builds tension" sets the "tone".That's cope.It lingers way to long.I think it's like a 6? out of 10 currently. cutting time would make it an easy 7.I also think never having watched Markiplier helped my experience. I knew of him but never watched any of his youtube videos. I think his acting was fine but the movie is too long. This might be an insane take but I think I actually enjoyed Iron lung more than I did the backrooms movie. ymmv.
The main issue is that nothing really interesting happens during the movie. It's all just small bits and pieces of information but they're not really adding up to any interesting whole. The direction further makes this a chore to sit through since there's no particular structure to things, either a three act structure or any kind of tension buildup and then payoff one. The "lore" is paper thin and is not that compelling. The "situation" is not that interesting either. Direction usually carries concepts like this entirely since you have to convey the drama of the situation and the predicament in a way that is captivating. This just comes off as some mid 00s canadian coproduction Syfy original, like a mid outer limits episode or something.
