Zoomers could never understand this feeling.
>>
>>221007315
Once asked my faggot loser father to buy me one, he promised next summer and I just remembered that he promised it
>>
>>221007315
Zoomers can watch films on their phone which is the same thing except less gimmicky.
>>
>>221007356
My uncle promised to take me to Six Flags like 18 years ago and every now and then when I see him he still promises he’ll do it
>>
>>221007315
Neither did I because I wasn't fucking spoiled.
If you had one of those, you were either rich-white, a child of divorce, or a nigger and it was stolen.
>>
>watching Buffy DVDs on my portable player in the family minivan as we drive to Universal Studios Orlando
good memories
>>
>>221007315
Pretty sure they understand electronics
>>
I had one. But I didn't seem like some tremendous expensive gadget. It was something furniture stores gave away as an extra when you bought a couch or mattress.
>>
>>221007315
I saw these for sale a lot of places but never saw anyone actually using one, even on planes

>>221007418
Which one?
>>
>>221007315
This thing was a lifesaver on long roadtrips
>>
>>221007418
That’s so cool.

Anyone else have one of these gems? Even though my parents had plenty of money they bought us these Segas instead. No memory, no charger, ate through AA’s like crazy. But damn it made road trips good.
>>
>>221007315
I remember some of those had like really poor battery life, like one and a half hour or so. You couldn't even watch an entire movie without plugging somewhere at some point
>>
>>221009970
The game gear sucked, just a terrible library where most of the games were just inferior remakes of Genesis games
The Game Boy mogged despite being in grayscale
>>
>>221009970
I only ever knew one person who had one and he never played it because it went through 4 AAs in an hour or so. Everyone else already had a Gameboy and that was good enough
>>
>>221007356
We traveled a lot and they got me one to enjoy on the way and back. That and my walkman and gameboy color.
>>
They’ll never know the feeling of your heart pounding as you anxiously wait for a porn .jpg to slowly load from the top down on the family PC while listening for any footsteps. Then printing the picture while getting even more anxious that someone would come into the room. First black and white low-res pics to beat off to then eventually colour. I remember running out of one ink color and the result was a weird inverted color looking pic that yes I still beat off to.

Or playing 1.2 MB South Park games that took hours to download. Even today I’m sometimes reminded of how unbelievable our download speeds are compared to back in the day.
>>
>>221010076
If you had the adapter, the Game Gear could become a portable Master System which is much better than the OG game boy
>>
>>221009970
>>221010076
I had a Gameboy pocket with the light and magnifyer attachments, and when chad and brads game gears died on field trips I'd just say shucks, chuck.
>>
>>221007315
Onda? Like the Ondalini?
>>
>>221009970
dogshit games but i wanted one. no one understands how mindblowing a color lcd on a portable seemed at the time.
>>
>>221007315
These things were in use way into the 00s, the earliest zoomers remember those. I had one. And I broke it.
>>
It was common to find them at flea markets. Perfect for watching adult films.
>>
>>221007315
I got one of these for road trips with my kids. We don't let them use smartphones but it helps keep them happy during the boring bits of the drive.
>>
I remember taking a DVD copy of Coyote Ugly into the family bathroom when I was young and cranking it out to the sex scene. Great times.
>>
>>221007446
Buddy these things cost like $140 and were premier middle class fodder. Rich kids had cars with a drop down screen on the roof.
>>
>>221011083
I did the same thing only it was the sex scene in Caddyshack
>>
>>221011018
I went to buy one a year ago on short notice (unexpected 1000 mile road trip to a funeral with a 3 year old tagging along) and after looking around town all day I ended up at walmart and the guy in the tech department had to climb up to a storage locker covered in cobwebs and had one single one left that had probably been in there for over a decade
works fine though and he marked it down to $40 since the upc wasn't even in their system any more
>>
>>221007446
Actually spoiled kids just had laptops. Portable DVD players were the poorfag option.
>>
>>221011176
> mom got a tech job in the late 90s
> they just threw laptops at employees every year
> had a really nice business ibm with a clitnub mouse that was built for architectural rendering software so was wildly overpowered compared to normal personal laptops
> always got to host the lan parties whichever house we played at
good times
>>
>>221009970
No, I just stood around at Target playing theirs for hours while my mom shopped.
>>
>>221007315
I had one of these in the late 2000s when I was in the Coast Guard. While we were out at sea and had free time I could get up in my rack and put my headphones on and watch DVDs and forget for an hour or two that I wasn't miserable working around the clock on a ship doing the nastiest grunt work because I was one of the lowest ranking guys on the crew. For Christmas one year I bought The Sopranos complete series when it came out as a box set, and that kept me occupied for a long time out there. We would trade movies and shows with each other, because you would go through your own collection way too fast.
The movie studios also used to send us new releases on 8mm tapes to watch. Films that were still in the theaters even. Those players were only available in common areas though.

>steal three holo god cards from some brown kid at summer camp
>sell them to another kid for $20 each
>buy portable dvd player with it
kinda feel bad but not really
>>
>>221009970
You were supposed to get an adapter for the car's cigarette lighter for road trips. You could also get a TV tuner add-on that fit into the game cartridge slot and allowed you to use it as a portable color TV. That was enough for my dad to agree to get one, since he could use it to watch his boomer programs in the evening no matter where we were.
>>
>>221011469
You created a psychopath rapist
>>
>>221007446
>Neither did I because I wasn't fucking spoiled.

lol these were never high end tech
>>
>>221011101
>Rich kids had cars with a drop down screen on the roof.
You hardly ever see those in other cars on the highway at night anymore
>>
>>221011101
>Buddy
And a gold to you this fine day, m'sir!
>>
>>221011956
Oh I'm sorry ranjeet, I meant "fr fr nocap bruh"
>>
>>221007315
Anyone else DVDmaxxing? I'm buying mystery packs on ebay of loose discs and most of them are good or at least interesting.
>>
>>221007315
Taking this to the library and watching movies in the study room every summer afternoon was a blessing. I tried to make it a date once and got ghosted by the girl halfway through. She was what my dad would call a practice girlfriend anyway, so i didn't care except i did and felt like a fucking loser for biffing it.

This thing changed my life in middle school. 120 gigs. Had a dozen movies, couple of seasons of various shows, few hundred songs, and a couple games. This thing was a power house. And the screen was the size of a stamp but felt like a theater. Used to watch the Dark Knight on the bus with my friend, huddled over the screen so we could both watch.
>>
>>221011879
Every little shithead kid has a phone or tablet now. Even toddlers. Parents buy their kindergartners cell phones now. It's insanity. They don't need a flip down TV screen in the SUV when they can go on to redtube on their phone from the comfort of their carseat.
>>
>>221007315
Only your rich friends had one. It wouldve been such an easy investment to pacify me and my sister during car trips but parents were just not having it pre-iPad generation

Woah dude we millennials were so unique bro.
>>221009906
>>221009970
Can you believe people used to entertain themselves with a small device on roadtrips? Haha I guess you're a bit too young to understand...

Bro kids these days don't even know what a TCG is bro! So true! Like have they even heard of Pokemon????

This is correct, I was born in 2000 and remember watching Three Stooges on car trips. It got replaced when my dad got a car with a DVD player in it.

This but unironically. 3D Polygons in your car was mind blowing

>>
>>221014781
The first Zune didn’t even come out until 5 years after the iPod. Microsoft was far too late.
>>
>>221007315
I remember watching movies on my 1st Gen 80gb ipod video. Having access to media on long trips was truly something special back then. Zoomers don't know the true value because there is no scarcity for them.
>>
>>221014753
Not that rich. I usually had hand me down electronics from my older brother. That was one of the first brand new devices I got just for me. Either for Xmas or birthday I can’t remember. Used it for a good long time too. Still have it.
>>221014781
Those were cool, my neighbor had one and it legit was just as good as the iPod classic.
>>
>>221010132
Or the feeling of a family member walking in on you with your sweaty butt cheeks out on the family computer chair, desperately hunched over trying to hide your erect penis.
>>
>>221015219
It wasn't. The navigation was ass. The one cool thing was you could send mp3 zune to zune.

>>
>>221007315
I have a car that I bought brand new in 2011 that still has two DVD players built into the back of the front headrests.
>>
>>221013006
Your sarcasm is not appreciated here, lil virgin zoomie. This thread is for Chadlennials to reminisce about the good old days of portable electronic equipment. We don't need to hear from a zoomie titbaby who was born with an iPhone in his hand. You have nothing to add to this conversation, so kindly return to tiktok where your generation of surly sarcastic hate mongerers belong. 4 chan is OUR thing.

>Coyote Ugly
They must have done some great marketing with that movie since I remember wanting to go see it at the cinema as a young teenager thinking it'd be some porno.
>>
>>221007315
I never bothered with one of these because I just used my fucking laptop.
>>
>>221011237
I had a girlfriend in 2010 that got a Lenovo Thinkpad from her work that she never used and let me use basically as my own personal laptop after having only used desktops my whole life. I remember thinking how I could keep it for myself if she dumped me, it was that good.
>>
>>221011523
>some brown kid
it was already a psychopath rapist.
>>
>>221012203
I regret not buying the last iteration of the iPod (160GB?) but I think they were still expensive even back then. But it would have been really nice to have one in mint condition.
>>
>>221016537
Are there any good mp3 players sold anymore?
>>
>>221018067
Only on ebay or other reseller sites, I have a 16gig Sony Walkman MP3 player manufactured in 2010 that still works great. I wear it when I jog
Fuck using my phone why the hell would I want to jog with my phone it's too big and heavy.
>>
I still own a portable DVD player, it lives in my kitchen so I can watch movies while I'm cooking and doing dishes. Not the greatest picture and audio quality, but it works.
>>
>>221007315
I've never seen one of these before.

Our dvd player was my computer. I remember watching What Women Want with my family sitting on my bed one christmas. It was a great time, I miss my family.
Take me back.
>>
>>221007315
Never understood those pieces of shit even back then. Internal screens invariably sucked and they couldn't even be used with a TV properly as they lacked RGB output (and no way in hell I'm watching DVD over composhite video).
>>
>>221018852
Better to just watch a VHS on the TV than have everyone watch a DVD on a computer screen.
>>
>>221018867
The whole point is it was portable in the days before iPads, you could take it in the car for your kids or on a trip. They were a lot cheaper, smaller and lighter than laptops. Obviously at home with a TV available you would just use a normal player.
>>
>>221007315
