Backrooms is too genuinely artistic to work for ADHD afflicted teens and twentysomethings. it's a movie for people who go to the cinema anyway so it can't succeed beyond a given baseline.

Everyone's acting like these movies are runaway hits, but they're just doing modest numbers. Faggots can go on and on about whatever "discourse" literal whos on xitter are having, but neither film has even hit $250 million, so not many peoople have actually seen them. Doing well against a small budget doesn't make something a hit. Both will be forgotten by the time the next horror FOTM comes out. It feels like all the fake hype around Sinners or M3gan.

Because it's not interesting it's just a simple idea for a setting that can't go anywhere without losing the feeling of the idea completely. There isn't and can't be any "lore" to it. Same thing with shit like SCP: the intent to make something into a "universe" takes that thing away

it's a film that attempts or tries to be 'artistic' but fails because the subtext is so obviously thin, you realize very early the creator has no idea what they are doing at all

they are just aggressively throwing things at a wall and hoping people will imagine it has more meaning than it does

the best way to describe backrooms is that it is like a zoomer created a move by using an ai prompt, and that ai prompt was 'make me a movie that feels like an ai prompt'

any shots in the movie that are whatsoever interesting are clearly by accident, and this is reinforced constantly by how the movie destroys that shot within four or five minutes, as if it to say, 'you thought something interesting or good was going to happen? i'm going to shoot that good thing in the head right in front of you and shit in your mouth for the next 30 minutes.'
