I think Obsession is going to end up grossing more Backrooms has atrociously bad word of mouth and it's showing, it's performing like a YouTuber event movie and not a horror movie
who asked
>>221008475Obsession is actually a good movie and highly recommendable. Backrooms is just surprisingly okay for a meme film
>>221008475Movie is misandrist propaganda
Backrooms was boring trash. Obsession was better, still not great. Zoomers can't make flicks.
>>221008537God you people are exhaustingIt's just a lame movie
>>221008475they're both unremarkable and will be quickly forgotten
>>221008536Yeah I basically put Backrooms in the same bucket as those 80s and 90s oddities where they made a movie about a song or TV commercial
>>221008536this. i don't think people will talk about backrooms in 5 years.
>>221008475Backrooms is too genuinely artistic to work for ADHD afflicted teens and twentysomethings. it's a movie for people who go to the cinema anyway so it can't succeed beyond a given baseline. same problem as Alex Garland movies.
Is Obsession really that good? I read the plot synopsis and from that it sounds woefully unimaginative and generic.
>>221008536>Obsession is actually a good movie and highly recommendable. What is good or recommendable about it? It's just childish gore trash with no plot
>>221009918No, its the exact same monkey paw story you've seen in every horror anthology ever.
Everyone's acting like these movies are runaway hits, but they're just doing modest numbers. Faggots can go on and on about whatever "discourse" literal whos on xitter are having, but neither film has even hit $250 million, so not many peoople have actually seen them. Doing well against a small budget doesn't make something a hit. Both will be forgotten by the time the next horror FOTM comes out. It feels like all the fake hype around Sinners or M3gan.
>>221009870Putting a character in therapy and spouting pop psych nonsense doesn't make a movie deepI guarantee you think this is deep and complex and interesting too
>>221009918It's good though the direction, acting, and editingThe story is Twilight zone level but it's fine I'm service of what they're going for
>>221010063>Doing well against a small budget doesn't make something a hitBased Disney exec
yeah bros get out there and support your plucky little grassroots 10 million dollar indie flick brought to you buy A24 and the Chernin Group
> Take one of the most interesting internet phenomena that has spawned numerous videos and pieces of lore.> Make it incredibly boring and about why men need therapy. Also notice how noone talks about the story? instead they talk about Kane's age.People go to horror movies to see cool shit not a slow walking tall slightly creepy pirate thing.
>>221010099If you make a movie with a 1 million dollar budget and it earns 10 million, is that a hit? It's profitable, but not a hit.
>>221010136>The backrooms>One of the most interesting internet phenomenaWhat? What is interesting about it?>Dude what if there were like continuous rooms ?....it doesn't go anywhere
>>221010136The therapy message is so puddle deep too it's trying to be complex and vague but there's just nothing to itGuy is just an asshole
>>221010216The therapy thing isn't trying to be complex or vague. Can you state why you think that? It's very direct and in your face and not complicated at all. I notice you young guys say that anything in movies that occurs at any point is the movie "trying to be complex"...events happen in stories, world building happens in stories. You are trying too hard to "win" instead of just not being interested. I feel like everything about people your age is gay lol, you just suck
>>221010186> What? What is interesting about it?There are like a million videos on youtube about Backrooms lore, Kane didn't use anything from it except for the one part about the pool rooms. The film was paper thin.
>>221010324>Zoomer videos about stuffOh....I'll ask again what makes it interesting? Can we not involve men who haven't had sex in the answer also I guess I should say that Because it's not interesting it's just a simple idea for a setting that can't go anywhere without losing the feeling of the idea completely. There isn't and can't be any "lore" to it. Same thing with shit like SCP: the intent to make something into a "universe" takes that thing awayIf you don't realize this your relationship with fiction and entertainment is trapped in childhood
>>221009870it isn'tit's a film that attempts or tries to be 'artistic' but fails because the subtext is so obviously thin, you realize very early the creator has no idea what they are doing at allthey are just aggressively throwing things at a wall and hoping people will imagine it has more meaning than it doesthe best way to describe backrooms is that it is like a zoomer created a move by using an ai prompt, and that ai prompt was 'make me a movie that feels like an ai prompt'any shots in the movie that are whatsoever interesting are clearly by accident, and this is reinforced constantly by how the movie destroys that shot within four or five minutes, as if it to say, 'you thought something interesting or good was going to happen? i'm going to shoot that good thing in the head right in front of you and shit in your mouth for the next 30 minutes.'
