I loved it when it came out but that was mostly me wanting it to better than it is.It's perfectly enjoyable and there's some really cool, soulful touches but things that really bring it down are:>script based almost completely on the OAV and not the manga, leading to plot concessions and glossing over things>Hugo's actor is really, really trying but he's just bad, he's not believable as a ruffian and his corny dialogue is made worse by the bad delivery. Might be the worst co-star I've ever seen in a movie of this caliber>Zapan is fun but he's not given enough screentime>Rollerball is amazing but it's shoehorned in because Cameron was being autistic about it, at the expense of the rest of the movie's pacing>Vector is also painfully underutilized and then killed off>Scrapyard sets are soulful but the aesthetic just isn't right, it looks like a lively favela instead of cyberpunk hell-on-Earth>Rodriguez just isn't that good of a director and leans into his "style" too much, even here where he says he did his best Cameron impersonationBut on the whole, it's really a good watch even if you're familiar with the manga.
