>The first tape has Star Wars in big text and the subtitle in small text>The other two tapes have Star Wars in small text and the subtitles in big textLiterally unwatchable
tape degraded anyway
>>221015039That's because Star Wars was the original title of the first movie, while The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were the titles of the sequels. The "Episode IV, V, VI" bullshit didn't come until later
>>221015075Bizarre that you were autistic enough to reply but still be incorrect. Episode IV was retitled as such as early as it's birthday rerelease May 19th, 1978. Episodes V and VI were always titled as such, which three people for a loop if they'd not seen an updated Star Wars yet. This is referring to the opening crawls. MARKETING-WISE they were instead referred to as singular titles, because a three-layer title is cumbersome. Thus, A New Hope remained Star Wars since it was already popularly known as such, and the sequels went by their subtitles. At the time of this specific VHS collection, Episode numbers were still not being pushed to the forefront as the prequels hadn't been announced yet; this was billed as the last hurrah for Star Wars ahead of the 10th anniversary and Special Editions, the tape set even had a note from Lucas himself stating such. For the Prequels for whatever reason, they designed the title logos to feature the Episode number more prominently, probably because Episode I was first and they wanted people to know it was in fact The Beginning (original title btw). So they commonly were called I, II, III because that was the largest wording on the logo.
