>storm so tall it opens a path to space and freezes everything in the eye of the storm immediately using super cold
I don't actually know, I'm not a climate expert but it sure sounds possible.

The book was written by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber so it's guaranteed bullshit.

Nuclear winter would have a similar, albeit less intense effect. But still enough to starve billions.

Trump let funding expire for the monitor buoys in the Atlantic Ocean, so we wouldn't know if it was happening.

This might be my favorite disaster movie.
Definitely have a soft spot for it.

Yes, and it has before. Humans went from first powered flight to the moon in 65 years. The idea anatomically modern humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years but only discovered how to form advanced civilizations 10,000~ years ago looks less likely day by day.
>>

That doesn't happen. You must have hallucinated it.
>>
>>221018642
The CFCs from humanity using sprays literally created a thinning of the ozone layer, this has been documented and proven and more or less fixed by globally banning CFCs.
So not only could it "really happen", supercold shit coming from space due to atmosphere fuckery actually happened (Just on a gradual scale rather than a 1 to 100 event and we didn't let it hit 5-6)

In reality, the Statue of Liberty is oriented 180 degrees relative to Manhattan Island from how it is shown in this poster. So no, this cold not really happen.

Weren't the wolves from a zoo or something? Is there a zoo somewhere nearby? I choose to believe that's what happened.
>>
>>221018396
I joined a climate change book club at my local library and theres a bunch of middle-aged ladies panicking like something crazy is going to happen but its all piss in the wind. The only thing anyone will probably see is some beach erosion in the next 50 years. We should tap the oil available and go with nuclear plants.

> tsunami waves as tall as skyscrapers
They explained it was gonna happen
>but they also all freeze in place
The eye wasn’t facing them yet
> also a pack of wild wolves shows up in flooded frozen nyc for some reason
The zoo
> also it all melts in a few days and goes back to normal
Nope. The movie cuts to people evacuating to mexico that’s why everything looks normal

>tsunami waves as tall as skyscrapers
That happens with the total waterline shift, yeah.
>but they (the tidal waves?) also all freeze in place
That doesn't happen. The city is flooded because of the new waterline, and some weeks later, the super cold storm passes and freezes the high water.
>also a pack of wild wolves shows up in flooded frozen nyc for some reason
You speedwatched, so I'll remind you there is multiple scenes of the local zoo - first with the wolves freaking out among the other animals with confused keepers noticing, then when the wolves escape their cages. The wolves that show up later on are those local zoo wolves that escaped the zoo.
>also it all melts in a few days and goes back to normal
That doesn't happen at all.
>>
>>221020889
>some weeks later
days*
I forget how long the story goes. Perspective jumps around, but I think it was only a week or two. The father's ice drive/ice march was a few days on top of the initial calamity.

It already did

It's also not how space works.

bring back weather apocalypse blockbuster movies
>>
>>221018396
I remember at the time how much it was criticized for it's inaccuracy as far as weather patterns and behaviors go, but I don't know anyone personally who's never seen it or outright hated it. Movies like these are what blockbusters used to be about. Now everything revolves around political tripe
>>
>>221021410
That's exactly how the atmosphere works tho
If you make it hotter on this side, or make it cooler from the other side, it's over
We literally have an atmosphere because of a perfect balance of hot and cold air
>>
>>221018396
I remember seeing the trailer for this movie and was super-excited to see it, as I kinda like movies about natural catastrophes and the fight for survival. However, this movie was so disappointing. Maybe my expectations were too high and should give it another try, since it's been so long since I saw it.
>>
>>221018642
>>221018396
No. The top layer of the atmosphere is heated by the sun, the same as the rest. Just because it's close to space doesn't make it super cold.
>>
>>221021410
>That's not how storms work.
Who knows, maybe in specific circumstances they do. The fact that heat bursts appear to exist makes me wonder what other kinds of highly localized high energy phenomenon can occur.

The move WAS political tripe, it just hid it a bit better than current year movies. As an action movie, it was meh, not terrible, not great, just meh. It had its moments but the pacing often was bad, because they were trying to push some ideological message wrapped up in clunky dialog. With a bit of rework, it could have been a fun summer blockbuster disaster movie.

I remember the author of this movie fearmongering on Art Bell's show when I had the flu. Good old days
