So the masculine white male action movie... flopped? I thought this is what Hollywood needed to get more audiences in theaters
>>
Masculine up front, gay in the rear. Many such cases. I don't watch any of them.
>>
Would rather let it die then to have them girlboss it and make He man a comedy relief in his own show. Seems to be a common theme, people just saying no to Hollyweirds bullshit these days. Love to see it.

I saw it wanting to like it and it was dogshit. There was no story or message or lesson, none of the characters had an arc or motivation or development, the performances were all over the place, half the movie you wouldnt get unless you spent your free time on whatdoyoumeme.com. It was designed to appeal to dorks who pretend to like he-man so they can pretend to fit in with other dorks who pretend to like he-man.

This. Blackwashed Man at arms, pants on Teela, girlbossing, Killing of King Randor, overboard of lame jokes. They did everything wrong except the look and people noticed very early on. Oh well.

It's funny that this is the first time I've heard of this movie.

>Blackwashed Man at arms, pants on Teela, girlbossing, Killing of King Randor,
None of this contributed to the movie being bad. The movie was bad with or without these decision, it was just a series of references thought up by Amazon board room researches designed to give the "fans" a product to consume rather than a producing a passion project or a piece of art. If you watched the trailer, you've seen everything you need to see, there's nothing more to the movie than that.

>no the biggest issue is that those relaunches keep trying to foist their own bullshit into something and then are surprised when people do want to see it, but STILL refuse to believe that its their bullshit that is keeping people away.

LOTR and capeshit (in the beginning) was stuff made by people who wanted to do the IP well, and the people were happy to see a decent movie. Conan the Barbarian was a pulp story and comicbook but they took the 1980 Conan movie seriously and it became a classic.

They COULD'VE tried to make a decent movie out of this but it was obvious to everyone that nobody gave a shit

>>
Amazon cares more about driving streaming and merch and licensing. Hollywood has been pushing franchises because they generate multiple revenue streams while a good R-rated comedy or drama mostly rely on theater and home video sales. They basically turned the movie theater into the 80s-90s Saturday morning cartoon block

not bait, go back. this is /tv/.
>>
>>221020233
I agree with the people who say it was "cowardly". Like the filmmakers are embarrassed to be making a He-man film, so they have to offset it by interjecting humour to kill the sincerity. It's the same thing the MCU has been doing for years and it's just pathetic. If you're ashamed of the IP, don't make a film adaptation. I'd personally rather watch the Dolph Lundgren one. At least that film isn't ashamed of what it is.
>>
>>221022493
When did /pol/ ask for a shitty he-man movie?
>>
>>221022761
No, that one was also ashamed of what it is, so 95% of the running time is spent on some random kids fucking around a random suburban neighborhood. Not to mention that it completely changed every single visual design associated with the source material.
The only thing that makes it palatable is nostalgia.
>>
Heman is a shitty cheap cartoon for the kids from the 80s. It doesn't warrant a movie.
>>
>>221020140
it's not a bad movie, and ironically, the first part is interesting because it's clearly a critique of the woke culture imposed from above, but it's also a clear unconditional surrender, further confirmed by the film's tone.

Still, i full agree that it's a coward film. Trying to keep everything lighthearted it's deliberately designed to sidestep the problem that "toxic masculinity" to not offend anyone. Ironically, in this historical period, a film meant to be taken just a little bit more seriously would have been a breaking point, even just for its courage.

The problem is that such a film would never have even gotten the green light in the first place.

The suburban setting was due to a tight budget in a pre-CGI world. The costumes also tried to translate the simple and flat cartoon designs into something that looked convincing in live-action on a theater screen. This was decades before Avengers 2012 made comic-accurate suits acceptable and way before the ironic James Gunn style like puffy red Superman underwear

this movie was gay as fuck, and felt like a decade too late. The time to make something like this was 2014 at the latest, when the series had reached it's thirty year cycle, and when superhero movies were still kinda fun and interesting to general audiences. I personally think it would be more fun to do a story like this in a pulpy, lower budget b-movie kinda way.

Yes it is, it left out the best character, Orko, (like the new one did apart from a credit scene after-thought) for fear of getting sued by Square Soft who they nicked his design from, then ditched the fantasy setting entirely to set it in some boring Yankee-doodle-dandy city.

The only reason you THINK its not ashamed is because by the time it came out the studio was past caring and had already written it off so there was no attempt to defend it. A shame because the casting was quite good, very similar to the 90s Super Mario Movie.

I don't really want to get into the weeds about it but I'm a massive gogga chud and I thought it was great. Its genuinely a shame it's flopping, I want a sequel really bad. It was Trinity syndrome on steroids. She'd clearly put in far more hours training and had spent the last 15 years in the rebellion, BUT after the initial scene with her saving him she took the backseat to a ridiculous degree. Sure he had no experience fighting and his plan was "walk right into the obvious trap, it'll work out" but she followed him anyway and was lucky to have a few moments fighting Evil-Lyn.

I mean, don't get me wrong, of COURSE he should be calling the shots, he's He-Man... except it was so badly written that it was kinda a problem that she DIDN'T girlboss over the dumbass manchild apologizing for naming himself "He-Man" when he was 10 years old.

I saw it. It was cringeworthy.
Pretty much the only time I laughed (despite them RELENTLESSLY trying to make jokes) was the "Son of a" "BREACH. HULL BREACH." "Damage report!" "...Breach of hull detected" bit.
I really wanted to like it too, but good Lord there was so much to cringe at. If the shockingly bad stuff had been contained to the Earth segment it wouldn't have been too bad, but it just kept going. Shame, I was rooting for this.

This movie is not on the level of Firefly or Buffy but it is better than Marvel in recent years.

Maybe, but what was the timing on them? Were they happening when he should've been devastated from the death of his dad? Were they bookended by painfully unfunny shit like Adam's roommate from Earth showing up? Was it part of a rapid-fire succession of quips that didn't let any one line have the room it needed to land properly? The movie couldn't figure out how serious it wanted to be, and suffered for it.

Netflix's She-Ra is the best thing to happen with MOTU since the original cartoons, and that's both amazing and depressing. Hell, the 2026 movie left the name "He-Man" for a joke right before the credits, with the whole gang wincing at how awful a name it is. Netflix She-Ra just got it over with and used the name throughout the show. CGI MOTU show started solid then nosedived, Kevin Smith show improved dramatically but "improved dramatically" doesn't erase the painful shit in the first few eps, 2002 just wasn't as good as the other reboots of the era, etc. etc.
This franchise is pretty cursed, honestly.

project sieg heil heil hitler I'm deise volk we can agree on is hyper plebbit.
then there are films that were good before but that plebbit latched onto, and which are then post-humously labelled plebbit despite not being, yet have been partly tainted by association.
contact is just a bit dull and feels like a nolan/villanerve thing, because it's empty, soulless and just about a woman talking to squids that shart on her.
not sure if it's plebbit enough but it's halfway there.
guardians of the galaxy is the biggest sõy plebbit there is.
there are some newfags though that try to claim films that were staples here are plebbit, but which only became popular with plebbit because of the human centipede effect of plebbit sucking all the pregested poo from our anuses.
fight club is one of them, and trannies deliberately target it because they want to undermine the core culture.

The funny thing is that while this is terrible marketing, the movie does address "toxic masculinity" in the true sense of the term. A character who becomes an alcoholic loser gets redeemed and it's pretty clear that him being an alcoholic is not a good or desirable thing. I guess Skeletor mistreats women(which is funny when he does it) and he is a good bad guy that you enjoy watching lose in the end. So in a way, they aren't wrong, it's just that saying shit like that in marketing is absolutely retarded today

and killing off the king is yet another sign of "death to the pay-tree-arky" kikery.
it's pathetic and they can't help themselves even when it's been shown tiem and time again that their propaganda is well known and everyone is tired of it.
no one wants to see girl boss cunts in burkas, no one wants to see blackwashed versions of beloved characters, no one wants to be subverted.
they don't want to see he-man as a drip on earth, earth doesn't exist.
they'll keep using these old things as a vector for their lies because the government pays them directly and making money isn't the purpose when they can just print it themselves.

DEEP CUT

The reason main characters used to be masculine and actually confident (like 80s He-Man) is because white people wrote those characters, and that's simply how they aspired to be or at least wanted their heroes to be.

The reason main characters in recent decades are always clumsy and incompetent, is because mainly Jews write them. And Jews see themselves as physically unimposing, insecure, not really good at much, fish-out-of-water in a white man's world.

Rewatch some of the classic 80s teenage comedies, and you'll see the same pattern again and again: the main character is a physically unimposing nerdy kid with dark hair and at least a semi-large nose, and he typically comes into conflict with the preppy, strong, popular kids (i.e. the majority whites in Western countries like the US), and comes out on top in the end.

Millennial here, I went to see it yesterday. It appealed to no one.
He-Man isn't relevant to anyone under the age of 50, and Gen-X isn't the dominant audience at the theater anymore. Gen-Z and younger Millennials are.
the bits where it shows Adam existing in a feminist HR longhouse shithole are clearly meant to be taking the piss out of it, but because it's modern Hollywood they can't fully appear to making fun of it and by holding back it makes it look like it's endorsing it or at the very least accepting it
the ending showing He-Man using therapy-speak on Skeletor that felt right out of fucking Steven Universe was cringe as fuck, even if it was part of a larger joke that he just needed to kick his ass and kill him (which he did), made it feel like the movie was validating being a pussy fag bitch.
every random call-back to the Saturday morning cartoon fell completely flat because outside of the minuscule Gen-X audience no one would understand it. the bit at the end where the gay red wizard thing gave a moral of the story, random quotes that make no sense but are clearly call-backs, and the bit at the end where everyone laughs awkwardly long are clearly references to the cartoon that didn't connect to anyone young in the audience.
I appreciate they let the bit with him and his dad breathe without undercutting it with Marvel quipping but they do too much of it throughout instead of just letting awesome shit look like awesome shit.

I had issues with the movie but anyone who's calling Teela a girl boss are revealing themselves to be terminally online dorks who watch Fandom Menace YouTubers
she saves Adam twice in the movie, once on Earth because he literally doesn't know who he is yet and again right after he becomes He-Man because he's still acclimating to being a nigh invulnerable demigod
once he leaves to go face Skeletor and they follow him, he's more or less leading the charge even after he briefly he depowered in the 3rd act
in the theater I was consciously thinking midway through the bit where he's on the bike "ok, him being a boob was funny at first but it's time to get it together" and almost immediately afterward is when he gets it together
I like the dynamic she has with her Dad especially when he reveals to He-Man "it's easier to let her think I'm a drunkard worth saving than a failure who couldn't save anyone" which is more complex than people are giving the movie credit for

They took a brand that was culturally relevant in the 80s and is mostly forgotten about now, and made a $200 million movie out of it. That feels very very misguided.

what's bizarre is that while you can see the budget on screen in terms of how great everything looks, the plot structure straight up feels like it's a "restrained" lower stakes movie
once they're back in Eternia with the sword, they go to one location before having a chase sequence and then they go directly to Skeletor
the first act setting He-Man up as a loser and grounding it on Earth needed to happen and I can't think of any unnecessary beats in it, but it just took way too fucking long and made the rest of the stuff off Earth feel disjointed
>>
>>221020140
This movie is Hollywood pandering to the loudest entertainment-related voices on social media: fandom youtubers for whom lore and source material is the single most important concern and feminists. It's why the former are suddenly excusing or overlooking the elements pandering to the latter. It's a good thing this flopped.
>>
>>221030139
They had to limit Eternia to keep the budget down, same issue as the 87 movie. Only Marvel can afford to go all out on budget, and even they can't really anymore except for Doomsday since they think it will bring them back to their peak (it wont).

If Hollywood were smart, then they'd do a King Arthur cinematic universe based around The History of the Kings of Britain, Le Morte De Arthur, and The Vulgate Cycle
>Season 1 - Rome abandons Britain, and as a result Britain is besieged by foreign invaders. The Pendragon Clan rises to power as powerful warriors who unite Britain and push back the invaders. Vortigern, an advisor, tricks the Pendragon Clan into accepting the help of foreign mercenaries to help them. Vortigern then uses the mercenaries to seize control of Britain and overthrow the Pendragon Clan. It backfires and after the Knight of Long Knives (the Arthurian version of the Red Wedding for the unaware), most of Britain's nobles and warriors are slaughtered, and Vortigern loses most of Britain to foreigners. End of Season 1.

Season 2 - Vortigern hears of a man named Merlin who they say is the son of the devil. Vortigern's druids tell him that if he sacrifices this man, then Vortigern can save Britain, and so he fetches Merlin, but before he can slay him, Merlin shocks him. He reveals that he can see the future, and that unlike the druids in Vortigern's court, Merlin can cast real magic. He exposes Vortigern's druids as frauds, and then tells Vortigern his future: Vortigern will die, and a Dragon (King Arthur) will rise up, slay the invaders, and expand Britain into a superpower. Vortigern stoically accepts his fate. Uther Pendragon arrives, kills Vortigern to avenge his family, then claims the throne of Britain. Uther then begins to wage war against the foreigners. He's competent, but he is no King Arthur.

Season 3: Uther is celebrating after a military victory. He sees Igraine, mother of Morgan Le Fey, and he instantly falls in love. But she is married and loyal to her husband so she rejects Uther's advances. Uther approaches Merlin and begs him to use his magic to help him. Merlin agrees, but he tells Uther that he will only do if it Uther allows Merlin to raise his firstborn

Season 3: Uther agrees and so Merlin casts a spell to make Uther look like Igraine's husband. Uther then travels to her castle and fucks her while her husband is out on campaign. The next day, Uther leaves, and Igraine receives a letter that her husband has died on campaign...which should be impossible because Igraine believes she just slept with him last night. Igraine realizes she was raped and that magic was probably involved to fool her. This sets the stage for Morgan and Morgause (sister to Morgan) to resent the Pendragon family for what they did to her mother and her father. Merlin arriving and taking the baby would also make Morgan resent Merlin as well. Uther would die shortly after in battle, having failed to unite Britain, but still having died beloved. And so Merlin took his sword (Caliburn) and drove it into stone. He told the church and the nobles of the Britain that the heir of Uther would be able to draw this sword. Timeskip. Arthur, raised by Merlin and a peasant family, would draw the sword from the stone and then unite Britain. He would purge the court of corruption and rebels (such as Sir Lot), and then drive out the invaders of Britain, and then create Camelot. Around this time, Morgause would also seduce Arthur, taking advantage of the fact that Arthur didn't know that she's his sister. The child of this union would be...Mordred

Season 4: Arthur would begin to expand ourwart and form his round table. His sister, Morgan, would join the court as an "advisor". Arthur would marry Guinevere, and meet his legendary knights including Lancelot. Arthur would fight Lancelot in battle after Lancelot challenged his authority and tried to block his army. Lancelot would best Arthur until Arthur drew out the full power of Caliburn to drive Lancelot back. The full power of caliburn would shatter the sword. And like in the movie Excalibur, the Lady of the Lake would gift Arthur a new sword, Excalibur.

no ezra is an unironic faggot with well known info about him sucking off producers for roles
>>
>>221030867
Right. The rest of the budget besides actor salaries still seems big enough that one would think they went all out with it. It's equal to or bigger than a number of Marvel movies

Season 4 continued: Lancelot, out of respect for Arthur's power and honor, would join Arthur and the Round Table would be complete. Cracks would begin to form in the Round Table though, especially between the sons of Sir Lot, who Arthur had slain when he united Britain, and the sons of Pelinore, who had aided in the overthrow of Sir Lot and his rebellion. Gawain would stand at the head of the Sir Lot faction, and Lamorak would stand at the head of the Pellinore faction. Lancelot and Tristan would drift towards Lamorak, and Mordred, Agravain, and Garis would drift towards Gawain. If you're not aware of these names, they're just Arthur's best Knights.

Season 5 - Conflict would explode after Lamorak sleeps with Morgause to spite the Lot faction, because Gawain, Mordred, Agravain, and Garis are all sons of her. The brothers would team up, murder Lamorak, and then cover it up, representing the first fracture in the round table. Meanwhile, Lancelot would fall in love with Guinevere, but his loyalty to Arthur would lead to him staying chaste. Simultaneously, Tristan would be in a love plot with a foreign princess that would end with him being poisoned. Meanwhile, Arthur would begin to look into the murder of Lamorak but after realizing that Gawain, his nephew may be involved, he would overlook it and turn a blind eye to it.

And you could just keep going on and on. I'm gonna stop here, but the Arthurian lore is rich enough for you to get 10-15 seasons or 30+ movies out of it. The intrigue is game of thrones tier too, so there's no need to add a modern spin or any "subversion"

This is like when mouse jeets tried to convince people that Solo bombed because it starred a White male (which also isn't true, it was a jewish dwarf)

No

I actually saw the movie cause it had good word of mouth, but it was always going to flop. No one under the age of 40 gives a single shit about He-man, as I'm sure has already been said in this thread a hundred times.
>>
>>221029459
That's right. I watched He-Man as a kid and played with the toys but when TMNT and Batman became popular I forgot about it and haven't thought about it since. It was just a very thin goofy action show for little kids. I wasn't even really interested in the 80s movie when that came out and I was the target demographic.

>white male superior race aryan SIEG HEIL chad with an intelligence so superior to anyone else
>movie bombs despite being actually decent
Explain this chuddies. I thought you said the while male race was going to make this movie succeed.
>>
>>221031255
Why do they have to do that? Just play it straight.
>>
>>221033395
You just have low standards. Hollywood writing is insultingly dumb.
