Given the rise of A24 self-serious slowburn horror, I definitely think a general mockery of a mishmash of those plotlines could've been a good, timely(ish) plot for SM6, especially since the overarching plot for 1 was, as you said, riffing on the group of targeted suburban teens horror that was popular at the time.
