Some individual elements are excellent, like Heath Ledger’s Joker. But the films as a whole have always struck me as BORING, pretentious, and pseudo-intellectual.The same goes for Zimmer’s "music". It’s just dull ambient sound built around a couple of notes. I can’t remember a single melody he’s written, except for one theme from Gladiator. Meanwhile, soundtracks by other composers, such as John Williams and Ennio Morricone, are recognizable from the very first notes.
Before any debate begins just be fully aware that you are completely correct and any dissenting views are merely devil's advocacy.
>>221044157Elevated mediocrity will always be most pleasing to the masses. That being said, if watching The Dark Knight Rises as a young teenager didn't make you want to be like Batman, Deshi Basara chant on full blast, then there's something very wrong with you.

>>221044157Nolan switching to Ludwig Göransson as his go-to composer wasn't exactly an improvement. I don't remember hearing any memorable pieces on his score to Oppenheimer.
>>221044157>why are Nolan and Zimmer held in such high regardThey make stuff that "casual" film fans really like or love. If you don't "overthink" about Nolan flicks, they are fine and entertaining. If you approach them like a film nerd, as if he made the films with the artistic touch, attention to detail, and intelligence of a Michael Mann/Kubrick type director? You're going to be very disappointed. more or less. It's that simple. He takes a cerebral concept, splashes it on an outline, forces a few big actors into it, writes some half-crazy dialogue, films it dully, and Zimmer inserts ebic sounds. Wala! 1 billie$$$
Because you're a massive pseudo intellectual midwit that is projecting on the movies. They're held in high regards because they appeal to the mainstream and one must be an incredibly disingenuous retard to think Hans Zimmer has not written a lot of recognizable soundtracks.
>>221044986The Reviled Ridley did something akin to this 26 years ago and it looks 1000 times better, sounds much better too. Villenueve just sucks. I kind of wish I was just trying to be an asshole, but that just looks like a commercial (for god knows what) or a game cut seen. I wonder what the persons in the top of the arena think about the little dots down below playing with knives lol.
>>221045126>chudsphere who then suddenly decided his movies are bad nowTDKR was made FOURTEEN years ago. He hasn't done anything good in FOURTEEN years. >>221045958Tenet easily
he was a generational run with batman begins to dunkirkof course he sucks now but know he has it in him to make good movies
>>221044157Have said this for years. Nolan is a film school student hack who has lots of prestige that he can do his own thing without people tampering with it.He is selling his movies with 'ideas', not with competent storytelling, writing, directing - or whatever. This is how film students work, they have idea they think is million bucks. There's no interesting shot in any of his films, no good scene that builds into another, no interesting directing. His movies are full of amateur mistakes and baffling choices, he really does not know what he is making. His early films were his best easy. He's the director for midwits like Lynch, who is also 'idea guy', but at least Lynch provides some interesting visuals and he remembers that movies are AUDIO VISUAL.t. screenwriter
I really wonder if there is anyone on this board who remembers the campaign for The Dark Knight, that movie was truly massive and arguably one of the most influential movies of the last 2 decades
>>221044157>>221044412Hating on Nolan is the first sign of a wannabe letterboxd cinephile, let me guess I should watch some crap by French or Jewish pedos instead
>>221046650The prestige is kino though, but after that he's getting sloppy in direction and never bother to push the actors for better acting. The case in TDKR is the most blatant shit that Nolan didn't give a damn about acting as long as they spew the dialogue he wrote
>>221046749>let me guess I should watch some crap by French or Jewish pedos instead
I don't get why people rate Dunkirk so low, I thought it was a well made movie and it was nice to see him do more grounded films without any gimmicks

Zimmer peaked with the pirates of the caribbean soundtrack and Nolan with the dark knight
>>221044157Zimmerman deserves everything for having written Light for The Thin Red Line,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgsqdt5IdLYand for using the electric guitar (thought it was probably the second composer Johnny Marr) for Inception's theme at the end of the movie.https://youtu.be/XQPy88-E2zo?t=94That shit was nothing short of genius and single handedly proves the guitar still has its place in music despite young people veering towards edm and the like.
>>221047818Very unimpressive music.
I thought the idea of telling a story backwards was cool in Memento but it didn't really do anything interesting or memorable with it, unlike a movie like Peppermint Candy where you at least learn more about why the main character is the way they are the further you go back. In The Prestige, I kinda assumed he had a twin as soon as he appeared in the woman's apartment after being out in the hallway, that's simply not physically possible, and I was a little disappointed that that was a major revelation in the movie. The Dark Knight is still fun if you don't take it too seriously, it does have some great individual moments. Most everything after that is just crazy overrated midwit shit that's evangelized by boomer dads who think they're geniuses for watching something slightly more cerebral than Captain America (Inception, Interstellar, etc.). Also, as a German speaker, I had no clue he was trying to speak German in the classroom in that one scene in Oppenheimer, I assumed it was Dutch because it sounded so fucking weird (no offense).
>>221044157I said it once and ill say it again: TENET FUCKING SUCKED

>>221047939It was "Plot Holes the Movie" with the way they selectively handled entropy: some things/events went backwards like a gun shots, but obviously the punches and the kicks were never reversed in the fight scenes could that would look & be retarded and make no sense in plotting). He needed a better explanation & rules for how this plot device works because it just seemed to follow "rule of cool" rather than remain consistent and realistically annoying (for the audience) to deal with.
Millennials saw TDK when they were 20 and it was the most profound experience of their life so they had to uplift Nolan to deity status and also Nolanify all other media franchises to be as intellectual and grown up as TDK was for Batman.

Nolan made 2 GOAT movies (Memento, The Prestige) and then nothing but slop for 20 years. Unfortunately, those 2 movies were so good they've allowed him to maintain a high profile career ever since.

Ive only liked prestige and maybe some of first batman. Nolan has workshop, hes good from technical point of view, but didnt show anything beside being mediocre aaa director in the last +15yInception?Movie about dreams that ends up as a 1h shootout. So much stuff could be done in dreamscape, not only perspective shifts, people share the same elements, fears and things in dreams and almost none of it was in it.Intersetllar?Again, the movie couldve been so much more, but it was shallow when it came to showing xeno/space stuff. The ending was just bananas in the bad way.Tenet?Horrible movie, worst of nolans. I really cant think about any good part beside pattison.Nolan is taking cool concept, cosuming it with hollywood spam and delivering a smelling turd. Its stragne because those concepts are really good, like I see all the potential and how grand those movies could be. But unfortunetly hes a hack and hes gonna turn every good idea into slopy mess.
