What differentiates it is that it actually focuses on the protagonist's development and he doesn't puss out and get shown up by a bitchy woman the whole movie. There is a very distinct moment in the movie where I went "alright that was all fun and good with the MC being goofy and bad at fighting but lets get serious now" and it actually did get serious. I'm an Xillenial, and grew up with He-Man and loved the franchise. After Kevin Smith violently raped the franchise, I went in with expectations of the same.One of the worst case scenarios, they lean into the grim worldbuilding that exists. Post apocalyptic alien landscapes with eldritch cosmic horrors, killer robots and dark sorcery. An equally bad scenario, they lean into the jokey 80s Saturday morning cartoon vibe and make it too self-aware. It's just a hard tightrope to walk with sloppa on both sides.Instead it got it exactly right. There's blood and violence, humor, He-Man doesn't get overshadowed by Teelah, Skeletor is menacing and humorous. They hit every note exact. Even the self-aware shit like the group laugh at the end felt less like them mocking the IP and more like an in-joke for people who love the IP.

The self referential humor was good as well I agree. There really isn't a part where they look at the camera and go "come on guys, isn't this all really silly" and instead the humor feels like they are laughing with the fans. Like "isn't this silly but also, fuck it why can't it be cool as well." The action scenes were great and felt weighty and not just CGI slop which was nice. The end fight was fantastic. Honestly the entire end sequence is perfect
