AJ was ahead of his time
AL'S not the first character to be depressed and a half-hearted lib on television, he's just the easiest to relate to because he's probably around your age and of sub-normal intelligence
>>221047925AJ was actually the "smartest" character despite his seeming malapropisms (similar to Lil Carmine); he was a "dumb" psychic or perhaps even pneumatic, to Meadow's "smart" (120 IQ but profoundly incapable of "learning") hylic and all the other characters' dumb hylic
ALS? NOBODY’S GOT ALS! I DON’T WANNA HEAR THAT ACRONYM AGAIN!

>>221048280Listen to him, he knows everything
>>221048388You just reveal your own ignorance
>>221048280Wis. vs Int.
>>221048280AJ would grow up to be one of those straight up commie "fuck pigs fuck imperialism fuck everything" leftist while Meadow is your typical kamala democrat leftist
>>221048409Surround shound, fuckin amazin; it's like mulignans are sittin right dere in the house
>>221048458Meadow is a "good" psychopath, you know the type that never quite actually does any crimes but would still fuck over anyone as long as it's "socially ok", so maybe
>>221048280Hyliccels SEETHING from this post
>>221048280You're right, the important thing is that the insecure low IQ loser AJ has a functioning moral compass and the ability to question things while the outspoken, intelligent teacher's pet type Meadow is really nothing but an empty shell regurgitating platitudes and ends up being another soulless husk making excuses like her parents.
he was the original 4 chan
>>221048280what
>>221048280literally me
>>221048280No, AJ is a manipulative and performative piece of shit. He doesn't care about anything he says, it's just a performance to manipulate people. He starts in season one when he talks about philosophy, but the moment someone else shows interest he drops it because it's just a superficial attempt at profundity. All his 'sorrow for the world' in the final seasons is just manipulation. He doesn't care, he even wants to join the army at the end. He is is grandmother through and through. Meadow is the empathetic one.
>>221048280if AJ was gonna be anywhere on that spectrum he'd definitely be a hylic like the rest of them. he had zero sense of spiritual awareness and his arc at the end where he was getting all depressed at the state of the world and reading books amounted to nothing because he didnt fucking learn from it, which its funny you say that about meadow but not AJ. at the end of the series he was still an emotionally weak bitch crying he couldnt go into hiding from people trying to literally murder his dad because he was just starting to 'maintain'. not to mention he blew up his car trying to fuck a 16/17 yr old girl during this time when they were you know, trying to lay low in a secret cabin lmao. and he ended how started, driving a car daddy bought him to pick up his high school GF, and got a gig his mommy and daddy got him working for carmine on 'movies' (he basically only makes porn besides cleaver). aj learned absolutely nothing at the end of the series, and he was a piece of shit form beginning to end, his character isnt redeemed or suddenly this enlightened character just because you losers can relate to him
>>221048601No, Tony hates him because he's "him" (complete with the actual questioning of his actions, Tony still has part of a "moral" person left, hence the panic attacks) but "weak" enough to not want to get "involved" in violence and corruption (though with him getting hooked up with Carmine that point may now be moot)Meadow meanwhile shits and moans about "crime bad" then immediately flip flops immediately to "socioeconomic factors they wuz good bois" while massively reaping all the rewards while being safely "insulated"
>>221048280>he was a "dumb" psychic or perhaps even pneumatic
>>221048730>hylic, psychic, pneumatic>it's gnostic, it's gnositcism shit
>>221047925Have you guys been to his annual party?
>>221048280He was the identified case. He was blamed by a crazy household for being the one to try and be normal
>>221048280>malapropismsTony does those all the time too, quite often when trying to quote Melfi, and all that entrails. His just aren't as blatantly wrong as Carmine's.
>>221048791>entrailsWell we wouldn't want to leave any loose ends hanging about would we
Fumbled hard
I know the secret of the Seven Souls intro of s6 and the deeper connections to the ending. I’ve read the source material of the song, which David Chase said he always wanted to include since the beginning, as the author there is one of Chase’s main inspirations. Go on, ask me about it
>>221048791Tony's are somehow dumber now that you mention it, like Carmine at least comes off like he tried to learn something but it came out arse-backwards, whereas Tony>A mofo or some shitLike he couldn't actually be fucked to try understand and it's purely a useful soundbite he heard
>>221048549I don't know if you're being an ass, but actually yeah it's probably the presence of a soul rather than "intelligence" that actually is "maladaptive" in the environment he's in, and leads to him being "paralysed in retardation" whereas those with the actual maladaptive coping strategies or complete lack of morals allows them to "succeed" in that environmentAJ unironically was a gud boi affected by socioeconomic factors, and perhaps his lack of action is subconciously protecting his soul
>>221048915Well his lack of action most certainly has saved his life during the show
Recall that Tony feels like a fucking softie loser because he’s unwilling to kill civilian niggers like his father had
>>221047925Never watched sopranos, is this Borat line real? Thats hilarious if so. Was it played up for comedy or was it supposed to be an actually emotional remark.
>>221048656you're delusional if you think AJ doesnt commit the same hypocrisies. he cries about the inequality in the world but constantly benefits from daddy's money (and he happily takes the money and gifts with 0 hesitation), and he beat the shit out of that somali kid while crying about 'why cant we all just get along' in the scene right after, it was classic tony. Meadow did 10x more for the inequality in the world through all her volunteer work, and even if it was for her career, the actions provided good fruit in the world compared to AJ. Seriously, what good has AJ done in the world or even WANETD to do in the world? even wanting to join the army was all about him, he just wanted to pickup a gun and feel like a badass.
>>221048940Its real and the shown is constant comedy superimposed over drama and crime
>>221048943AJ doesn’t KILL NOBODY! He’s not out there shooting prostitutes in the head and dumping asbestos into the river! He’s something of a bum but he wants to be an artist, ok?Sheeeesh
>>221048280
So nobody fucking cares about the seven souls intro, is that it?

>>221050626He's basically just saying AJ was the only one capable of self reflection on any level and resisting social pressures, even if he comes off as a little dumb. Even if he uses a schizo dialect, it's not the same thing as saying it's all because he was born in June or some shit
>>221050534>>221050700>>221050509Anyway, I was merely funposting, go ahead and drop your knowledge
>>221050712why did he try to kill himself then??
>>221048943All this post was was wanting to feel badass and smart. The AJ soprano is here
>>221050712Thank you for translating from schizo to English for me (unironically)Yes AJ might be a dumb typical loser 20 something, but his passivity is likely because he on some level is aware that shit is wrong, genuinely internalises it instead of protecting himself like Meadow or Carmella with a pretty lie, and is conflicted because he at least attempts to take a look at himself - being torn between "you fuckin loser AJ you don't regularly kill people like me t.Tony" and not wanting that sort of life, while also being told "you're not allowed do any of that shit anyway"
>>221047925This is how I feel watching Nathan Fielder's shows
>>221050757He was making a move, he had to get it on
>>221050757Because he has no roadmap for a successful life that he knows isn't wrong (and he has the capacity to actually feel bad about it, instead of just doing it anyway like Meadow). And because he's kind of stupid
>>221050786Fielder ? It's a fuckin nickname, his name was Meadow
>>221048867Yeah carmine usually knew what he wanted to get acrossTony was straight up trying to sound cultured and whiffing hard while doing it
>>221050820>Too rich for menial work>Too average for his ambitions>Great expectations>Huge wealth differential amongst him vs the elite>Respect from others purely due to his fawthaHonestly he was written to be lacking place and purpose in the world
>>221050952he sounds just like me except that I'm poor, a NEET and my parents kind of hate me (I don't blame them)my higher empathy makes me depressed, gives me decision paralysis and that makes me a lazy loser
>>221048280>this post
>>221048790Never heard that particular turn of phrase but it was a less extreme version of the scapegoat/black sheep/strawman phenomenon in NPD families, yes
>>221050571stay mad aj
>>221048280You said this in a weird schizo way but i understand what you mean, AJ was much more introspective and self aware whereas Meadow just regurgitated shit she heard elsewhere and ran on emotion and cognitive dissonance. I wouldn't want to be friends with either but I'd choose AJ over her.
>>221052329He was textbook "woah im 16 and this is deep" pseud with a lot of the shit he spewed out but it's clear he was trying to perform some genuine self-discovery and reflection. He was also probably nowhere near as stupid as he immediately comes off, just every single thing he says in invalidated (even if it is an actual fact that occured on screen) so he doubts and discards and finds something else to latch onto.
>>221050717It's Western Lands by William S Burroughs, and the actual text he's really only using this Seven Souls metaphor to talk about his drug-ruined failing body and if his dead wife and son will be nice to him in Hell. More importantly, he talks about 'Ren' the secret name, and that this 'corresponds to my director', 'when you die, that's where Ren came in'. When Tony dies, 'Directed by David Chase' comes in. (Burroughs actually identifies as director of his own life and is making a sick joke about how his evil fucking soul will go back to heaven and ruin more lives). Beyond that, in the Egyptian mythology, cats help bring your soul to and guide you through the afterlife (also discussed heavily in the book), notice they installed a really cool Tiger mural in Holsten's. Like something you might see on a screen in an Indian restaurant in Panama. The treacherous Ba is, hopefully obviously, a literal heart attack. Notable that Tony's vessel, James Gandolfini, died of a heart attack. Beyond all this and more connections, David Chase is openly inspired by this author, who talks a lot about 'life-films' and collective consciousness. All things that are very, very prevalent throughout the Sopranos I basically read this author because of how mesmerizing this sequence was, and I do not regret it. It's been awesome and quite mind expanding,
All to say, that David Chase dropped his main inspiration into the finale of his show and if you read these works (which is not easy), you can see exactly what Chase is doing.
Oh and because apparently I won't just shut up, the entire last season is Tony's walk through the Land of the Dead (he meets ghosts, doubles, treachery, body failure) so that's directly the metaphor happening here. You can arguably say, Tony is already dead throughout all of season 6 (and don't take me for some literalist hick, you know its surrealism)
Also the scores on the tiger mural, 38/22, are caliburs
AJ's doomscrolling/depression storyline is too real
>>221048458>>221048515don't forget that the whole war started because Meadow wanted her dad to beat the a guy almost to death after he drunkenly hit on her.
>>221052988interruption of a life script leads to indulgence in ersatz bullshit. running someone else's film on your life screen
>>221053018How profound, Dr. Thesaurus.
>>221053002Don't forget Meadow killed her dad by gossiping for fucking fun that Vito sucked a dick when Finn told her that terrified and with a complete vow of confidence, flaming the war with Phil and causing the total fucking liquidation of the Jersey leadership by willful design of the New York familys
>>221048280He takes after his muhda. Extremely vapid and small like his grandfather. A gust of wind could blow him over
>>221048280ikwym but ishyd talk like that irl
>>221048601>performativeWhich influencer taught you people this word? You've been using it non stop lately.
>>221048601>Blah blah I didn't watch the showWrong. AJ starts as the caring one, then gradually realizes his parents do the opposite of what they teach him. Then he tries to get their validation, failing all the time. In the meantime he gets depression. Then his last attempt of getting away (military school) fails and he gets rewarded for failing. By that point he surrenders and becomes like his father (his last therapy session).AJ "performative" side is to impress people, not to manipulate them. At worst, it's him trying to find an identity. At least until the last part of the last season. The real manipulator is Meadow.
>>221054342Were you that faggot who posted his screenplay on /int/? The guy you're replying to didn't call your writing performative, I did. And I don't think influencers use words that can confuse Joe Doomscroller
>>221054476Meadow's fucking behind the whole Vito hit! She killed everybody!!!

>>221055137No. People just thought of it as a long Jackass skit, and thought it was funny. I'm sure you could find an article or two talking about exactly what they wanted, but that hardly reflects people's sentiments.
