Thoughts on Psycho II?Personally, I was surprised at how good it was for a sequel that came out nearly 25 years later. Anthony Perkins' acting in the first one was ahead of its time and while he wasn't as compelling in II, he still killed it.Fun fact: Meg Tilly and Diane Franklin were both on the shortlist to play Mozart's wife in Amadeus, a part that ultimately went to fellow /hor/fu Liz Berridge.

I watched "Caveat" last night and didn't like it. What the hell is wrong with Damian McCarthy? Visuals and atmosphere were good, but such a bleak story. I guess that arsehole writer Ohm in Hokum was really a self-insert. Also Caveat was barely a horror movie. It had the dead mother spooking the uncle in the end, OK.I just hope Isaac lets that murderous niece starve when he leaves the island and finally solves the problem of the insane family forever.

Just finished. Man, anon wasn't kidding, this has TONS of nudity. But boy it's a chore to sit through. Very little happens to justify its 100 minute runtime, it should be at least 20 minutes shorter. But every fucking female character gets named, and there's lots of bongo drumming. Some parapsychologist and her brother she has the hots for end up at some castle and there's all kinds of rigamaroll about bloodlines and revenge for some reincarnated vampire queen and the stars lining up and who gives a shit. Feels like one of Jean Rollin's worse flicks. My first Joe Sarno; I thought I'd seen some of his stuff before but I think I had him mixed up with Radley Metzger. Some of these girls are harsh looking too.
>>221063006> But boy it's a chore to sit through.Don’t bother then. Lifes too short and there are too many good movies to watch.
>>221063065You don't know until you see it. And some of these don't get good until the end. I never turn anything off until it's over, life's not as short as you think.
>>221063155Bruh. The days are short. Life is short. I do nothing all day since I don’t work and there still isn’t enough time in a day.
>>221063212why don't you work
>>221063065>Lifes too shorthopefully yours is grem
>>221061641>AvengementSounds like they're running out of words for action films
>>221063155Or maybe I just live a very leisurely lifestyle. I was watching the guy mow my lawn and it felt like he was done in a few minutes but before when I was mowing it, it felt like 40 minutes. I am not going to sit through a movie I don’t enjoy when my entire day is focused on leisure. There isn’t a need to sit through something you don’t want to.
>>221063212I don't play video games, I think that gives me an edge. And also all I do at work is watch movies so I'm privileged. Just realized >>221063006 was accidentally in line with the OP, the plot such as it is is about a brother and sister who want to fuck each other.
>>221063224I’m not working class. >>221063226My life’s not grim. What? I just said it is leisurely.
>>221061333>Spooky Siblings
>>221063252> And also all I do at work is watch movies so I'm privileged.Had student jobs like that and it was still a waste of time.
>>221062559>barely a horror movie.
>>221063287how has nobody thought of this before. van helsing you're fired
>>221063252>video gamesWhy? They are fun. I only have so much time and energy for each activity each day. A millionaire and billionaire all have the same amount of time. There are only 24 hours in a day.
>>221062298you need to add this pronto
>>221063252I find that when you actually own your own time, you value it more. I can totally understand very wealthy hiring a person for every job. Even cooking and cleaning dishes feels below me and doing laundry also. Any physical work feels lowly. Today, I pulled weeds for like 10 minutes and I felt terrible. Anything that is work feels lower class. You will understand when you retire.
>>221062298So that wasn't you that posted the longer list last thread. Go check that out. Also re-suggesting X-Ray and The Howling 2.Adding Embrace Of The Vampire. The puppies must be really suffocating cuz Alyssa lets them out to breath every chance she can. The remake was way disappointing in that regard.
>>221063290Fine. It had the creepy picture that turned itself around and the dead mother spooking in the cellar. But rather than horror I'd classify it as drama/thriller because it's mainly about Isaac being trapped/chained with that murderous psychotic armed niece in the house.
>>221063306Lol, not this specific thing, but the same guy actually says "why didn't anyone think of this before" when it comes to how they beat them they set all the clocks back so the vampires don't realize the sun will be coming up earlier than they expect, lol
>>221063346>I pulled weeds for like 10 minutes and I felt terribleAmazing the amount of embarassing shit you post on here. Stop spamming replies.
>>221063346I feel better after doing chores. Like they say in AA, "mood follows action."
>>221063381Dude, when you make it you will understand. It is hard to explain. Anything that isn’t leisure or relaxing is work. If you work, you don’t even know what “life” is.
>>221063373This and Poison Ivy 2 were a big part of my childhood wank awakening, lol(my Awankening.)
>>221063379Also the wabbit going off. I agree that it's really got the feeling of a thriller though because the plot is driven more by the relationship info.
>>221063392Not at all. But I get what you mean but you only think that because you don’t live a life of leisure. Imagine you’re on a permanent vacation but you have to mow lawns and wash dishes.
>>221063421Actually you're just a fucking asshole. I'm 1000% certain on this.
>>221063373I remember thinking this was intolerably boring when I saw it on TV as a teen. Now that I'm more inoculated to shitty films maybe it isn't as bad as I remember. The topless lesbian scene got some replays on the VCR though.
>>221063392My last post to you was very good.> Imagine you’re on a permanent vacation but you have to mow lawns and wash dishes. That description was really good. I always wondered if I was “lazy” but I know I am not lazy. Most people don’t live leisurely lives except for I don’t know, the rich, so most people have so much stress and work that it is the norm.
>>221063421Nobody cares about your desperate off topic whining for attention faggot.
>>221063444I rewatched it relatively recently and was surprised how prudish it is. The message ends up being Don't Be a Ho and she never even does anything that crazy.
>>221063411Yes, right. The toy rabbit also had two or three scenes. It was probably only in there because McCarthy has a thing with rabbits or hares.I liked "Hokum" better, even though I've criticized its inconsitencies. I also watched Oddity, but that was two years ago and it didn't make a strong impression on me. With the other McCarthy films it shares that it's set in Ireland, that the visuals and cinematography are very good, but that the story is pretty bleak.
>>221063474Have you seen his youtube channel?https://www.youtube.com/@millerkarras/videosHas a handful of short films he made before Caveat, but the essential one is He Dies At The End. One of the first viral horror videos on the net.
>>221063443> Imagine you’re on a permanent vacation but you have to mow lawns and wash dishesDoes that help? Does that change your perspective? When your life is 40 hour work week, 5 out of 7 days at work, stress and work and life are one and the same. When you live a life of leisure, chores are literally called chores btw. At least movies are abundant and free.
>>221063443Meh, not many people get to actually live so you would not understand. >>221063459We are talking about movies and how life and work and how there are not enough hours in a day for relax and watch /hor/

You know how I know for a fact that you're an asshole? Because these threads are about horror movies but all you do is talk about your parents buying you property. Nobody asked and nobody cares, and only a fucking piece of shit ashore would keep bringing it up. And in top of that berate anonymous strangers about wasting time on movies when all he's doing is shitposting on 4chan.Burn in hell, you worthless whore.
>>221063545> Because these threads are about horror moviesThat’s what they were talking about. Horror movies and how life is too short to sit through garbage movies.
>>221063491>He Dies At The EndThanks, I will check it out. But I think for now I've seen enough of McCarthy in the last few days. I love the atmosphere and the visuals, but I've had enough of those absolutely bleak plots. Maybe I'll wash my palate with some campy 80s teen slasher flicks or with some Hammer films.
>>221063581It's only a few minutes long. The other one I recommend is Hungry Hickory, you can see where he developed the visual idea for the horse eared guy in Hokum.
>>221063545> And in top of that berate anonymous strangers about wasting time on movies when all he's doing is shitposting on 4chan.That dumb ass said the movie was a bore to sit through. So why bother finishing it? Clearly he doesn’t respect his own time. I turn shit off I don’t like it. > wasting time I value my time enough to do only watch what I like. We would not be having this discussion if you didn’t say the movie was hard to watch. Idiot.
>>221063545That fucking retard watches movies on a laptop at work also. Shitty speakers and a laptop at work. What an insult to the genre.
I think doing nothing all day has turned this retard's brain into mush. Hopefully somebody breaks into his house and kills him.
>>221063617I think you are a loser. There isn’t enough time in a day. Go make better use of it instead of sitting through shitty movies.

>>221062559McCarthy is good at setting up good horror moments, but not great at putting it together in a feature length movie with a compelling story. A lot of the good parts of caveat, or Oddity feel like they would be better as a short, but the movies are still decent and I think he's improving on that.I think Caveat is a bit of a silly movie, but the last 10 or 15 minutes in the basement is great. It's not original and literally just a 'who was phone' moment but the drywall saw switcharoo is peak.
Hey anon whatcha doin'?
>>221064662Cute!
>>221064606Have you seen Hokum already? What you say reminds me of what the writer protagonist in Hokum does. He writes about a conquistador who's in the Abu Dhabi desert for unknown reasons and accompanied by a small boy. The conquistador follows a map that he keeps in a corked bottle (why ever?) and that leads to a conundrum and a conflict later on. It's an interesting setup and visually stunning and the conflict is real, but it's not connected to a story. You have something that you might put in a snow globe or a 4 minute video, but that's essentially it. I thought the writer character in Hokum might be a self insert for McCarthy.
>>221064662I would have shot up out of bed like a rocket and sprung at her swinging. I know because I have night terrors that make me do that.
>>221064662Jerkin it to you, now hold still and let me finish.

>>221064662we need a hq torrent so some decent webms can be made
Just finished. Basically perfect. So perfect that you don't even need to watch it, lmaoIt's a classic folktale told with perfect efficacy, you know how it's going to end five minutes into it. If you've seen Tales From the Darkside the Movie, it's exactly the same as the gargoyle story. in the meantime, you get perfect visuals and perfect performances. Everything about this is pitch perfect, even the 79 minute runtime. There's no narrative tension because you know exactly what's going on and what will happen, but none of that matters. This is like seeing a great performance of a piece of classical music, you're going to get no surprises but you are going to get impeccable artistry. For /film/fags. Loved it.
>>221064829What a great poster.>>221064918I like the muddiness here, makes it creepier.
>>221064928Ok this has convinced me to check it out. I've already seen Kwaidan and that includes that story.
>>221064918Honestly for spooky things I prefer the low quality shitty ones. Watching Lake Mungo on youtube with shitty quality where the stuff in images only slowly resolved as you zoomed in was much better than watching the proper rip where you see a photo and just immediately clock the crisp ghostly figure you're supposed to see.
>>221064740Fairly certain the conquistador segments are only in the movie to get UAE funding by filming there. Doubt they were an afterthought but I also doubt they were part of the original script.
>>221064918its amazing what losing even a little bit of weight can do for your face. she's still hot here but it takes her from like a 7 to a 9
>>221064966Sure, I was pointing out the similarities between the conquistador desert scene and McCarthy's films. The setup and the scenery are great, but that's it. In Hokum the author of that conquistador book even gets told his stories are "too bleak" - another similarity.
>>221064928The Kwaidan version is probably better for most people since it's much briefer, though I imagine if this was your first exposure to the story and you (potentially) didn't know where it was going, it'd knock your socks off, lol. It's hard to recommend since it is so slavish to the source material, but I suppose if it appealed to you anyway it's worth your time. Hope you like it.

>>221065348The Deadly Spawn could be on that
>>221065348The Gate. I think you should call your subgenre something different, though, there's an 80s movie called Strange Invaders that I don't think fits your specs and I'm reminded of that instead.
