He-Man being something kids aren't interested in is not the reason the movie flopped. No one knew or cared about a C-list superhero like Iron Man before 2008. The marketing for the movie leaned in way too heavily on the movie being an adaptation of the 80s cartoon, for fans of the 80s cartoon. I think every trailer included footage of the Filmation show playing on a CRT monitor, because "remember the 80s?" That limits the movie's appeal. They should've market it as a sci-fi fantasy movie.
