Movies for men flop because men don't go to movie theaters anymore
Michael, Prada, wuthering heights
they all have one thing in common - female audience

because none of the shit you claimed is true, kevin smith killed interest in the IP with his dogshit remake, the trailers were full of woke shit and cheap CGI, he-man is a bloated shrimp who didn't properly cut for the film, the costumes are worse than cosplay costumes, there was not reason for this to be set on earth,...

No way to make an action/adventure/fantasy successful?

Gays have claimed he-man for decades even while acknowledging he's straight. They just like how everyone in MOTU is buff and shirtless

your average normie looks at he man and probably cringes. there's no way for this movie to have succeded
>>
>>221069338
He-man was never that popular or successful in the first place. Spending so much money on this movie is braindead retarded
>>
>>221069356
no. you see the Willow remake did poorly, Rings of Power did poorly, dungeons and dragons did poorly therefore we're going to be inundated about posts jeering a movie with a white straight male fantasy lead that did poorly despite the fact that it was overstuffed with the same propaganda that killed all those other fantasy properties
>>
>>221069425
>>221069389
This, the modern audience is primarily female and BIPOC. Swords and sorcery is a white male thang. If Hollywood wants to be financially successful again they need to start making films that appeal to the modern audience.
>>
>>221069261
Because it's a nostalgia movie for people who are now in their 50s. It's a really old property and long past the era of making a nostalgia movie for it.
>>
>>221069261
Nobody knows, lol. I think I saw someone mention that Amazon considers it a streaming movie, so perhaps it simply came down to them not advertising it enough? If you want a movie to do big numbers you've got to spend 100+ million on marketing and make sure it's in everyone's face.
>kevin smith killed interest in the IP
There was never any interest in it to begin with. The only people who have ever seen any He-Man and are fans of it are in their 50s. Some older millennials have played with the toys but they're not going to care about a movie for some toy they played with when they were 5.
>>
he-man is one of those IPs that everyone knows and recognizes but no one actually gives a shit about, it was always like that even when it was popular
>>
Is this another DADHAT situation?
>>
>>221069868
Back to the Future is as old as He-Man. If they released a part 4 today that was actually good, it would make 2 billion. "It's old" literally means nothing.

It's not action/adventure/fantasy, it's a subgenre called Sword and Planet which notoriously always bombs at the box office. Despite being kino of the highest order, shirtless barbarians wielding swords and fighting evil robots and alien sorcerers while saving buxom alien princesses just never sells.

We saw it with He-Man, we saw it with John Carter, Flash Gordon, Gor, Zardoz, Outlander, and so on.

>the trailers were full of woke shit
No they weren't. The movie actively mocks the pseudo-ideology, especially via Duncan.
>he-man is a bloated shrimp who didn't properly cut
He's natty and looks equivalent to Dolph Lundgren's appearance in his respective film. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. It's impossible to shoot Zack Snyder glory shots bought by steroids and dehydration when your actor is half-naked for longer than seven seconds.
>there was not reason for this to be set on earth
Only the first act (fifteen minutes, approximately) is on Earth, and it never returns, except in the climax when Skeletron is mocking Adam by teleporting him through periods of his life.
>>
>>221069353
Canonically Adam is half-Earthling.

It's John Carter 2: Space Cowboy Boogaloo. I.E. it will likely never get a sequel, but it'll be remembered fondly despite its underperformance.
I would unironically enjoy a live-action TV series continuation. It's mostly unknown actors, and you could recast Jared Leto. Not that he was bad or anything, but I have no idea why he was cast anyway, and he'd be unlikely to return or be too expensive for a TV series, even if it's ten episodes. Idris Elba is no stranger to TV and probably enjoyed the role because his character was funny as fuck and arguably carried the film.

Make it happen, Jeffy. I'll suck your cock and eat your shit AND subscribe to Prime.

>>
>>221071138
Obsession absolutely crushing it in theaters suggests otherwise. This movie’s main issue is that it cost way too much and feels very dated since audiences got tired of the MCU formula years ago.

>>
>>221071974
Because now it is known for the wrong reasons, Amazon LoTR, the Hobbit movies, etc. Little brand recognition is better than negative brand recognition.
>>
>>221069261
A lot of people didn't give it a chance because they dismissed it as a nostalgia cash grab for an IP that they have no nostalgia for. Which is retarded but that's what the experts are saying. The movie did almost everything right, but it's every failed attempt to bring He-Man back before now that has led up to this.

I just hope that people will discover this movie. It deserves to be seen and it makes a great case for why MOTU deserves to be a perennial IP, and this is coming from someone who did not grow up with MOTU (I was not even a sperm when it went off the air).
>>
Its a parody of He Man
>>
>>221069356
To make it successful you would have to change it so much that you might as well just not pay for the IP rights. Masters of the Universe is retarded corny shit that was never going to work for a modern audience no matter what they did. The fact that this shit got a $200m budget is very depressing.

Nobody at large knew LOTR back in 2000. They knew the name but the story itself was a novelty and the movies do epic fantasy in a way it hadn't been done before. He-Man, on the other hand, is just a Marvel movie with the serial numbers filed off, audiences have seen this a thousand times and are bored.
I'll watch it and probably like it, but it won't surprise me if the general public passes on it.

>The movie did almost everything right

I saw it last weekend and the MCU style humor should’ve been dialed way, way back. The movie repeats the same jokes multiple times with a very low success rate. A more sincere approach would’ve improved it a whole lot. I wish the movie’s overall tone was more like the opening sequence.

True. Then people ten years younger only know him from the What's Going On meme. Although it is fucked that the Street Fighter trailer used the song but He-Man didn't.

Oh yeah, the Reddit meme where Skeletor or He-Man tells you an unsettling fact and then runs away. But memes have a shelf life of 2 months without botting (looking at you, Shocked Pikachu that was tied into the marketing budget of Detective Pikachu.)

Just saw it last night.

Initially I thought they're getting it right, but it just doesn't click.
It's like a committee went through a checklist of what would be cool to see in the movie, but it just never synergizes. Everything looks and feels and is acted like some trite SNL skit that's not even funny.

The only person that actually understood the assignment was Brie as Evil Lynn. That was spot on.

>>
>>221072315
I don't think that's really a decision the actors ever get to make. Some do in order to try and get roles, obviously, but in this case I think the production always intended for a more realistic portrayal, seeing as the man previously cast as well as this dude were fit and toned, but not muscle-bound or broad-shouldered. The latter of which is what the 1980s artstyle really embodies, which is something no amount of steroids can change. Even Henry Cavill's Superman has baby shoulders compared to his comic counterpart.
That being said, a couple of things to note is that the movie takes inspiration from both the 80s cartoon and the early 2000s, so this portrayal is a bit of a hybrid between both looks. And finally, He-Man's character, somewhat ironically, isn't actually reliant on how he looks. It's iconic, obviously, but it's more than that.
Just seems like not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

I’m not against a comedic tone, the problem is that so much of the humor in this movie doesn’t land. Like Adam keeps saying that the other female character used to push him into lockers as a kid. Eternia has an earth-style school with lockers?
>>
>>221069261
I didn’t see it cause it’s woke and he man wears revealing clothing but the women don’t. If the women wore revealing clothing I would have seen it, but the wokefags behind the camera wouldn’t allow it so I’m not gonna give those fags my money. Simple as.
>>
>>221073069
Adam's mother, the queen of Eternia, is an astronaut from Earth who was stranded there after going through a space anomaly. If she wanted to reform education and implement Earth-like schools, she has all the power to do so. It's not hard to imagine.
>>
>>221073160
Eh… seems like quite a stretch and I sincerely doubt the writers put that much thought into it lol
>>
>>221072332
Yea I remember watching it having a lot of setup and no payoff. I wondered when they were going to have a final battle or follow up on the teela family stuff but no new episodes came out and then I found out years later it got canceled. I honestly think she-ra is a bigger ip now than he-man just because they let the netflix reboot finish and gave people under 50 something to latch onto, even if it was just gay tumblr shippers.

I mean sure... why not? Also you're presuming they're "earth-style" like they're made of metal or something, when medieval lockers have existed since, well, medieval times. They used these things called a lock and key. Usually hardwood with wrought iron.
Real out-of-this-world kinda stuff.

>>
>>221073342

I remember clearly some threads hating the movie right after the trailer release, they even pointed that He-Man has a sign on his desk with his pronouns "He/Him". I doubt wokes would like it because they just ruin movies, they don't actually watch them, that's why the DEI things have been flopping. I can't imagine a child being into He-Man
>>
>>221073342
I mean it's both, again, much like the portayal of Asgardians in the Marvel universe, because it's practically a knockoff in that regard.
So either way it works. Don't know why anybody would be baffled at Eternia having full-sized lockers. Like where do the Eternians store their weapons? Where does Skeletor keep his staves? What was Randor's tax policy?
>>
>>221073364
Like I said, I doubt the writers gave it as much thought as you. No, I don’t think they would have a school with traditional lockers that bullies push nerds into.

Yea I heard about that. I never watched it but im sure when some 70 year old exec greenlights a tundercats movie a decade from now the same fucking thing will happen. >>
>>221073917
It was accurate to the contents of the film.
>>
>>221073793
It's one scene my guy. Also it serves two purposes beyond potentially being comedic. The scene serves to establish Adam's admiration of the people who are otherwise technically his subjects, as well as endear them to him, because their initial offense turns to comradery when they truly realize he is, in fact, Prince Adam and has been away from his home for fifteen years. That he's effectively just a kid who was trying to find his way home, and his memories of them is what drove him to that end.
It's about more than him being a Ram, man.
>>
>>221073372
The he/him sign is an obvious joke. It's a play on his character name, He-Man, and also serves to show what a fish out of water he is working in a corporate environment. His boss in HR tells him his obsession with swords and fighting is making everyone uncomfortable. Chuds should love it, they are just too shell shocked from the last 10 years to realize this was actually made for them.
>>
>>221073953
Adam was ten when he was sent to earths not a baby. It didn’t make sense to me that he wouldn’t know their real names when they’re members of the royal guard.
>>
I’m a zoomer and I would see it if it wasn’t 2.5 hours long, which I havent seen anyone else mention for some reason. Seems like it should be 110 minutes max with maybe a 2.5hr directors cut on streaming. I’ll only see a movie over 2 hours if I think it’ll be genuinely really good, just being “fun” ain’t gonna cut it. I’ll probably watch it when it hits streaming so I can pause it to use the shitter, get snacks etc
>>
>>221073986
anon, I... what age demographic do you imagine the original line of toys and cartoons were marketed towards? Nevermind that he's ten, it's also just Adam's personality. That's the contrast with He-Man as a character; he's an imaginative, carefree pacifist in the body of a barbarian.
It's also worth noting that these naming schemes have another subtextual purpose, in that the person he disliked growing up he had no nickname for. He also grows up under the watchful and strict eyes of Duncan and his father, so there's the recurring theme that people with proper names are people that Adam generally disliked or was fearful of as a child.
>>
>>221074082
That was my other main issue. It’s definitely too long and should’ve been trimmed to under two hours.

>>
>>221074082
Nobody mentions likely because it doesn't feel its length. It starts off pretty bumpy, admittedly, but it continues to get better. It's pretty rare nowadays for a movie to not peak somewhere in the middle, only to fizzle out towards the end, but that's the case with this.
Starts kinda rough, picks up after the prologue, and then doesn't stop until the climax, which dials everything up to eleven and then fucks off before overstaying its welcome.

The fact that both Teela and Evil-Lyn wear trousers (when they both wore leotards in the original toys and cartoons) is insulting to my senses.
I'm also not fond of the raceswapped MAA but I could've let that slide if it was the only problem. The lack of bare women's thighs is unacceptable though.
>>
>>221069338
Even the original from 87 bombed because by the time they released it the toyline was well into its decline. The time to strike on this would've been at the very least a decade ago when 80s nostalgia was at its peak. It's baffling they decided to go through with this.

>>221075010
Nah, I don’t buy that. Obsession is a down the plate solid horror movie with a good hook. The same premise could’ve been done in the 80s, 90s or 00s.
>>
>>221074156

There has been an autist who has been spamming he-man threads on here since it came out just blatantly lying and samefagging super hard trying to convince people the movie is turbo woke, has no audience, was a bad idea, filled with marvel quips that aren't funny, has terrible acting, is corposlop, etc. I've made a couple posts here and there in he-man threads because I liked the movie and the guy has responded to all of them without fail with something off of his script. Either is a bot or someone with an autistic agenda. The movie was great and this faggot, who is samefagging up this entire thread, is being a massive nigger about it. Everyone who has actually seen the movie likes it and finds its message refreshing, which it is in today's day and age. Genuinely I can't believe this slipped through the cracks and Jews are doing damage control on it because a movie with the message "try to talk it out and understand people but if they are just evil then you should beat the shit out of them" cannot be allowed to get popular today
>>
>>221075860
I liked it overall, but I do think the comedy was the worst element. Too many repeated jokes that didn’t land.

His Skeletor was fantastic. He steals the show every time he is on screen. Skeletor has become one of my favorite movie villains of all time now and I wasn't really that much of a fan of He-man before. The mindrape scenes were hilarious

Zoomer here as well. I didn't have a problem with the length and was engaged the whole time. I'm pretty quick to zone out if the movie sucks but this kept my attention. Fix your attention span dude. If a 2.5 hour movie conceptually seems hard for you, you're fucked and need to dial back the reels man
>>
>>221076042
It’s not the length so much as the pacing. Any Transformers or He-Man movie probably doesn’t really need to be over two hours long. Modern blockbusters have become unnecessarily bloated. I think the logic is that audiences won’t feel like they got their money’s worth with ticket prices these days if the big summer blockbusters aren’t over two hours.
>>
>>221076096
The only pacing problems in this movie are the initial 30 minutes, of which the first like 10-15 are actually fine, which leaves you with 15-20 minutes of stuff that maybe coulda been trimmed down a bit but still needs to be there for the movie to make sense
>>
>>221069261

My biggest issue is the movie tries to set up Adam using his HR skills over brawn which never once pays off. For one, it’s completely ridiculous to think these cartoonish villains would actually respond to that, and he just ends up beating the shit out of Skeletor at the end. So why even keep that stuff in the movie?

He-Man being something kids aren't interested in is not the reason the movie flopped. No one knew or cared about a C-list superhero like Iron Man before 2008. The marketing for the movie leaned in way too heavily on the movie being an adaptation of the 80s cartoon, for fans of the 80s cartoon. I think every trailer included footage of the Filmation show playing on a CRT monitor, because "remember the 80s?" That limits the movie's appeal. They should've market it as a sci-fi fantasy movie. Period. Then again, that genre can be a tough sell (see: John Carter, almost all fantasy outside of LOTR and Harry Potter, etc.)

There's no way anyone in Gen Alpha knows what He-Man is or why they should care about it. At best they know the recent She-Ra cartoon. I'm a millennial and I only know about He-Man because the 2002 reboot was on TV when I was a kid and back then I had no idea it was a property from the 80's. Otherwise it would be something like Street Sharks or or Go Bots that I'd only know the name of because /co/ sometimes brings it up.

When will they finally give up on trying to get young people interested in old shit?

I'm glad nuShe-Ra is dead and forgotten

I already know what he's going to say, "They should have made it dark and gritty instead of jokey because that's what I wanted" and "the he/him joke and a few random comments from the cast and director that got repeated ad-nauseum on my channel caused the public to boycott the movie to the tune of a billion dollars of lost ticket sales."

If anyone's to blame for this movie doing bad at the box office it's Kevin Smith. Revelations was many people's introduction to MOTU and not only was it trash, but it treated He-Man like trash and probably did not make anyone excited for a He-man movie, fan or otherwise.

This is another treasured 80’s memory processed by the Hollywood machine and injected with modernity, feminism, crass and anachronistic language, race swapping, gender swapping, and emasculation of male characters. I despise all of the above, and yet- I still liked 90% of this film. But here’s the rub: I didn’t see it in a theater precisely because I suspected the above to be true. So they did not get my money. Crucially, they do not know I had an interest in the 90% that I enjoyed. And they never will know. Cause I simply don’t pay to watch propaganda, full stop. There are MANY like me. That is why it is “bombing so hard”.

Trust in Hollywood is lower than it's ever been to the extent that people hear a movie has a 200 million dollar budget and their eyes glaze over and they assume it's just gonna be trash. I heard someone make an interesting comparison in that they wanted to make He-man for men what the Barbie movie was to women but the issue is, other than men who show up to slavishly watch slop over and over again because they are barely sentient, most men think hollywood is trash these days and trust is in the crater, so they don't want to even show up to movies anymore as opposed to women

I actually really want to see it, but I've been too busy. I don't really like that they took Adam into the real world & made him a pussy coward for the start of it thought. Has anyone seen it? what's up with that? Idc about spoilers.
>>
>>221087056
Adam starts out in Eternia but Skeletor invades causing them to send Adam away to earth with the sword of power. On the way there he gets separated from the sword and he spends his time looking for it but he also gets a job in the HR department. The implication is that Adam is a genuinely caring and understanding guy, but modern HR is gay and retarded and makes him do gay and retarded stuff. Once he finds the sword he immediately goes back to Eternia and pretty quickly learns to not be gay and retarded. Its a fun little arc that you genuinely have to be retarded to not get, especially because at the end of the movie they literally spell it out to you not once, not twice, but three times

The He Man style is going almost all in on the visual spectacle leaving no budget or time for the plot. Conan the Barbarian and Legend of Zelda are better examples of the style that don't half ass the plots. That before the relentless irritations in most marketed products like never having a white couple as the main characters. Not only pushing race mixing but Leftism and shaming of white men while exalting everyone else. It's no wonder men of many colors do go to the theatres.

when i saw it adam looked right at the screen and recited my full legal name and address and the last four digits of my social so be careful.

Obsession is a wish fantasy gone wrong. It's story is solid. He Man was always shallow moral lessons for young boys in a barbarian crossed with sci fi package and with unrealistic amounts of diversity in its cast.

snydercut is pretty much the same movie with better cgi and some context that wasn't good or very different from whedon's. I didn't like it but it is better
He man's ok as a flick, cgi looks decent enough even on cam and fights don't change camera angle each second. Message is clear and unsullied by woke faggotry
It's too lighthearted sometimes and the pacing is too fast but that's fine. Even when teela acts as a dyke, at the end of the day she's just eye candy.
You're mad at a movie because it didn't collect as much money as jews wanted despite whatever the movie itself is, man that's being a turbo fag and the tragic fun to it is you don't even realize you're working for them ad honorem kek

These Hollywood Execs came up in the era of DVD and merchandising. They're the same dipshits who greenlit the Battleship movie. They can only see things in terms of potential merchandising revenue. So an existing IP built around a toy is a surefire way to get something made.
It kinda worked with Barbie. Only reason this got greenlit.
>>
>>221073249
It was the number 1 selling toy in america, beating out Barbie. Something previously thought impossible. In fact the Barbie division was so upset that they demanded "equal representation" in the He-Man universe and destroyed the brand out of spite.

yea it wouldve died anyway i was there barbarian figs cant be a perennial thing. also doubt merch is the reason the current movie got made he-man figs are strictly slop for manchild collectors now, profitable but niche stuff

why do boomers keep giving gen x IPs $200m+ budgets
>>
>>221069261
Think about how the Eternals bombed because it had no characters normies cared about. Now do that again and make it have no ties to the MCU.
You now have He-Man

>>221069338
if they made it dark and gritty it could have worked

They are desperately trying to find the new capeshit now that capeshit is dead. A new cornucopia to vomit over the modern audience.
Basically they are retards
>>
>>221089487
Definitely not.

They should have just sticked to the og cartoon, but for real, and make it by men for men. All while keeping the budget reasonable.
No four quadrants audience, no-nu-masculinity, no quipshit, no guardian of the galaxy, no self deprecation, no raceswaps, no prudeness.
All the premises to have a nice B movie are already there in the og cartoon, but Mattel hat to turn it into Barbie and make it for the modern audience, so here we are

It's fucking He-Man
For the last few decades the only cultural relevance it has is how gay it is. Barely anyone under the age of 40 looks back at this series with fondess. Doesn't matter the "quality" of the movie. The IP itself has been reduced to a joke.

Back to the Future is an iconic and successful movie franchise and a brand that has stayed in the public eye due to shit like the musical.
Masters of the Universe is not that.
The sad thing is this is a decent film that deserves to do better, whereas a fourth Back to the Future would be a terrible idea
>>
>>221069411
It was popular enough to dethrone the Ghostbusters in their own cinematic universe

>>221090283
It’s a funny gag but He-Man had already lost popularity by the time Ghostbusters 2 was released
