Did nuWars have some cool designs?
Snoke's ship was the only one I recall actually liking. It was still just a Super Star Destroyer but it was visually distinctive even if a bit mediocre compared to EU designs like the Eclipse.
Yes, in the sequels I loved the uhhh X-wings and TIE fighters
>Screenshot of a completely inoffensive Reddit post about a fairly decent but also kind of unremarkable redesign>OP probably expects me to get absolutely assblasted at this or something
>>221077779Nah, everything seemed a bit over designedKylo Ren’s shuttle was okay I guessAs was Rey’s speeder, but that was essentially just Luke’s speeder turned 90 degrees
>>221077779the problem with this stuff is the first order never seems like anything remotely close to the scale of the empire, despite the insistence in how they made them dress the same and act like super evil imperial fascists - fascists whose government spans all of.. a couple star destroyers? it just doesn't make sense that they would have access to an equivalent or superior arsenal.
>>221077779No.
As a very casual star wars fan, K2S0 is basically the only thing from nu wars that was cool enough for me to actually remember what it's called.
The U-wing and some of the other stuff from Rogue One but thats it.
>>221077779Yes but they are few and far between.BB-8 and the ball droids are a fun new take on Astromechs. Sidon Ithano is fucking cool. Babu Frick and the Anzellans are cool and fun. Even though they were gay plush toys the Porgs were a fun unique design. But other than that? I can't think of anything especially when it comes to the ships, soldiers, and vehicles which are the most important desigs you need for a movie called Star WARS.
>>221078638>Even though they were gay plush toys the Porgs were a fun unique designyou're a fucking moron
>>221077779
>>221077879Welcome to 4chan, the site where we endlessly seethe about a much more popular site that doesn't care about us.
>>221078638>Sidon IthanoYeah, I liked him. TFA had a few too many boring fleshy aliens wearing beige but he stood out and looked cool
>>221078694Christ anon, this is a blue board.
>>221077918The designs were derivative as fuck but also awesome. if they didn't rape the story so badly, even just like literally just copying the OGT but with the new characters, it'd be beloved and constantly talked about, and they'd be on epside 10 by now
>>221077879Lol this. OP almost got me too
>>221077779I think there was one vehicle design I liked, but I can't remember I've only rewatched them once and I prefer not to think about them.
>>221078694AAAAAH!
>>221078821He looks like someone that would have been in the cantina in ANH, which should be a metric for good SW designs.
rogue one had some cool alien designs.
>>221078107The entire trilogy was a failed reboot of the OT.
>>221079200Aren't these just the Plo Koon guys?
>>221077779no, everything is a soulless rehash of existing designsno creative freedom was allowed any of the artists because the marketers couldn't make guarantees to the board that audiences would consoom
>>221079219No, JJ's movies were that. 8th was some abomination with obvious spite toward Star Wars.
>>221079242Tognath and Kel Dor, two different species apparently
>>221079242No, these are Tognaths. They first appeared in Rogue One as Saw Guerrera's 2nd in command, pretty much their only notable role.Plo Koon is a Kel Dor, which IS related to the Tognath and also, apparently, to the Gand (bring back the Gand, they are cool as hell).
Aside from the iPhone first order troopers, most of the troopers they added have been pretty cool. Shoretroopers, Rangetroopers, Patrol Troopers, ISB Troopers
>>221079298>>221079285Could have fooled me. The designs look okay but they still suffer from Disney "aliens are all lumpy grey/brown hobos" syndrome.>(bring back the Gand, they are cool as hell)My nigga.
>>221079298>>221079541>cousin species Actually kind of fine with this. They share enough visual cues where you can see the similarity. Humans have a shit ton of offshoot near human cousins so why can't other species?
>>221079398Agreed, there are many cool new Disney designs, like those you mentioned. It's just that they aren't from the trash heap trilogy.
>>221079398>RangetroopersShooting range, or Home on the Range?
>>221078107> the first order never seems like anything remotely close to the scale of the empireI only watched TFA but they had a planet sized Death Star that eats suns anon
>>221079651The Jedi Fallen Order game retcons that as "oh uh actually the empire was working on that all along too btw they just never mentioned it".All we ever see of the First Order is their Super Death Star and a handful of their ships yet we're supposed to believe they took over the galaxy in about five minutes after getting their planet base blown up.
>>221078107The problem, and why you and so many, myself included, felt this way is that they didn't communicate at all the state that the Galaxy and the New Republic was in. They didn't show any of the flaws. The New Republic is a mess. A lot of planets understandably didn't rejoin the Republic after the fall of the Empire, instead choosing independence and vague local alliances. But other systems remained in control of Empire loyalists, remnants, which is what the First Order is supposed to be. It would have worked infinitely better if Snoke had been the political leader of the Imperial remnants, like Sidious was in relation to Vader. But TLJ fucks that up as well by unceremoniously killing Snoke.
>>221079253This, but also the redesigns aren't even that good. Just look at the the front feet in OP. There is zero side to side articulation, so it's going to have very shitty footing/traction. And the addition of the little toe flaps on the side don't look like they would help at all. The entire foot is bigger, and trhere is half the ammount of toes
>>221078671Yeah and you're a fucking loser that can't be objective because of a hate boner we get it.
The main problem I have with Disneywars is that the new aliens they introduced are just really samey. They're all squinty-eyed brown/beige boring blobs. There's no color to them unlike the prequel aliens for example. That, and the puppets are atrocious, the Babu-Frik guys move so stiffly.
>>221078638I largely agree.Though I think much of the problem of the sequel trilogy is that it's like if the OT had featured Boba Fett but had given him a shrill clown's voice. Even the good stuff falls flat when everything around it is bad.
>>221079732Now that you mention it anon, it is really astounding how they didn't even bother to have a single fucking line to explain any of that shit, like why Leia is suddenly leading another rag-tag group of rebels when they supposedly already run the galaxy and why the fuck there's another Empire and another Death Star out of nowhere. The original movies had a few throwaway lines of Luke talking about the Rebellion and how he hates the Empire, and we get a rough picture of the state of the galaxy through things like Tarkin meeting with the other officers and Leia's message to Obi-Wan.The sequels have none of this, our characters are literally just thrown into the middle of a story and go along with it for no apparent reason.I don't even remember why Rey and Finn head off on the Falcon at the start other than the characters literally being told "hey remember the original movies?"
>>221079398The thing is, all those troopers you mentioned are from the inter period era between the prequel and OT. There is no good design from the sequel era.
>Ah yes, it reminds me a Chalicotherium!Fake ass post.
>>221077779all derivative and lame>apple duckbilled stormtroopers>"it's like the at-at but they're gorillas instead of camels">every alien being brown butthole eyesvery forgettable but not worth getting assblasted over
>>221077779What exactly is the canon on its back supposed to shoot at?
>>221080304The main problem of the ST is that they got enamored by the idea that the "I am your father" twist in the OT is something they have to chase in EVERY SINGLE PLOT DEVELOPMENT in the ST.So instead of building a proper story and maybe tossing in a twist or two when shit gets to some dramatic point, they just subverted every single thing they could think of.Oh you think we're going to explain this? We're not. Oh you think you know enough about this? You don't. Oh you like this character? Well they're dead. Oh you think we're doing this with that character? Well we're not. In the end it just becomes weirdly spiteful that they will do ANYTHING in their power not to give you what you want, because they think it's oh so smart to keep subverting expectations. Everything is a twist. The end result is that nothing makes any kind of sense.
>>221080401I would assume gunships.
>>221080401>AT-M6>All Terrain MegaCaliber Six (this is literally what it stands for, kek)>named for the big turbolaser cannon on the back of it>deploy all of these and still need the retarded "battering ram cannon" to break into the baseWhat's the fucking point of these if they can't even do the one thing they're supposed to do?
>>221080401Other big canons
>>221080405The retarded thing about this is they can't even stick to their guns on it, they've still got to do things like>uh did you know the new republic threw away all their guns for no reason after blowing up the empire?>did you know that palpatine's message was sent to the galaxy through fortnite?>did you know the sith eternal fleet (that's what it's called btw, we never mentioned it) was crewed by sith cultists trained on lightning storm planet?shit through social media posts or supplemental things. Again, it's probably because the other movies did it too, but they did it for supplemental information like "the Incom T-65 X-Wing uses a quad-duralumin core hyperdrive" or shit like that, not key plot points. It's cargo cult filmmaking, they're just blindly mimicking the things that made money in the past and hoping they'll get the same result.
>>221078107>act like super evil imperial fascistsComplete with Nazi Party rallies in TFA. That, plus with that dumb B-q7-inspired gravity bomber from the beginning of TLJ, were like the filmmakers taking tje idea of ‘Star Wars is WWII IN SPACE” to the logical extreme.
>>221079651Despite that absurdity, in the sequel canon the First Order is much smaller and weaker than the Empire and controls only a small section of the galaxy. Such that up until they got blown up, the New Republic was able to downplay and minimize the threat they posed, because they didn't want another galactic civil war
>>221078821He also was buddies with probably the last living clone. For a franchise that loves diving into the backstories of background characters it’s kind of surprising we never got more of him.
>>221077779>cable cutters>horizontal metal plates that allow cables to grip betterAre redditors retarded?>>221078107I remember everyone describing the resistance and the first order as though they were extremely underwhelming armies fighting over a backwater whilst the rest of the galaxy just sort of ignored what was happeningWhen the infinity planet cracking star destroyers showed up everyone was confused why the fight was now over killing literally everyone
>>221077779No one besides the nerdiest of Star Wars nerds noticed that that thing looks any different from the old AT-AT.
I liked the resurgent class star destroyer
>>221081078The Venator was close enough in appearance to the Star Destroyer that it was clear it shared the same design lineage but was different enough not to be a lazy copy and paste job. The resurgent leans far too much towards copy and paste as does everything else in the sequels>whoa the Xwing looks slightly sleeker!>whoa Tie Fighters have a red stripe now!>ATATs have bigger feet!>stormtroopers are red!
The Venator is the best starship design ever conceived.
>>221080476>All Terrain MegaCaliber Six (this is literally what it stands for, kek)this is very retardedthe whole walking transport thing is stupid anyway, standing way up over the battlefield so you can be seen for miles is complete dipshittery unless there is some other massive benefit.Like okay if they are so well armored that you can't shoot them, then you could still have just built a tank instead and it wouldn't get its fucking legs tied together and blow up
>>221080712And then the second movie throws that out the window by telling us that this smaller, weaker force now somehow holds the galaxy in their iron fist a few hours after their planet-sized space station was destroyed along with the majority of their forces (except it isn't because they have a gigantic fuck-off Super Duper Star Destroyer and even bigger deadlier fleets that they just forgot about using to protect their planet-base in the first movie apparently)
>>221081407The AT-AT makes more sense as a city garrison vehicle, for its intimidation factor and the ability to shoot over obstacles. In Rebels, that's usually where it's found IIRC.The AT-TE is so much better. That thing is great.
>>221077779I don't get what the front "paw" is doing that a regular leg doesn't do better.>>221078107>first order never seems like anything remotely close to the scale of the empireWe're told essentially fuckall needed to understand the situation. Which braindead retards will say is the same for the first movie, except the problem is it's not the first movie anymore, and this has to work inside canon somehow. They wanted to make the same movie again, so they pressed a reset button, but they didn't explain it enough for anything to make sense. The empire is totally defeated and the republic is back? But the nu-empire is stronger and can build a planet size interstellar gun? And they shoot one planet system, not-Coruscant, and that makes the entire galactic government fall. Including all their military resources somehow. Because there's just the "resistance" left? Which is different from the rebellion/galatic republic... how? It's the same thing with the "balance to the force" and Vader's sacrifice, and the Emperor returning. It actively undoes canon, but it can't even explain itself. Why and how is he back? If Rey kills him he will become all-powerful, and then she does. But he just died anyway? Everything is so fucking half baked the only real thing you can take away from it is all the ways it breaks canon. I don't think the hyperspace attack or force healing would be such a big deal if they'd just had some story purpose for it, but there's not even that. It's just asspulls that don't even need to be in the story.
>>221077779when the universe literally has hover tanks (gungan fight) it makes zero sense to ever have giant 4 legged walkers, full stop. bad design in any facet
>>221081407The whole premise is supposed to be that they're heavily armored troop transports that ignore most difficult terrain by just walking over it, through it, or outright flattening it, and the size also adds to the intimidation factor that the Empire leans heavily on.You could say the same about tanks and having their treads blown off, technically. Most of the time an AT-AT's going to be sent against ground troops like the regulars at Echo Base, and they're not going to be able to run out and wrap a cable around its legs.
>>221077779based
>>221081506>for its intimidation factor and the ability to shoot over obstacles.hover tanks can just float up and shoot over obstacles.>>221081547>You could say the same about tanks and having their treads blown off, technically.they have hover tanks treads aren't an issue
>>221081407I think one of the newer Jedi games has them on Kashyyyk and in that they're plowing through forests and tall enough to walk through swamps. When you think about it, even at Hoth they only lost two of them (and only one to a tow cable), and the Empire still won the battle overwhelmingly in the end.
>>221081570>toss a grenade/mine under a hover tank>engine dies, tank faceplants
>>221079541>>221079298Gand were fucking kino. I remember in X-Wing one of the pilot was one, and his X-Wing was painted all white, at least to everyone else. To his eyes, the paint was reflecting colours we couldn't see.
>>221081541Not necessarily, although I do agree that in general hover tanks are better. Hover could require more energy, or be more expensive to maintain, or not be able to lift as much weight which would mean less weapons and armor.
>>221081570>heavily armored>hover vehicleenjoy getting picked off by bush pilots in speeders
>>221081407>standing way up over the battlefield so you can be seen for miles is complete dipshittery unless there is some other massive benefit. If you can be seen for miles, you can also..?That's right, see for miles. Which makes it an area denial weapons platform. Even hiding from it becomes difficult due to the line of sight, it's borderline a flying scout. > you could still have just built a tank instead and it wouldn't get its fucking legs tied togetherIt's all overanlyzing an adventure movie, but this was supposed to be a freak lucky break for the rebels. They only succeeded a couple of times and they still lost the battle. There's a lot of real world weapons that are slow and lumbering, like... tanks. In fact with the war in Ukraine tanks seem borderline useless in modern war. I don't think anyone's removing tanks from future wargames though because they serve a specific purpose in an overall war plan. They're not meant to be scurrying around solo getting taken potshots at by drones and AP missile wielding yobbos.

>>221081710>so the trade federationThe richest galactic conglomerate, you mean?Seriously, Palpatine spent an insane amount of money on the death stars. The equipment empire troops have isn't the best possible. Thrawn champions the Tie Advanced Fighter design as an alternative budget expense to the Death Star. As far as nuwars I think The Corvus qualifies as a stand outSequels then Mauls ship and Naboo Royal are cool.
>>221083773It was cool seeing them do that to give a sense of progression, from everyone having their own style of ship/vehicle like the Naboo starfighters and CIS craft to the gradual standardization of everything as the Empire took shape. Then you've got the sequels, where there's an even larger time gap between them and the OT than there was between the prequels and the OT, yet practically nothing has changed beyond>uhhh put a couple more greebles on the x-wings I guessand retarded designs like the TLJ bombers and the sideways dropship that Leia has from TFA.
>>221077779the big feet only being on the front legs and the back legs just being identical to AT-ATs really pissed me off for some reason.it would look way better if all four legs had the knuckle-walking look
>>221077779I've always really liked the visual design Like all the ruins and stuff makes it feel like the Star Wars Galaxy has been lived in for millennia. Then there's old battlefields from the Galactic Civil War with the huge wrecked Star Destroyers and stuff. >>221083773>I liked the Hailfire Droids a lot. Giant fast wheels with a crap ton of missiles. CIS droids all had good designs.Same, it’s a shame they are so under-utilised. >>221077879>>221078753>>221079010>>221081819You can always go back
>>221084234The thing about sci-fi is that you can make any arbitrary design work if you throw enough technobabble at it. Like these could be explained by something like:>The Rebellion/Resistance wanted to improve their munitions so as not to have to rely on any Death Star style flaws to do any significant damage to large ships or bases and set to work creating an improved cannon using a reverse-engineered hyperspace-drive to accelerate an explosive payload to a high enough speed to damage the hull/shields of a Star Destroyer. Due to a lack of funding, the cannon looked impossible to complete until one Resistance scientist called Lot'Saspa Gettee devised a rough solution using the gravitational field of a nearby planet to stabilise the cannon. This had the unfortunate side effect of limiting the weapon to only be able to be fired from directly above the target (relative to the surface of the nearby planet), so old ships were re-fitted as "bomber" class ships.Just hire a sperg when you make your sci-fi movie to put enough science words together to make your shit work. But no, instead we got literal ww2 bombers in space.
Zorii Bliss was a cool design even though she was pointless
>>221080401>What exactly is the canon on its back supposed to shoot at?

The new trilogy should've been about the New Republic using increasingly brutal and despotic means to hunt down the Imperial Remnant and their supporters.
>>221086405wasn't that Lucas' pitch, the whole Iraq war parallel and wanting to use Darth Maul and shit
>>221086427No idea, but based if he did. I'm not familiar with EU or whatever I just played the Dark Forces series recently and thought how much cooler that would've been instead of retracting OT.
>>221077779>Did nuWars have some cool designs? Not really. The bigger AT-AT with more guns was probably the best. Bigger version of thing you know with bigger guns was generally the idea behind half the crap they put in.The only Disney Wars designs I really like were in Rogue One.
>>221085785She's just a power ranger
>>221077779No. Almost all the vehicles in the sequels are just copies of vehicles taken from the original trilogy with a few bits and pieces changed (for nostalgiamaxxing). Compare that with the prequels, which gave us tons of completely new designs. And even when they tried to be original like >>221084234, it looks incredibly out of place and poorly thought out.
Should have inverted the roles of the republic and empireThe remnants of the empire should be the small group who sabotages the republic from the inside using spies, forming bonds with crimelords, hiring bounty hunters to assassinate politicians, rallying up the poor and abandoned planets from the outer rims against the republic, carrying out terrorist attacks, etcAnything but another "we're the big guys with the big laser that destroys planets"

>>221087153Then why the fuck did they need this thing?
>>221087305Now that I'm looking at this, the movie makes even less sense. >The sequels were bad but the designs were cool, I loved the walker!>The prequels were bad but the designs were cool, I loved the walker!>The last movie was bad but the designs were cool, I loved the walker! It's like poetry, so it rhymes.
>>221081339i swear the designs were made by a law firm hellbent on being exactly 25% different to avoid licensing fees
>>221077779No, everything was approved by a committee based on the impressions of the most diverse focus groups, and hence bland and soulless.
>>221080101some of these look cool, too bad they were only in one frame and the rest of the movie was spent with our all-human main cast
I remember leaving the cinema after watching E7 hoping that the next movie would have more aliens. There was no hope to be found anywhere after E8.
>>221088150How exactly does that work? I mean, if Disney owns Star Wars, do they still need to pay the artist who designed say, AT-AT, every time they feature it? I thought it was more of a one and done thing, where Lucas just paid the artist for their work, and then he (now Disney) owns it in perpetuity as the part of Star Wars, but idk
>>221077779every singe nu-disney design sucks because they literally take a cool OG design and just randomly change it until it's legally distinct enough not to pay royalties on it.
>>221089324unless the designer has a special contract(very rare), it works as you said

The Y-wing is the workhorse of the rebel fleet: Not quick or flashy but it gets the job done. The armor on this ship is extensive, and the shields will protect you from just about anything. Which is good, because you won't be going anywhere fast. The Y-wing is used mainly as a bomber because it can carry a heavy payload of missiles, torpedoes and bombs. The other important weapon is the topside ion cannon - which rather than destroying its target, can disable it for later capture. Our cannons have a computer-assisted auto-fire feature. So don't forget that when you're in the heat of battle.
>>221087849So the problem is the movie not the design? Thanks for finally getting it.
>>221089587it's so ugly compared to the other kino ship designs
>>221089582the naboo fighter is genuinely gorgeous
>>221077779Star Wars designs are cool because they were in Star Wars.DIsney Wars designs are all gay because they were in Disney Wars. No exceptions.
>>221089795Sith.
>>221089913Am I wrong?
>>221081078where did they get that from
>>221077779>>221078638The only designs from Disney Wars that I liked were BB8 (and ball droids in general), those mosquito aliens from Maz's castle and those crystal foxes from The Last Jedi. Oh, and Caysin Bog from Rogue One.
>>221090079All gay.
