Do you think you could be conned into joining a cult?

All a cult needs to do is provide women and they're golden

During my psychedelics era, I had a few pals who were in cults but didn't tell me. Bahai cults to be specific, it's a good thing I was never interested in woo woo shit because I could've ended up in one if I was. I remember watching a Heavens Gate documentary and it was said that most of the members were just regular people who were lost in life, felt like they had no purpose.

i was actually hoping someone would bring this up. i just caught part of the first episode and was intrigued but i love cult docs.

in answer to your question, i think i could, yes. most people who watch things like this always mock the cult members for being stupid, gullible, naive, etc. yes, many of them are, but they're not all morons. some people just get sucked into these things because they're worn down by harassment, manipulated by praise and adoration, or maybe they let themselves get pulled into it looking for some sense of community or belonging they couldn't find elsewhere. how and why people join all sorts of groups, including cults, has always fascinated me.

Agreed. But the women in most of there cults...... egh!
>>
>>221079780
The cults that get me are the ones that genuinely make the people in that cults life better. It always starts off good but then going south.

Jim Jones had a meteoric rise in the San Francisco power structure specifically because of People's Temple and got crazy rich because of the cult, the very same thing became his undoing. It's a house of cards, unsustainable

Yeah I just finished episode 2 and it looks like it is about to get wild

It is crazy how many super smart people have joined cults. I would like to think I wouldnt do it. But I mean if it had things I was interested in as part of the cult who knows.

I don’t want to be a part of any club that would have me as a member
>>

My brother joined a cult in Brazil. I don’t even know what the name of it is but it has something to do with aliens controlling the planet and he worships them.
>>221079755
Yup. A woman sucked him into the cult and apparently he had a space alien wedding and he’s cut off all contact with me and my parents. I last talked to him about 3 years ago and he’s bat shit crazy.

I am in a cult wanna join?
>>
>>221079820
Watch Holy Hell on Tubi. The women were California dimes but the leader was a gay rapist but the normal guys had access to endless poon
>>
>>221079992
You guys may have to hire kidnappers and deprogrammers if he won't leave
>>
>>221079922

sometimes i think people just get grabbed in a moment when they're vulnerable or weak for any reason. maybe they had a relationship end, lost a job, were rejected from something they worked for, etc. and their normal critical defenses are just not as heightened. i think it's like reading a book or seeing a movie, that normally wouldn't appeal to you, but for any number of reasons it resonates with you emotionally when you watch it.

People join cults because being told how to live your life and what the hidden secrets of the universe are is seductive. Being an independent adult means being responsible for every aspect of your life, your successes and your failures. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone assured you it was the space ghosts possessing you that were sabotaging you instead it just being you?
>>
>>221080002
Sure what do I get?
>>
>>221080071

not all cults revolve around extraterrestrials and the paranormal...
>>
>>221080039
Yeah they are always searching for something because they feel lost in the world they are living in. Which to be totally honest with you. I am in that position right now. So hopefully a cult doesnt show up.
>>
>>221080071
I think I would join a cut until someone started talking about supernatural stuff then I would check out.
>>
>>221079729
If they made a documentary about the cult I ran it’d be called “Bring Me The Boobies”
>>
>>221080025
He tried to ripoff me and my parents by his wife saying he was kidnapped and needed ransom so they could give money to their cult. He’s a narcissistic sociopath and we’re better off with him living in another continent, I’m actually more scared of seeing him again.
>>
Probably not. I'm too reluctant to commit to anything for that. As soon as they'd ask me to do regular work or pay regular money, I'd probably ghost them.

And I'm too much of a critical thinker and a cynic
