Something like watching movies or listening to music is a general mainstream entertainment that vast majority of the population participates in. In order for it to become a "hobby" you should cross a certain depth of your involvement in this entertainment. This is why the boomer lady was confused, it's just a communication problem.

By this logic, almost no one has a true hobby. Cooking is my hobby. Sure, most people cook, but I actually do it for fun. I made mushroom infused clarified butter, homemade chinese dumplings, and baguette all this weekend along with the rest of my meals.
