Watching "Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter" (1972 or 1974) now. It's a Hammer production, but it's written and directed by TV legend Brian Clemens, and the difference to the older Hammer vampire films is very positively noticeable. It has Caroline Munro in it, and this time she doesn't die right away like in "Dracula AD 1972". It also has many comely young maidens that get seduced/mesmerized by the vampire, and instead of turning them into vampires he sucks the youth out of them so that they very soon die of old age.

Just watched the original Hellraiser, since it is a classic. Interesting movie with some good practical effects for the time, especially on Frank. While Julia's character felt very real, Frank kinda fell flat for me as a character, both in that he has little to him other than being a deviant thrill-seeking asshole and in that if he went so far as to buy the cube because he "didn't care if he got the pleasure of heaven or hell" when he used it, then why did he try to escape the Cenobytes at all? Makes no sense, he was right where he wanted to be.

Just finished. Serbian folk horror that runs a little over an hour. Millers keep dying in a little farming village and a guy who's been forbidden from marrying his sweetheart gets hustled into taking the job. Then he gets attacked by the same werewolf that killed the other millers and the whole town gets to werewolf hunting. Its surprisingly focused on dry comedy, having the bumbling drunks shake in their boots and stumble around a lot. It's very simple and there are no surprises, but its comfy in a way that almost feels like something you'd watch it a literature class. I don't know any background on it but it seems like a television production. Nice folk music droning in the background often.

I've now seen the ending of "Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter" and I must say it was pretty predictable.The coach tracks end at the local castle, so the vampire was one of them. Turns out it was the dead nobleman and his widow. During the first cemetery scene it was established that the dead nobleman was a superb swordsman - so a final swordfight with Captain Kronos ensues. Kronos has to win of course, so he does. He kills both vampires and then moves on ... to wherever evil may be afoot. The end.Captain Kronos is still a better Hammer vampire film than some of the preceding ones. Also the trick with the dead toad in a box was neat.
