I have a theory that they tried to appeal to younger teens back in the early 2010s with more serious and dramatic shows like the original Teen Titans, Generator Rex and the 2011 Thundercats reboot, but then realized these shows were too expensive to produce and most of the target audience just watched anime instead anyway. So they simply gave up and decided to pivot to much younger kids who had never even heard of anime, which meant the plots and characters needed to be dumbed down and the visuals had to be more simplistic.

It all came crashing down for Cartoon Network when they released a theatrical film based on The Powerpuff Girls and it bombed badly. After that point they basically scrapped the entire channel's identity and it turned into Nickelodeon 2.0 during the day, and aired cheaply made stoner cartoons at night.

Johnny Bravo is even funnier to me as an adult, same with Billy and Mandy. Dexter's Lab is still mostly good, but has a few unwatchable weird/annoying episodes. Kids Next Door, same deal. Powerpuff Girls was surprisingly a mixed bag, quite a few boring episodes and straight up bad ones where the characters don't act like they should, but still good overall. Foster's, aside from a couple gems like Frankie My Dear, just doesn't translate to being funny for an adult. Camp Lazlo got hit hardest by this, it was a show I really liked as a kid, but is wholly mediocre at best upon rewatch. It basically just further confirms that the best comedy toons are the ones that can make both kids and adults laugh with great writing and well-designed characters. The difference between Lazlo and Johnny Bravo as titular characters is worlds apart.

But it was all downhill from there and the network hasn’t been able to recover. 15+ years of absolute horseshit shows. Adult Swim was the only thing keeping it from being totally irredeemable.

Cartoons before Zoomer era felt more varied. Regular Show and Adventure Time were like a weird inbetween phase, but everything after them feels like the same show. It's all just spastic autists doing le randum and screaming and generally acting retarded.Courage, EE&E, Teen Titans, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls, Billy and Mandy, Clone Wars, etc all felt so different and they all felt different from Nick and Disney cartoons as well.
