But overall the movie is fucked up because nobody is really 100 % at fault and it just spirals out of control from nothing and completely destroys the standing of the guy in the community. The child just picks something up from her surroundings and uses it without possibly being able to comprehend the meaning and consequences and of course the parents assume the worst without thinking about the possibility that the child would just make it up (as we all would in that situation).

Where did the whole "did he do it" meme come from? I remember watching this movie and it shows he didn't do it and was framed. The idea was that a false accusation can ruin your life, even when you're proved innocent and will always haunt you (the shot at the ned).
A woman is one of the only two who believes him and sticks with him until he spergs out and makes her leave. She comes back at the end anyway.
