What's the better first contact story?

Star Trek: First Contact

\arrival but only if you take away the dead kid flashback bullshit that ruins the vibe of the movie.
Other than that it is probably the best movie about actual first contact and how humans (if you could call americans humans) would deal with communicating with AYYs.

Other movies have generic shit like politicians trying to speak to AYYS or crap like that.

Contact is another good movie but fails the actual first contact part.

I think Arrival conveys the eeriness of it pretty well, and the aliens are suitably weird and enigmatic. The stuff about language shaping reality was decently interesting even if some people understandably didn't like it.
Hail mary isn't bad but it's a very reddit movie. Just a very cookie-cutter feel good thing made to be very easy and inoffensive, with nothing that really stands out.

This
Arrival's plot is pure femoidslop lowkey stronk woman solves everything, but strictly in terms of technical audio-visual sense it's a beautiful film, Heptapods are actual aliens with alien morphology AND are NOT monsters unlike the traditional depiction of non-humanoid alien life in Hollywood

And of course it has the 2016 political messaging so that's that

came here to say this

>alien tells you that your child with jeremy renner will die a slow, painful death
>still has the child with jeremy renner
>doesn't tell him until after the kid is born
what a cunt

Problem with arrival is not that the main character, a linguist expert is a woman, its that it is bogged down with the whole dead kid sub plot. It obviously makes sense, and horribly so, her being a woman a dramatic event of loosing a kid later in life would be one of her most important events in life. It also follows the story it was based up, but it really could have done without any of that shit, would have been a much better movie without that crap and instead had flashbacks to her knowing, writing about and teaching the language in the future.
The dead kid shit is completely fucking irreverent to the plot.

How could she have a child with a penisless man?
>>
>>221128593
I waited two hours to see an alien and it was her goddamn father.
>>
PHM because it has colours.
>>
>>221128583
That was in the short story by Chang as well, and in it the aliens came and left for no reason, but in books she experiences everything at once like her daughter's entire life and her daughter dies at the age of 25 in some rock climbing accident

The movie should have removed that entire plot and gender swapped it to a male linguistic expert who has like a divine terror after learning the language

aliens bro
>>
>>221128217
arrival would have been so much better without the retarded shyamalan twist
>>
>>221128694
>Hoomanz (men) are the real monsters
>>
Two relatively equal civilizations discovering each other and working together is more interesting to me than the millionth "benevolent aliens come to earth to enlighten humanity for lulz" flick
>>
>>221128854
I agree it's trite but it wasn't out of benevolence in arrival, they did avoid that.
>>
>>221128629
but was it even real?
>>
>>221128217
Galaxy Quest
>>
>>221128544
>>221128602
The aliens knew about the accident, but still needed a penis prescription. They used Amy Adams as an indirect dick diagnosis, and killed off the resulting test subject as not to further disturb the timeline.

DESU I feel like T2 ended all the alien contact slop. The future is dystopia, and aliens don't fit into it other than as part of a media circus/control mechanism.
