The stuff about language shaping reality was decently interesting even if some people understandably didn't like it.Hail mary isn't bad but it's a very reddit movie. >>221128497Problem with arrival is not that the main character, a linguist expert is a woman, its that it is bogged down with the whole dead kid sub plot. It obviously makes sense, and horribly so, her being a woman a dramatic event of loosing a kid later in life would be one of her most important events in life. It also follows the story it was based up, but it really could have done without any of that shit, would have been a much better movie without that crap and instead had flashbacks to her knowing, writing about and teaching the language in the future.The dead kid shit is completely fucking irreverent to the plot.

Two relatively equal civilizations discovering each other and working together is more interesting to me than the millionth "benevolent aliens come to earth to enlighten humanity for lulz" flick
