Really dull and uninteresting thriller. Bad acting by everyone except Blunt. Very weak and limp themes about truth and religion. Decent set up of mysteries that lead to really disappointing payoffs. Underdeveloped subplots that feel like missed potential. The final scene was genuinely emotional and profound, but it's the only good scene in what's basically a slog of a movie, and even that scene has a cringe ending.

should have had more Noah and Hugo scenes talking about the ethical dilemma of releasing the information.

we have had several instances of government keeping secrets from us (Manhattan Project) due to the sensitive nature of what was being worked on and ramifications on entire world.

The editing was great, the music was great, the acting was great (even the black news reader), the footage was the only good cinematography in the whole movie, the cattle staring at their phones is probably the only realistic thing in the whole picture. Yeah, the entire context surrounding it is contrived bullshit, but the scene itself was very well done.
>>
I ain't seein' that shit, gay
>>
>>221132358
>good guys are friends with bad guys
Does not compute.
>>
>>221133969
I would agree if I thought Spielberg had anything more interesting to say about it, but in the movie we got, I thought the ethical dilemma was one of the worst aspects, and Hugo and Noah the worst characters. I don't think Spielberg was actually interested in that, or if he was, he definitely needs to develop his thoughts more. "The world can't handle it! No, I will not elaborate" vs. "People deserve to know the truth!" is about as lazy as you can get when exploring something like this.

I also thought they were going to flip it so that Hugo was crazy or something and Noah was a good guy. That would have been pretty cliche, but still better than what we actually got.
>>
>>221134143
I can't really disagree with any of this. One of the things that stood out to me the whole movie was how bad the music was (except during the actual disclosure, that was great). The whole movie I kept thinking "man I wish Williams scored this, at least that could have elevated it somewhat." Obviously I was disappointed to find out he did. It felt like imitation Williams.

>>221130095
The most classic story about aliens possible: the grays, Rosewell, abductions, religion ending if people knows that the aliens exist, etc. The only thing that is a little different is that the aliens are trying to help us (well that is what it looks because we don't know what they wanted to say to us) and it's the government who is the bad guys trying to stop them. It was ok but nothing special.

One thing I would have changed is changing Emily Blunt for another actress. I'm sorry but her face looks too weird now. I was kind of tired of her always having the same expression with the mouth open but at least before she was good looking, now I don't know if she had some surgery in her face but her face looks weird.

>these niggas growin weed!.mp4
>all our reactions are dreamlike and unconcerned
>we’re “lost” and don’t care
>keep doing same shit, same roads, same turns, etc.
>end up back where we started
>shrug
>do it again
>eventually taking the same turns on the same roads leads somewhere else
>things start looking weird
>place feels familiar but wrong
>we’re coming into another town we know from the wrong direction
>drive back out to the highway to get gas at the first station we find
>literally run out of gas as we pull up to the pump
>get out, see time on bank clock across the street
>we lost about four hours of time, continuously driving roads that made no sense in a car with no gas

Long and short of it is that we knew we had *maybe* enough gas to make it twenty miles, but instead we “drove” somewhere around six or seven times that distance. It’s a bullshit memory. We both know it is. It’s simply not possible.

I think that if some day aliens come to Earth what people will think first is if they are going to kill us or what do they want. It would be fear what people will feel first not that their religion is over. Even now there are less and less religious people, imagine like thousands of years into the future if this trend continues. I think that people won't be even shocked because we already know it is possible that they exist. Maybe when World of the Worlds was published in 1898 it was shocking for people to think about the possibility of aliens existing but not in 2026 after we have had so many novels and movies about them and also because the general public knows much more about the universe now that back then.

It frames what is essentially demonic possession, and things like abductions/channeling spirits/etc, in a positive light.
Spielberg's TV miniseries does a better job exploring hypothetical motivations for the greys.
>>
>>221135927
The aliens in this look like having good intentions, that's all. They abducted two humans to give them psychic abilities to be able to communicate with them. I don't see where are the demons here.

That runs counter to actual UFO lore where abductions are often remembered as traumatic and often involve unpleasant experiences like probing/semen extraction, genetic tampering, hybrid experiments/etc.

Yes because in this the aliens are portrayed as good. That is the only thing of the movie that is different from the classic aliens lore.

Emily Blunt has demonic powers that were given to her by aliens (demons) and she constantly tells the audience that it "feels good", towards the end one of the women that worked for the black guy flashes the cross sign towards Blunt as if she is a goddess

Also, there is no need of movies to make people be less religious. There are less religious people each generation. Maybe in the 1950s making such a movie could be something shocking but not now. Or hey, just a thought here, but maybe it’s all the religious nutters and conmen repeatedly prophesying the end of the world/Second Coming and being wrong over and over again. I say this as a Christian myself - these people do more harm to Christianity from within than any number of atheists could do from without.
>>
>>221136320
Believing a 2000 year old novel is real is the psyop, retard.
>>
>>221136517
no need to be angry just because you're only now learning of how hard you were brainwashed, kiddo

>>221136505
these conmen have nothing to do with Bible prophesy, there are a lot of things that need to happen before the end of the world, maybe you would know if you were really a Christian?
>>
>>221135010
more like they habe no idea what a nonhumanoid alien would look like
>>
>>221136571
I *do* know that. Non-Christians don’t, and being exposed to the nuts and conmen clamoring for attention makes them think we’re all nuts.
>>
>>221136320
The reason is that in the past religion was present in schools and people learned to be religious since they were children. Now religion is a voluntary activity, you have to be interested in it and go to church to learn about it.

Saving the world? How do we know that? What issues that were leading to WWIII get resolved off screen? It ends before any real reaction occurs because most of the movie was just getting to the title.
>>
>>221130500
I didn't expect War of the Worlds but I expected something original or different, not almost the most classical alien story. But I guess you can't do much about an alien movie because everything has been made already.
>>
>>221131475
theres only one thats not like a leaked video of ayys. ti depicts greys but the finale alien appears to be an old man grey and is like 8 feet tall. otherwise they are pretty much blueprint greys. theres an abduction sequence but it only indirectly depicts ayys (hands n stuff) and theres like 20-30 is clips of leaked military footage of ayy bodies from the roswell crash and ayy autopsies and interrogations and stuff. almost all in the last 20-30 mins of the film. if thats all you care about wait till digital and pirate it. its very obviously written by an out of touch boomer who knows fuckall about math science and what not being filthy rich is like. a weather woman in kansas city can afford a fucking masarati? fuck off.

Those videos of giant alien spaceships coming out of clouds... I can understand the other type of encounters but how is it possible that nobody saw those giant alien spaceships in the sky? Some of them looked like a scene from Independence Day
>>
>>221130095
Really wanted to like this more. The execution was clumsy though, even the famous "oners" were just too histrionic and worked against the form rather than in its favor. Also, North Korea and Russia as the ones who cause WWIII is just plain dishonesty. I don't think a movie feeling of "another time" means it's bad (see Dreyer's Gertrud and Eastwood's Juror #2), but it really felt like an 80-year-old liberal's interpretation of 2026. "Le media" won't save us.
>>
>>221132435
>Angels are aliens
That's the message of the movie.
>>
>>221137047
Also, Shyamalan's Signs is the better "faith x ayys" movie
>>
I think the alien must have tell Margaret something to stop the wars in Earth and unite in peace. Why do I think this?

- Aliens started coming to Earth after WWII. Maybe they said "well lets help these dumb monkeys or they will kill each other with nukes".
- They start this last plan to communicate with humans when WWIII is happening.
- Hugo says the aliens have learned that empathy is the best way to survive or something like that so they seem very pacifist, not warlike.

The movie is legit awful. It's baffling that it was made. I had to Google if Steven Spielberg is retarded. It turns out he's dyslexic, so yeah, he's retarded.
>>
I guess that alien that shows up is one that crashed, survived and was taken by the government for experiments. Then he was liberated by Hugo and his people and since then have been helping them find the humans with the psychic habilites.

Also, some of the scenes of the aliens crashing... I couldn't stop thinking about all the ayylmaos memes and have some laughs watching them xd. That one in the floor struggling to breathe or the other 3 little ayys walking with humans into a tent xddd. Did they comunícate with humans and the humans lied to them to then imprison them?
>>
>>221130321
>Nice. Is the movie really anti-Christan?
I don't know where this came from. It's the opposite of anti-Christian.
One of the underlying themes is how religious people can reconcile their beliefs after learning about something like aliens.
A nun explicitly states that there's nothing in the bible which precludes the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

That nun is a lying whore. Earth is the center of creation. There is no room for aliens in the Christian worldview because God deals exclusively with human beings in His image and the Earth which will be the place Heaven merges with.
>>
>>221138249
I know that is what the movie wanted to say but using that verse of The Bible to say that God could have created other beings in other planets is a little forced. Off course when The Bible was written they said "humans are God's supreme creation ON EARTH" because at that time they never thought of life outside of Earth.

In the scene where Margaret uses her psychic powers to show every person some relative to escape the military base. I get that everyone would get shocked by that but they know that they are dealing with aliens that have those kind of powers, specially Scanlon that have used their technology to get into other people's minds. So I don't understand how they don't react faster and realize it's a trick. Only one of them do it.
>>
>>221139359
the bad guys made no sense, the whole aspect of the government giving all the alien secrets to random company with no oversight is just as dumb. It was so goofy to see all these unarmed paramilitary guys run around unarmed like home alone goons as well.

How come they didnt bring in islam or jewish perspective of aliens? Like its fine to have a scene where the nun / christian discusses life outside of earth but they should have had other figures. The entire movie is around how society, political and religious how they would react

Gr*ys abducted my little sister 25 years ago. They made her watch uninterrupted Fresh Prince of Bel Air for three days straight. And much of that time they were ticking her with their four fingered hands.
As soon as one of the those faggots sets foot on Earth again, or as soon as I developed an intergalactic space shit, it's over for therm. (I know there galaxy address). I just hope I don't have to bother anyone else, ayy or human, while I'm exacting revence.

Yeah it could be, apparently a guy called Lucian of Samosata that wrote a novel titled A True Story around 180 about a voyage to the Moon where there were people there. Something like that. But I still think that the reason they wrote it like that was what I said before.

Spielberg has made some questionable choices over the years despite his success. No choice of his is more questionable than his choice not to cast the famous British sci-fi veteran Warwick Davis as the little girl in the red coat in his magnum opus Schindler's List

Understand that the aliens actually are the bad guys in this movie, they are the witches in the hansel and gretel house, and their final trick is to deceive the audience themselves using a bit of mind control over the presenters.

Also, remember how the CIA guy tries to convince the woman she's doing "good for her country", but he is actually the villain. This relationship is a hint at the true relationship of the aliens to the people they're controlling.
