Kino of the highest order.

I only watch anime movies, not TV shows. Well exception is I watched GitS TV show as I am a GitS fan.

Try the godzilla movies, they are really good, even if a bit strange premise. There is a trilogy of them made not so long ago.

Not only that, I felt totally clickbaited after being done with it, because the iconic picture of her being all smug and sly looking everyone loves posting online and making memes of, it happens only once in the entire show, only in a very short scene, with her looking exactly like OP's picture for rest of it.

Say what you want about the show, but the vibes can't be made again today. It worked for me as some weird 90s experimental show you watch drifting in and out on a couch. Most anime today is overindulgent ADHD brain rotted dogmeal and I shan't watch even a millisecond.

Alex Garland stole music from Lain for 28 Days Later. In one of the final episodes where Lain is talking with the mysterious guy in an alley with an electric pole in the background is the same song that plays when Jim is having the dream where he wakes up alone in the field. I feel like I am crazy because no one has every brought it up but it's real.

I always took this scene as some kind of Christ analogy. Am I skitzo?
>>
>>221133469
I must have missed the part where x files or David Lynch produce a show about the schumann resonance bringing a textbook accurate depiction of Jung's collective unconscious into existence and merging it with Internet culture to a T decades before it ever reached such a point.

It's sad that a show which actually has an extremely detailed and coherent plot is written off as even remotely as nonsensical as Lynch of all things just because 99% of people are straight up illiterate and incapable of basic media analysis.

They literally included an episode which spells out the entire plot of the show in no uncertain terms (infonography) and people STILL want to claim it's all nonsense. Are you actually just retarded? Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.
>>
>>221141905
It's definitely trying to evoke Christ
Fun fact: the phrase the dad says "we'll have tea with madeleines" is a reference to Proust's "In Search of Lost Time".
The book describes what's now called a madeleine moment or "involuntary memory", such as when you bite into a food from your childhood and have a flood of memories come rushing back.

Basically it's talking about how despite the fact that Lain erased herself she can't erase the way she made others feel and the way she impacted them, at least not completely.
This is why Alice says she feels like she knows Lain when they meet on the bridge despite the fact that she literally rewrote reality so that Alice is old enough to date her teacher.

Lain says "I'll always be with you" or something like that because she knows that she wasn't fully erased and still exists in the unconscious of her friends
>>
>>221141905
>33 KB JPG
> I always took this scene as some kind of Christ analogy. Am I skitzo?
No.
>>
>>221134034
See what I mean about retards who are probably straight up illiterate calling it nonsense? The show explicitly tells you the entire plot with an entire episode devoted to the narrator explaining it and they still act like it's "lol so randumb"

I get saying you don't understand it, but saying it doesn't make sense is one of the biggest pseud indicators I've ever seen. They spell it out for you in plain English. Maybe the subtitles are too fast for them to read? You'd be surprised how many people just can't read subtitles fast enough and so they miss out on parts of a show and blame the show for it lol.
>>
>>221133469
I don't see the X Files comparison at all
>>
>>221133227

this is exactly why it's terrible art that only appeals to the autistic. thirty seconds of looney tunes dropping anvils on each other is far more valuable than hours of jungian horseshit being explained to you over barely animated still drawings.

Its actually mind-blowing to me that so many double digit iq posters here still cite "lynch is le nonsensical" and expect to be taken seriously, you can criticize lynch and have the opinion that his style is ineffective or tedious but everything hes ever made has quite obvious substance and purpose for the plot, themes and emotion that his films are conveying and the fact that you'd name drop Jung and somehow still fail to understand Lynch at all tells me that youre just parroting shit you dont understand (a shame, you seemed an honest man)

>>
>>221147449
>nonsensical as his quintessential work.
Blue Velvet is "nonsensical"? Elephant Man? I just named his two best films and they are as straight forward as they come. Nobody looks at his later shit as "quintessential". That's just objectively false.
>>
>>221147056
Lynch literally writes movies based on dreams without knowing the ending and you think it's comparable to something with a straightforward plot?

Even Lynch wouldn't agree his stuff "makes sense" in a traditional sense, that's not what he's attempting to do at all with his work. What is this cope?

when that isn't what you just said in the post I'm replying to you fucking idiot. You didn't say shit about Lynch being quintessentially "dreamlike" in that post or anything about the definition of Lynchian. To me that's part of the mood, the convoluted technobabble helps you zone out, it's like listening to a philosophy lecture. Not gonna claim the vast majority of it isn't nonsense, but there were interesting ideas in there. Trigun is one of the few Shounen's that's not completely terrible, in fact it's quite watchable even if you're not a 12 year old. (I'm 45 for eg).

There's about half a dozen shounen's that are decent, so that makes Trigun an extreme rarity.

Yeah the anime SUCKS. The manga is much better and gets stronger and stronger. I'm around chapter 50 now and really enjoying it, however have been told to stop after the Kyoto arc as that is a self contained storyline and the author only continued it afterwards due to demand.

I heard the anime picks up too around the Kyoto arc and may give it a shot some time, but for now the manga is good. The coloured version is easy to find online, and although I usually prefer manga in black and white, the coloured version has really grown on me

these messages arent meant to be told in a 12+ episode anime they have barely enough substance for a movie, thats why perfect blue for example works perfectly
nice pacing, good story and ends fast enough for you to crave for just a second more
now can you imagine pefect blue but they added 2 hours filler of her being an idol or some shit?

Macross Plus and Macross Do you Remember Love are both 11/10
Golgo 13 The Professional and Golgo 13 Queen Bee (literally just anime versions of bad ass crime drama movies)
11-nin-iru (spaceship mystery drama)

Boogiepop Phantom is better than SEL imo. I really love BP's vibe. Sure, it has the same problem of a confusing plot mostly carried by it's atmosphere, but BP does a better job at it. Good music and love the way the anime looks dreamy. The newer one is kinda trash from what I gathered tho.

ngl I don't think I could recommend Lucky Star to any zoomer. What makes Lucky Star good is having watched the previous 3-5 years of anime to get all the references. It's like watching Carnival Phantasm without having read Tsukihime or Fate/Stay Night.

Yeah, I was never that much into anime in my youth, and I recently started watching Lucky Star. I don't get it at all, and I don't like how masturbatory it feels.

A lot of the punchlines are simply the voice actors saying quotes from other anime they were recently in, but in a more lax tone since it's in a high school setting. It's a celebration of late 90's/early 00's anime

The ending of Episode 8 Happy Family Planning had a profound impact on me.

The girls reaction and the way their singing fades into silence, I don't know and can't explain why but it was overwhelming and made me cry...

Baccano has the best dub of all time.

If you aren't familiar, the setting is prohibition era America and everyone has proper accents in the English dub.

There are a ton of bad shows on this list. Akiba's Trip? Steins;Gate? Demon Slayer? Really?

>good dub
No such animal

I used to believe that, truly. There's like 2 or 3 anime out of 200 that I'd watch dubbed over subbed, and Baccano is one of them since it's actually set in America and the characters are improved with New Jersey accents.

some anime are genuinely inferior experiences in japanese. it just happens that of course most of the time it's the other way around and the english dub is cringe shit.
death note, cowboy bebop and ghost in the shell are way better in english for example

Lain is the antithesis of Gnosticism, retard. The main villain is an outright stand in for a demiurge figure too stupid to know they're not a god and not in control.
Lain is the Logos.
Media literacy itt is abysmal.
Simon de Montfort did nothing wrong.

Gay ass shaming only works on reddit, comrade.
I used to be a gnostic faggot but once I actually read some metaphysics I quickly dropped that garbage on it's head. Gnosticism is a litmus test of being stuck at being midwit or not.

Out of curiosity, what did you ended up choosing instead?
