What made Barbosa such a good character?
He is a morally complex character who does evil deeds but has sympathetic motives. He is also naturally charismatic.
>>221153098acting performance.
>>221153021He's just having a blast the whole time
>>221153021He represents the pirate concept that made the first movie great and also scared the hell out of Disney moms. The burning ship and moldy skeletons at the beginning establish that the fate of a pirate is dread, their lives are forfeit and efficient military forces are always hunting them. They hide in fog-bound islands and feverish jungle anchorages, sustained only by blood that flows through the sea, like flies on cattle. That criminal environment creates hard cunts like Jack and Barbossa, not just killers but resourceful, freedom-loving, and honorable to others who share their struggle to survive at sea. Only the strong can be pirates as described, so they aren't really villains. Their brutality is more like a result of their circumstances. It's a perfect storm of bad messaging from a family film perspective, they're rowdy adult men who do horrible sex things and commit crime, but it's not really their fault. The complexity of Barbossa's relationship to Jack, where each effectively killed the other once (making them even) is another part of that.
geoffrey rush is a good actor and giving a good performance in at least 1-3, in 4 the character has some moments like the seagulls nesting bit and i never watched 5
>>221153021the actor is great. i forgot his name. he played vincent price well in house on haunted hill.
>>221153446god that film is kino
>>221153021That monkey must have died from old age by now.

>>221153553Davy Jones had a great intro toohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp1rS_UAvjs
>>221153021The actor. He’s fucking fantastic.
Shame they brought him back in the embarrassing sequels. Curse of the Black Pearl could've been a kino one-off, or a great beginning for a Pirate-themed anthology.>Hey you know that guy who spent 30 years pillaging, raiding, murdering and raping ports and ships? He's a good guy nowFuck off
>>221153546lil bro is really going full Gosling for the mother fucking easter bunny
>>221154122>He's a good guy nowYou didn't watch the films.
>>221153526Erm, actually, that line is said by Elizabeth.Barbossa only says something like "That's exactly what I thought when I first heard the tale".
>>221154282How often do the protagonists try and kill him?
>>221154516What the fuck are you talking about my friend and fellow nigger?https://youtu.be/1fzXmJyolfY?si=azy7kpBf0GfHSFxL
Wasn't most of the second movie ad-lib
>>221154743leave politics out of this
I like him, and his actor - but his death in the first was really good and I wish he'd just stayed dead.
>>221154674I was thinking of this one:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uExBNNPNVU0&t=45s
>>221154822>but his death in the first was really goodSo was the twist at the end of the second one though. Yeah, they failed to deliver after, but that actually defines the third movie as a whole.
Reminder that he was so good of a character that the hooking twist at the end of 2 was his return.
>>221154822>his death in the first was really good and I wish he'd just stayed dead. But it was too sad. I felt bad for him.
>>221154929How the hell did he come back anyway?
>>221154822I feel... cold
>>221154628Barbossa is in second movie for like 5 seconds at the end, in third Jack tries to kill him the very moment he thinks he doesn't need him anymore. They have a standoff on the deck talking a whole bunch but Jack actually pulls the trigger first. They do stop fighting directly after that but still hate each other. Barbossa also swings his sword at Jack later on but that's arguably calculated to steal the piece of eight. At the end Barbossa also steals Black Pearl yet again and the only reason he doesn't kill Jack is because Jack isn't around for it.The fourth movie they again sort of work together but it's clear they don't really trust each other outside of using each other to get to what they want, but fourth is already where the rot has begun to set in the franchise, so...The fifth movie is so fucked with how the characters are portrayed it's hard to argue about it at all.
>>221155770Compelled by black pussy
>>221153098>has sympathetic motivesI like apples too, but I don't think it justified being a murderous backstabbing thief.
>>221153347>i never watched 5Best leave it that way.
>>221154516What kind of shit post is this the quote is exactly>You best start believing in ghost stories... You're in one!One of the most famous movies quotes of the past quarter century
>>221153021Geoffrey rush
>>221156631hes a cool dude
>>221153504But you being indian, very real.
>>221156631
>>221154122>you know that guy who spent 30 years pillaging, raiding, murdering and raping ports and shipsDoesn't make him any different from the other pirates they ally with in the third movie because they have to band together or they'll all get wiped out by the true evil, Beckett and the East India Trading Company.
>>221153021Geoffry Rush's performance. See also Quills where he plays the marquis de Sade with equal charm.
>>221155770He was so evil hell itself spat him back out, this was established in the first film.
>>221153474It was sold to asians who fed him in front of caged rhesus macaques
>>221153306>scaredscaroused
>>221155964This guy doesn't fuck.
>>221153021The actor did a lot of the work but as a character he's pretty much just trying to survive after the first movie. It's the same with Gibbs. Both of them enjoy the idea of being a pirate. Barbossa enjoys the more pirate like things, raiding, piracy, etcGibbs is more about being at seaNeither can really live on land anymore but both are aware that the heyday of piracy is coming to an end and make peace with it in different ways. Gibbs stays loyal to Jack and knows Jack is giving him more adventures to feed his addiction to mythology and stories and Barbossa doesn't count after Blackbeard's movie since the next movie was slop
