>>221165927Ummm Marcus sucked though. He's a pathetic loser simp, which would be okay if us pathetic losers in the audience were meant to identify with that, but instead the delusional writers try to trick us into believing that he's actually cool somehow.

So, the reason they went with her over someone who could actually do a Russian accent was because she was banging Straczynski right?
>>221166248I don't know about that, but she was written out because she refused JMS's penis.
Make everyone on station GREEN! Space all purple fags.
Marcus was kind of a goofy Gary Stu at first bit imo he definitely found his place by the end. Him getting his ass beat by that Minbari guy but refusing to give up was great, and by the Mars arc he was genuinely engaging. They were gonna have to make a ranger character and it was kind of inevitable that he would be a doo gooder super spy type character, having him be kind of a dweeb added to that. His love for Ivanova definitely should have been developed more though, especially since he literally killed himself for her

>>221165662I want a lot of things but mostly I just want to feel the joy of an anticipated future where were all all going to be using flying cars and eating cool futuristic foods.
>>221165765Now that I think about it we never got to see the shadussy. They were so spiny, I wonder how they reproduced.
>>221165890>I want 300 posts about Babylon 5, and none of them seething about Star Trek. From my experience it's usually the other way round. We're comfy here but inevitably some fag comes around and starts talking shit about how ds9 is better and how much more money they had for cgi and other bullshit reasons funny they never try to defend the story though. I think it's just that obvious that nothing comes close to the depth of story JMS came up with.
>>221165927>For my African American friend Franklin to have more consistent characterization throughout the seriesI'm curious what about his characterization do you take issue with? I'll admit he wasn't one of my favorites so I never gave it much thought but I thought he generally stayed true to himself and when he didn't he usually paid some sort of price.
>>221169009He had 2 emotional states: self-righteous and brooding
>>221166301>His love for Ivanova definitely should have been developed more though, especially since he literally killed himself for herIt did make the scene where Ivonava and Franklin were talking about it that much more gut wrenching. >I should have at least boffed himBoth of them knew how they felt about the other but didn't have the time to do anything with it and both had personality issues. By the time they were just starting to get past them it was too late. It sucked but I think it was also tragically beautiful in a way. I take some issue with people throwing around the term simp so lightly. We usually think about it in modern times when we are thinking about worthless whores who have no problem sleeping around and being garbage people. I have a lot less of a problem with men "simping" for a good woman who has a her life together and could eventually be a great mother for your children or at least a good life partner.
>avoids the ST typecast
>>221169038Hmm that's probably true, either way the doctor of a show rarely gets enough time to make a lasting impression. I'm still glad he got a decent handful of moments to shine and like others mentioned his scenes with Marcus were the highlight of the mars arc.
>>221168674I wanted more scenes with vir and linnier talking about their problems.
>>221169160These two were always my favorites. The ones actually getting shitThey did my boy Lennier so dirty at the very fucking end for no damn reason
>>221167153Sharidan was kind of a stock cowboy character but I feel like he gained extra depth through his connection to Delenn. My most recent rewatch was with my friend I was finally able to talk into watching the show. I was afraid it wouldn't click for him but he stuck with it and loved it by the end. One of the things he mentioned was how much he enjoyed their relationship and how real it felt. They were truly as close to a perfect couple as I can imagine being possible to do outside of a book.
>>221168735I get that they got cancelled and then uncancelled so they had to rush season 5 out the door but damn, the Byron arc that goes absolutely nowhere and wastes half a season is the low point of the series for meWhich is a shame, because as an oldfag who logged over 1500 hours in TF2 back in the day I have a soft spot for Robin Atkin Downes, who did the best he could with what he was given. It's not his fault his character was filler bullshit
>>221169413Sinclair was the one who got me hooked on the show initially, so when they swapped him out at the beginning of season 2 I was taken aback and resented Sheridan for a long time. But he did grow on me and eventually I came around on him, probably around the time he 9/11s Zha’ha’DumI know the background and why the swap out happened but damn, imagine who much more powerful the Valen reveal would have been if Sinclair had been the captain for three seasons
>>221169097Bester was imo his best role ever. He showed such range and talent in the little eps we got with him. i wanted a whole spin-off on him and the psi-core but mainly him.
>>221169594I was kind of the same, seeing the first eps of S1 here and there in syndication back in the day but being busy working long hours wasnt ever able to keep up and when i saw it again, there was Boxleitner and i was like wtf is going on? I like Bruce, always have so kept watching and am glad I did because I love his Sheridan and imo Sinclair was given a hell of an honor by Joe writing him as Valen, so its a win/win for me.
>>221165662Give me $1000
>>221169497>Robin Atkin Downes>byron is the medicfucking watim reeling from this revelation anon
>>221169726there's a trilogy (i think) of books about his fate after the show ended and its basically garibaldi hunting him down as a war criminalhavent read them but id like to
>>221170234> hunting him down as a war criminalOr hell just for what he did to him would be reason enough for me
>>221170313thats why garibaldi is in charge of the hunt from my understanding, but the anon who mentioned the books to me said psycorp gets taken to nurembourg basically and their top brass and most active agents all go to ground like nazis in the ratline
>>221170217You can't blame the actor for being handed a bad scriptYou can't blame JMS for shitting out a bad script because the network told him he was cancelled for for months then told him "Nevermind you have half the time you usually have to produce a season, get to it"You can absolutely blame Warner Brothers
i watched this show when i was a kid and loved it

>>221170448All yours my friend
>>221170386no i can blame JMS on that one, it was straight up character assassination for lennier to blow his lid and act out of characterthere were so many options for him, stepping up from the devoted attendant to delenn to a more important job without herhave him appointed to lead the white star fleethave him be next in line to take over the great machine on the planethave him elected to the grey councilthis minbari saved the life of londo, he deserved better
>>221170498NTA but to be fair it was pretty well established that Minbari culture made a lot of them repressed and neurotic, and he'd already expressed unrequited love for Delenn I liked Lennier too but it was clear that he followed Delenn because he loved her, not because he agreed with everything she did, and he didn't like Sheridan

>>221170605I really really really like this image
i love the starfury design
>>221170498I was talking about Robin Atkin Downes dealing with being handed the worst arc of the series, but whateverI will agree with you 100 percent about Lennier's finale. Total fucking bullshit. If they had built up to it AT ALL I would have accepted it. Him loving Delenn was established, but he was always a loyal soldier. To have him turn on Sheridan at the last second, even if he immediately regretted it and tried to fix things, was some ol' bullshit
>>221169070Then B5 is not the show for you, since what you want is totally against the general theme of the show. However, you should emulate what President Clark did in the end.

>>221171281Something something Shadow assistance.
>>221171281The shadows did the heavy lifting for them. Also, the Narn were a lot of bluster for little action. Their weapons were Centauri weapons.
How about a nice game of chess?
>>221170977I thankfully don't remember that.
>>221165662I want cheese. I want a cheese nachos platter that is SOAKING in grease. I want a vegetable to not be within 100 feet of my nachos. I want sour cream piled 5 inches high. I want fajita meat ontop of the nachos. I want so many nachos I have to struggle NOT to throw them up. And want it for extremely cheap
>>221171281The narn had very little space and lots of manpower. The centauri had a lot of space to defend and a peacenik emperor. If the Narn went full force against the centauri, even without the shadow help, they still probably wouldn't have won. They were just plucky and focusing on capturing particular border systems. That's the in universe explanation. The real one is that JMS wanted to flip their places after S1, to allow for Londo and Gqar to have their unprecedented character arcs.
>>221170234The first book is about the formation of the Psi Corps, the second one is about Bester's time with the Psi Corps, half of which takes place when he's a kid and teenager. He turns in one of his girlfriends to the Psicorps because she wants to run away. The last book mostly takes place after B5 with him in hiding. Only one of two paragraphs in the entire trilogy talks about the Telepath War so we never know what happened there.
My shoes are too tight
>>221171157>how can you shoot women and children?>easy! Just don't lead them as much!
>>221170571All true and I was even fine with the temptation but I believe the character that they had built up and shown us would never have made the choice to leave Sheridan to die. I could easily see him struggling in the moment with the temptation but I know 100% he would have made the right choice he was that kind of man. It really was a character assassination and judging by the rest of the garbage JMS made he clearly has a cuck fetish and wanted to self insert into Lennier. It's a black mark on an almost perfect story, thankfully that and the psychic bullshit is all contained in the final non season which can mostly be forgotten. It's a shame one of the best episodes of the whole series is in season five but it's also an incredible accomplishment. Most stories struggle to have one good ending and somehow B5 looked at that challenge and said hold my beer and came out with two endings both of which beat almost anything out there even in literature.
>>221173565I'm a sucker for tragic characters, Londo was unforgettable. I love one and done actors who just show up out of nowhere and turn in the performance of their lives and then fade away leaving an untarnished record of pure unadulterated kino. It will probably never happen but I hope to meet him before he goes beyond the rim.
