have you seen the movie uncle buck it's about this guy called buck who is an uncle
>>
Yes many times and it’s kino
>>
Was he a pedo?
>>
I don’t get why everyone saw Buck as some sort of nightmare of a person. He seemed really nice to everyone unless they were threatening to family. Not just relatives being freaked out by him but so many shots of strangers being startled by just the sight of him
>>
>>221166340
it was a different time
>>
>>221166314
Same here
Comfy winter movie to watch on a random winter day that's not Saturday or Sunday or Friday.

>>
>>221166457
That's just Chicagoan
>>
>>221166349
He was unconventional and from the looks of it hung out with some less than desirable people as evidenced by the guy trying to hit on his niece in the bowling alley. It's the kind of thing that's mostly not a big deal but if you grow up in a safe neighborhood and are never exposed to anything remotely bad he's a bit of a culture shock.
>>
>>221168769
I prefer Great Outdoors but do like Summer Rental too. I just don't like the part of Summer Rental when it becomes just about the boat race crap.

He’s a drunk whose regularly unemployed and is friends with some sketchy characters (characters who for instance hit on highschool girls at bowling allies and know whose going tommorow a horse race ahead of time).
None of this is really issue if your a dude, especially a dude who doesn’t have kids, but it’s the sort of person most women absolutely despise.
They don’t want their husbands hanging out with them and becoming bums themselves, they don’t want their kids to have a bad example.
>>
>>221168845
That did that same shit in on One Crazy Summer.
The 80s offshore boat racing craze was going on.

>>
>>221168845
Great Outdoors has the boring ass subplot of his older kid trying to get a girlfriend too. The comedy comes to a screeching halt any time those two are on the screen
>>
>>221166295
I was born in 1980 so yeah i saw it about 100 times growing up.
Not sure why, i never liked it. I don't even remember anything about it except one part where he accidentally knocks a bunch of things over when he's trying to be quiet, and it makes a lot of loud noise, and the punchline of the entire scene (that goes on for an awkwardly long time) is just a close up shot of john candy saying "Shit". And it's meant to be hilarious....

Can't stand any of those 80s comedies starring goons from SNL.

i never realized this lady was Carmela Soprano's mother. The guy that plays Mustang Sally is Buck's buddy at the bowling alley. I guess the mother from this was in The Sopranos too but I have no idea what character she played.

tbf that guy wasn't his friend though. He's just some other dude in the bowling league/alley, with a sketchy background. Hence why Buck treats him with utter disdain.

Did you even watch the movie, Buck had a major moral failing when he loaded up the children in his car and was about to take them to a racetrack so he could bet on a fixed horse race, he was going to have to leave them unattended in the parking lot and who knows if the kids would end up being safe or not for the time it would take him to place the bet and collect

John Hughes always had such corny moments that didn’t feel earned. In both this movie and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles have the moment when someone comes home at the end and they just stand and smile at each other. Nobody gave a fuck about the mom in this

Yeah, I never got that either. I didn't hate her, and she definitely deserved an apology from the girl. But at the same time, I always felt like she should've apologized to Buck because he really did come through for her when she needed it, and went above and beyond looking after those kids. She just seemed needlessly judgmental of the guy. I don't know, maybe I just like the guy too much despite his flaws.

The moment was earned. Mom couldn't connect with her daughter because the daughter was stuck up and had no life experience. She didn't know how good she had it, and she never had to actually deign to try and put herself in someone else's shoes. Why look at someone else's point of view when you can just be a bitch and do your own thing?

Buck was what she would've become if she had just kept being a selfish cunt. He was truly a kindred spirit, and it took clashing with him head on multiple times to figure that out. When he came through in the clutch for her, it became clear that if someone like him could do something selfless like that, she could stand to defrost a bit and cut her mom some slack, too. Because her mom did care.

I love the cartoonish scenes dropped into otherwise mostly-grounded movies of the era. This, the skeleton in Home Alone, and the sledding scene in Christmas Vacation are too absurd to not make me laugh.
>>
>>221166349
Buck was rough around the edges. Sheltered people who live in a bubble generally can't stand anyone who engages in even mildly disreputable behaviour..

>>221172744
The whole movie has a sort of disjointed feeling, like it just goes from one self-contained scene to another with no real overarching connection, which makes the ending feel very abrupt. It's frustrating because it could have been Hughes' best film. A fair amount of stuff was left out of the final cut, but who knows if any of it would have made a difference. It's still my favourite of his movies, regardless.
>>
>>221166340

I resent that the title ‘uncle’ is strongly associated with seedy, possibly pedo, behavior. Aren’t there a lot of predatory aunts too?

My brother is seriously a cucked faggot. I wasn’t allowed to go to their house for Christmas a few years ago because I’m unvaxxed so I bought my nephews a basketball hoop and targets with BB handguns and bathrobes with Patrick Bateman on them and they were the best gifts they got that year and now they see me as a legend and they see their dad as an even bigger faggot, my brother is a sneaker faggot that collects Nike shoes and he buys them off Temu. Becoming Uncle Buck is a good choice to make in life.
>>
>>221175491

I find it interesting how much this movie's reputation and popularity has grown with other people my age. I thought it was only popular in the Midwest but it's apparently a pretty beloved film regardless of location or ethnicity here when it used to be considered one of the weaker Hughes movies.
I'm all for it of course, it's Hughes kino in its purest form.
