Admit it. These three movies are hilariously awful.
I was alive when they came out and when the reviews for them came out, which were universally bad, if mediocre at best.
>>221172946Phantom menace is my favorite Star Wars movie
>>2211729461 is bordering "so bad it's good" but has so much shit in it to keep it out of that territory2 is too boring to even worth talking about3 is actually "so bad it's good"
I also remember the moment I told my kid sister that I thought they weren't very good. She started crying, and came at me with her tiny little fists.
>>2211729761 is boring as fuck. Its not even so bad its good tier 2 is boring and extremely cringey 3 is decent only because of the low bar the other two movies set
>>221172992you are correct, if revenge of the sith was a standalone generic sci fi no one would give a fuck. however, the way it culminates from all 5 films before it and goes so over the top pants-on-head retarded and has tons of completely unhinged dialogue makes it too much fun to point and laugh at.
>>221172946pic unrelated?
>>221172946I find them all very entertaining. And since they entertain me, that means they are good movies.
>>221172946II > I > V > IV > III > VII've had this opinion since I was a child.
>>221172946I can't, I haven't watched them.And I won't, they look childish and shitty. And its fans don't help.
Mark Kermode was one of the O.G. prequel haters. regularly said he just never 'got' Star Wars in general, but he came around to it over the years.for the recent re-releases, he re-reviewed Revenge of the Sith:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEyY26VEdy0why can't guys like RedLetterMedia be this mature?
>>221173055Attack of the Clones is not even a movie. It's just filler. It was George cashing in, and not even trying. It is just too bad he can't take his gorillions down to hell with him.
>>221173055VI > II > III > V > I > IV
Attack of the Clones is the best Star Wars movie and I'm tired of pretending its not.

>>221172946Wouldn't it be awesome if Luke went back in time and murdered this annoying little faggot thereby wiping Anakin and himself out of existence and completely obliterating the entire Star Wars canonI mean it's fucked beyond repair anyway so why not
Star Wars was a one-off thing. Something that had never been seen before, up to that point, in human history. Once you've gone there, every further iteration of it is going to be derivative.
>>221172946i kinda like rots despite the awful dialogue but yeah tpm and aotc are awfuli also sorta find the prequel era worldbuilding more interesting than the ot even if i think the ot are better films
>>221173113It's the only Star Wars movie that really nails that old Hollywood sweeping, grandiose epic feeling.
>>221173200this was the worst response out of the three i got
>>221173113>name one thing that happens in it that is interestingthe seismic charges sound effect.also this piece of music:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wMiMDBHnJ0i buy the romance. i mean, it's two young people sat in a field, talking about life n stuff. Padmé talking about how she lost her virginity to a buy at politics camp. that's how it'd go down in a twee French film.the Plinkett section on that is weird as hell. yeah no shit it's a bit 'lofty', it's the same thing that made the Spider-Man flicks good. talking in faux-Shakespearean dialogue rather than just saying, 'hey, can i get your number? wanna go to Dexter Jettster's at the weekend? x'
>>221172960I hate them but that's not true (that's impossible). All the basic bitch newspaper critics thought they were good enough kid's movies.
>>221172946They're pretty much of the exact same quality as the OG films. Same highs, same lows.
>>221173258just with Attack of the Clones and Return of the Jedi swapped around. RotJ is the worst one with pointless action i don't care about, same goes for AotC.meanwhile, Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back are darker and have genuine pathos AND good action set pieces. i'm glad RotS came at the end. nothing sucks like a trilogy that peaks in the middle (or the start: The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix both started great, then had two equally lacklustre sequels).
>>221173077Yep.People say the CGI aged badly but they're wrong because the CGI looked every bit as terrible when the movie first came out. Everything looks so fake.
>>221173349I don't remember anyone saying how amazing they thought the special effects were, at the time. AI can do better today.
>>221173349PS2 games were all the rage at the time. I suppose they thought all the kids would go:>THIS IS JUST LIKE MY PS2 GAME>JAWWWSEOME
>>221173349It's fine if you don't look at it
>>221173349how special effects 'age' is an interesting conversation. like stop motion looks jerky, it always looked that way: Ray Harryhausen's dinosaurs and skeletons clearly aren't 'there'. you can tell in an old film when it uses rear-screen projection for a driving scene, etc.watch the theatrical version of the OT and you might appreciate some of the Special Edition changes. just touching up the way elements were composited and so on.but the CGI, i'll always give credit for. legitimately groundbreaking having dozens/hundreds of actors with hair + cloth simulation on screen, the same Massive software which led to the Lord of the Rings battle scenes people say look great (no, they're just at night, Star Wars was brave enough to show them in daylight).remember: CGI wasn't the boogeyman at one point. HAVING CGI in your film was a draw. there was that Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow film, entirely on green-screen, that was its unique selling point. very stylish flick.just go rewatch The Phantom Menace and focus on Jar Jar. the way he moves, the way his clothes and tentrils moves, the way his shadows confirm perfectly to buildings. the technology was crazy and i still think it looks great. Attack of the Clones probably overdid it with some of the monsters and camera moves. starts to break your suspension of disbelief, usually just when there's too much stuff at once.
3, 4 and 5 are the only good Star Wars films.
>>221173485ohh we're getting a lecture from the industry insiders...
>>221173485
>>221173484Yeah the movie's great if you just shut your eyes and turn the volume all the way down
>>221172946This fucking retard didnt know they got the same guy to play the emperor in the prequels as in ROTJ until revenge of the sith lmao
>>221172946Just imagine being alive back then. You've been looking forward to this film for a year. You've been a star wars fan since you were a child, maybe you even saw the originals in the theater? Finally, the night comes. It's like Christmas morning. You sit down to watch, the lights dim, and that familiar music plays. Then this is literally the first paragraph you read.
>>221173611i did not know this either until right now desu
>>221173485All this workAll this knowhowAll these manhoursAll this potentialJust to produce star wars prequelsMeanwhile the odyssey is getting a sequel right now
>>221173485Dozens and hundreds of CGI creatures in the frame at any given time (in reference to the post you replied to) and it serves no purpose to the action or the story. It's just distracting visual noise, an illusion of production value, that's irrelevant to what the characters are doing. It doesn't matter if it is groundbreaking when the movie would be better removing 90% of the clutter.
>>221172946The laziness of the writing is staggering. Amateurish mistakes that you'd expect from a rough draft, not the final product.
>I want the audience to never know the character of anakin as a good person, hes going to be a dick from day one.
Mike apologized. Prequal haters lost. George won. Its over.
>>221173809lmao you can't even spell prequel
>>221172986Kek is she autistic or just retarted
I don't know why it's so much more fun to shit on prequels than sequels. I think it's because everyone agrees that the sequels were all PERRO CACA. Meanwhile, there is still a stalwart who, hope-against-hope, ardently believes their childhood favorite movies were misjudged. It is really fun to pick at them and their ironclad, yet clearly naive beliefs.
>>221172946no that’s your life OP
>>221173896Star Wars generations are replacements for religions.
>>221173784Based.
>>221173896The sequels are soulless cash grabs. The prequels are one of those really long books written and self-published by an elderly schizophrenic that some blogger stumbles upon and ironically hypes up as being secretly genius because it has so much shit in it that a sane person would never think of, 95% of which actually makes for terrible reading.
>>221174153>The sequels are soulless cash grabs.to be fair, JJ set the trilogy quite well to be even, dare I say, kino in the end... and then the evil Rian Johnson came along, with such hatred for star wars.
>>221172946yes they are. been saying that since 2005
>>221174223>>221172946I still remember the day I saw The Phantom Menace at the Chinese theater. From the very first line spoken, I knew something was off. When It ended, I was left feeling nothing. Something was deeply wrong and it was so traumatic that I couldn't even admit it. It took years to wake up to it.
>>221172946They're not good but they're still better than 95% of Best of the Worst movies so I don't know why Mike is still so hung up about them

>>221174741
>>221172960the reviews themselves were universal bad, if mediocre at best?
>>221172946I'm a 1991 unc and I remember feeling there was something off about these movies when I saw them in the theaters, especially JarJar and Gungans in general. I was a big Star Wars kid too because they had those releases combined with a bunch of toys released in the 90s. I think the generation that loves these is more the zoomers who grew up with the Clone Wars series. It does a good job rehabilitating this whole period of Star Wars history that looked way too goofy and stupid in the live action movies.
>>221172946I never gave much thought to Star Wars because I didn't get the deep intergalactic politics and mythology when I first watched it. It was only after taking in a million other fiction and non fiction could I see Star Wars for what they are, which is some of the best storytelling ever made.
The actual problem with these movies is that they are awful but they AREN'T hilarious. Watching the RLM vids and all the parodies and memes might trick you into thinking the prequels are "so bad it's good" movies. But then you actually rewatch them and realise they're not at all. They're just fucking bad and boring.
>>221172946>These three movies are hilariously awful. That you typed this tells me that you never saw a single second of those movies.
>>221172946The OST for the prequels are a banger, the only thing that's honestly better than the originals in my opinion. Other than that, the originals are still the best.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP-Phg1hey0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkcckaBAoKUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wMiMDBHnJ0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHuD5y-PZM0
>>2211729923 is actually far and away the worst of the prequels. They're all bad but 1 and 2 at least have tiny nuggets of "this could have been expanded into something cool". 3 is retarded shitty rushed homework that does nothing good or interesting and is just a last minute desperate attempt to tie everything back to the OT after fucking up the first 2 prequels.
>>221173113>name one thing that happens in it that is interestingSee image.
>>221173055Why do you like AOTC so much?
>>221173113Obi Wan's hair
The whole vibe of these movies and Star Wars in general was poisoned forever by giving the Jedi those stupid desert robes. One of the worst creative decisions of all time.
>>221173200Now that I think about it, it does feel that way too.
>>221173055dumb ass kid
>>221172946There's nothing hilarious about them, they range from mediocre to ok with a few high points. The only hilarious thing about the prequels was the seething manbabies losing their minds like toddlers and pretending they were the worse things in the world.
Sure, for sci-fi flicks they're ok. Of course these rode on the coattail of the OT, wouldn't have made it past Phantom Menace otherwise
>>221172946And yet the Yidsney sequels made them look like pure kino, that just shows how bad the newest movies were, beyond terrible they were pure dogshit
the OST is pretty good. other than that they're not even fun to watch for how bad they are because they're just very boring overall. i always thought the prequel defending was a funny meme to piss off people but it's been going on for so long i'm not sure anymore. doesn't help that there are genuine youtube video essayists who praise these movies unironically.
>>221172946no
>>221172946Only the third one is even funny at all. The first two are a boring kind of bad.
>>221172946The Room is hilariously awful. The prequels are only bad to Gen Xers who never grew up. To everyone else, they are entertaining schlock.
Is anyone else getting tired of the whole "glup shitto" thing? It's getting old by this point. It feels so so brainrotted and soulless that people now feel obligated to say this whenever a non-main character appears on-screen.
>>221172946>admit itThis is generally accepted as fact, OP.
>>221172946They had some interesting set pieces but they all seemed unconnected to anything else and none of the characters were all that memorable or likable Like the pod race sequence was cool...I couldn't tell you why there was one though.Anakin and Kenobi fight on lava planet was cool...I have no idea why they were fighting.
>>221172946TPM is the only prequel I still like, especially the theatrical cut with film grain still intact as well as meth puppet Yoda, the podrace has better pacing toohttps://youtu.be/QKVNaGpJEHU?si=VVkHMtD4p2dp4mH6
>>221178238"Glup Shitto" becoming part of the cultural lexicon is just symptomatic of the fact that Star Wars is seen as a joke nowadays

>>221172960I remember them generally being on the "it's okay" side. Then there was episode 2 and they were "yes the first one sucked but this one is okay". Then episode 3 hit and they were "yeah it's been shit until now but this one's really worth seeing!".
>>221172946I would argue the special edition changes to the OT make them almost more difficult to watch than the PT.
Even with Rifftrax watching Attack of the Clones is painful.

>>221174207JJ Abrams is the soulless corpo drone. The only memorable stuff in the sequel trilogy, even if for bad reasons, is in TLJ.
>>221176216This. I'm so confused that people over the age of 12 defend that film. It literally ruins everything that was interesting in the OT and as a movie by itself, it's a farce. Every scene is either terrible dialogue or overlong CG action scene that wouldn't look out of place in a video game.

"Glup Shitto" sums them up, every scene is about some wacky CGI alien just being there. "Look at this wacky CGI alien thing lol, it's called Flurbo Poopo haha". The overarching story could be ok but the execution is so bad I can't get immersed in it.
