What did I think about it?
>>
>every character is lined up facing the camera
why?
>>
Why do people make these threads expecting others to read their minds?
>>
>>221174184
it’s called metaposting. very common on /tv/ and /v/ since brownoids and third worlders are unable to conjure up a real discussion
>>
>>221174184
It's like people have ESPN or something.

Wes Anderson is a talentless hack

I actually liked it. The framing device actually being a part of the narrative and a substantial chunk of the movie was pretty cool.
>>
>>221174166
My boomer dad called this the “Choo Choo Freight Train” movie
>>
>>221174166
Even more ridiculously self-indungent than his other movies.
Wasted Scarjo nudity.
Bizarre meta segments about Schwartzman being casting couched.
Story was dumb.
Characters weren't interesting or likeable.
I don't remember it being humorous.
Setting was extremely limited making the overall movie visually bland.

You can't wake up if you don't go to sleep, anon.
>>
Wes Anderslop
>>
>>221174166
You probably thought it was a bit trite and silly. Had a great set, art design and setting, but the plot just wasn’t there.
>>
>>221174166
If you're anything like me you probably thought "Boy, his style sure is getting old, I wonder if he'll ever make a fourth movie or if he's content to die as cinema's answer to Thomas Kincaid"
>>
>>221174166
You really liked the main story. You thought the behind the scenes parts were boring and kind of pretentious. You think Wes Anderson's movies are charming and you want to watch more.
>>
>>221174166
Wes Anderson is eating his own tail at this point. It's masturbatory filmmaking
>>
This was where I finally gave up on Wes Anderson.
Five minutes in and finally had enough with his self-fart-sniffing movies.
>>
OP here

I actually liked the movie and the way the director takes his shots. From Wide Angle to close ups. To Black and White and full color really breathes life into the film. I enjoyed the closenit friendship the honoress created and the son of Augie going from someone outside the circle to leading it and getting over the death of his mother by finding romance with the actress daughter. I like the usage of imagery and symbolism, for instance the grandfather and Augie but heads but they come together and fix their relationship with the backdrop being the garage.
>>
>>221174166
It was okay. The Phoenician Scheme was better.
>>
I gave up on Wes with GBH. First time I thought the criticism he constantly received of style of substance was true. But king of /tv/ Armond White praised Asteroid City so I'll probably check it out one day.
>>

You walked out when the roadrunner started dancing
>>
>>221175369
I hadn't even seen the roadrunner dancing honestly. The class I am currently attending finished right as the roadrunner was shown.

Truth be told I'm actually starting to appreciate cinema now that I'm starting to get an understanding of what to look for in the mise en scene

the same thing you thought about every other wes anderson movie
>>
>>221175505
If that's the scene the other anon was talking about it then yes I actually saw it. I don't know why but seeing Augie's son get the W while everyone chaotic around them was heartwarming. Hell, seeing the scientist and Augies have an intimate conversation about their life was feel good-esqe

Every time I see a Wes Anderson cast list I go
>Wow I have zero interest in watching this shit
>>
>>221175545
>>221174769
What movies do you recommend? I'm not trying to be an ass but more so want to dip my toes into different genres
>>
>>221174166
You liked the vibrant color, which is unusual in films these days.

I did like the color scheme and the way the alien was portrayed

Putting frontal female nudity in pg-13 is pretty based
>>

It's not vibrant, it's dull pastels.

You miss when Wes Anderson was actually funny.

>Doesn't get her name on the poster
>>
I hate Wes Anderson
>>
>>221174182
Because the director is a hack
>>
>>221174286
his greatest sin is making characters feel like cardboard cutouts with speakers attached to them. none of them feel like real people anymore and it makes me gives zero shits about the plots
>>
It was the just boring pretentious place of shit you've ever seen.

You didnt care that much about it, the plot was too contrived and the characters werent all that charismatic. On the other hand, his lately movie was definitely an upgrade.
>>
>>221174166
One of Wes' worst films plotwise. Great production and cinematography otherwise.
>>
>>221180038
The French Dispatch is top 5.
>>
>>221180038
I've only seen 1 and 3, they were quite good. Are the rest similar in style?
>>
>>221174286
>nudity
it was almost certainly a body double, no way Wes had the budget to make her get her tits out
>>
>>221178364
She's probably in less than 5 minutes of the movie and has less than 10 lines

It's the /tv/ meta
If you just try to make a thread and just say
>discuss this movie
Then you get no replies. 4channers are extremely easy to manipulate so this kind of thread is one such example of thread meta.

But the framing device is also part of the play
The actual framing device is the TV show the play is being performed on
>>
When I went to see it, during the scene near the end where Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody are talking to each other, the old lady sitting next to me leaned over to her husband and said "wait, those aren't the same person?"
That's the level most people who didn't like this are working at.
>>
>>221178364
She has a huge crush on bill murray she might have even done the movie free just to meet him but he wasn’t in it this time.

PS is astounding. It's his second best movie.
>>
>>221182840
you do understand the irony right?
>>
>>221174166
It's gone straight downhill since Grand Budapest Hotel. Isle of Dogs was good, French Dispatch was okay and this was mid. Didn't even bother with the newest one. Was it any better?
>>
>>221174166
I liked the set design and costumes
