The Hobbit movies destroyed LOTR as a viable cinematic universe. Padding that shit out to three movies was a disaster. The Rings of Power finished off any fans that had survived. Greed ruined everything. Now there's this "Hunt for Gollum" crap and whatever Colbert shits out and no one cares anymore.

Both "The Hunt for Gollum" and Colbert's project are just adaptations of parts of the story that were skipped in the trilogy (the search for Gollum and the barrows/Tom Bombadil respectively).

Both will be harmless filler.
