matt was better because he acted less with his teeth. he sure was an arm-waver though. i wish we’d got more years out of him though, to see him mature in the role instead of the speedrun we got would have been nice, but sadly that’s how it was being run. still my fave NuWho.

Russell t Davies I say this to you because you obviously don't know.
Dr Who was more than a show, many of us got bullied for loving it you know. Many of us who didn't fit in..no we were not gay..we were not in wrong bodies, but we were shy, lonely, abused ..on the outside of everything..sad.
but we were included there...accepted
Every age, race, class, creed, outlook..every human being was loved by Dr Who that was the point.
It wasn't a little sexuality and gender club with racism sprinkled over it.

you took something precious as the true meaning of 'inclusive' something rare..truly rare and you made it ugly and broken and false.. you excluded those of us who came to it for shelter as kids

that's unforgivable

This world is better than sex and gender and race..this is humanities world
put the flags down...look at that lonely old person..that awkward young person and bring them a hero

you took him from us all

War Doctor is where it's at. He gets up to some serious shit in his Big Finish adventures. Not everyone is a winner, but when he decides to cut lose he goes for broke. No problem picking up a stazer and letting lose. Happy to carry sonic grenades in his pockets. He straight up merc's the Dalek Time Strategist, unmakes races from existence, and kills dead warlocks employed by the timelords. He' not just wrecking Daleks, he's actively sabatoging the timelords when they get too fucking uppity. Dude was an absolute menace. But again, this is all Big Finish and other literature.

The Greenis Daleks are where it's at. They get up to some serious shit in their Big Finish adventures. Not every one is a winner, but when they decide to cut loose they go for broke. No problem hauling up those huge green cannons and letting loose. Happy to carry spare power cells in their casings. They straight up merc the Troomers, unmake races from existence, and exterminate dead warlocks employed by the Time Lords. They're not just wrecking rival factions, they're actively sabotaging the Time Lords when they get too fucking uppity. These tin pepperpots were absolute menaces. Bringing back a one off actor in a story to play the Doctor is fine.
Bringing back an actor to play a second doctor is cringe.
Bringing back a companion actor to play the doctor is super cringe. Especially when Billie's far from a good choice of which companion actor to upgrade into doctor.

>DOCTOR: So many species, so little time.
>ROSE: What, that's what we do when we get out there? That's our mission? We seek new life, and... and
>DOCTOR: Dance.

tbfair it's interesting the once, even if it was furry degeneracy with no pregnancy, people WOULD fug the aliens.

but then they/RTD just kept going. most people are driven to fuck out of love/procreation, this would be like paedophilia where there's no biological reason for it, just someone wrong in the head.

ugh. I hope not. The idea that the Doctor was cavorting around having adventures before Hartnell is so dumb.
If they've got to do something, I kind of like the idea of a parallel time line where the war didn't happen. Essentially resetting all the way back to the classic series (or the McGann audios).
I'm kind of sick of the Time War as a thing. I'm sick of grief being some cornerstone of the Doctor's personality, as opposed to just bumming around and not giving a fuck.

After The Timeless Child and the Flux I didn't think anyone could make the show more retarded, but that whole reveal was weapons-grade stupidity. Not only shoehorning the name gymnastics into the plot, but having a fucking dog-god sitting on the Tardis for 50 years and the Doctor didn't notice? Fuck off. I'm glad the show's dead.
>>
>>221194152
You take that back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNLQ9S7eXyE
>>
>>221194441
The most retarded part is that RTD rebooted the show to be a clean break from 60 years of overloaded canon to appeal to new fans then immediately did a Classic Who villain reveal because that's the only writing trick he has.
>>
The higher they make the stakes the lower they are.
>flux destroys half the universe
>sutekh makes the planet into a sandpit
who fucking cares, it's obvious it's going to get deus ex machinaed.
Give BELIEVABLE problems with BELIEVABLE ramifications.
Episodes like blink are consistently rated the highest and the biggest danger in that was a single person being born 80 years previously.
>>
>>221195277
writers will never understand this
One death is a tragedy, a thousand dead is a statistic, a trillion dead is an empty threat
>>
>>221195277
Remember when the Doctor had to deal with The Rani set in a 19th Century mining town or when he accidentally started the Fire of London? Each story had stakes bigger than the immediate setting but it felt a lot more grounded. Nu-Who needs to destroy the universe at the end of every season.

Did anyone else immediately drop the show after the Eleventh Doctor showed up?
I started with nu-Who and the tone of the show immediately felt off when Matt Smith's Doctor showed up. The show just felt really boring and I felt like the Eleventh Doctor couldn't fill the shoes that the Tenth Doctor left behind. He wasn't nearly as charismatic or compelling. And the plot lines for him were just lame imo. Amy was hot tho.

The opposite. I think 11 essentially presented a better and more solidly realised version of 10, and that series 5 had a much needed injection of energy, after the RTD formula had started to show it's limitations.

Series 5 is literally fine. It has a bunch of good self contained stories, a new set of companions who are fun, and decent overarching plot.

The limitations of RTD's style really does show itself when you've been on that ride a few times already.
>the Doctor shows up, goes "oh yes..." and "brilliant"
>meets some girl called Karen Plum or something, showers her with praise for not doing much of anything. "You're brilliant you are, Karen Plum. You make my adventures *mean* something!"
>Karen Plum has a family who are like "you watch yourself with that Doctor. He's a wrongun!", before they inevitably all get won over.
>series arc where a villain from the classic series reappears and they're all shiny and chrome and covered in LEDs, and they're the biggest baddest most universe ending threat ever
>The Murray Gold music is going off the chain, and the Doctor is running down corridors, and everything is incredibly emotional, and then you hit the deus ex machina and the whole thing deflates rather unsatisfyingly
That's all he does.

I fully suspect the BBC just gave him the job because he's a Yes-man, and he was eagerly supportive of the idea of a female Doctor, while Mark Gatiss is difficult and would have wanted to do it his way, which is to say he would have attempted to remake Jon Pertwee.

I mean, the idea of a female Doctor is one of those things that's been floating around since the 80's, and people were ready to see it attempted (even if I think it ultimately amounts to a gimmick that completely throws off the whole dynamic of the show).
What people weren't really anticipating is for it to be just as weak and shit as it was.
If they'd done it in the 80's or the 90's it probably actually would have been fine. They would have found someone cool, and there would have been an energy and a sexuality about it.

The state of gender politics is that we have to be constantly aware of gender, and we're not allowed to have fun with any of it. No cracks about bras. No gay jokes.
I don't have to explain this. You all live in this world as well. Television is a Marxist struggle session. It's not supposed to be fun.

for me, it was that leaked/erroneous scene of Smith regenerating into Capaldi, where they hadn't added in the Murray Gold music yet.

it was taken down and i swear it's been memoryholed. some people have recreated it (later) along with a bunch of other scenes, gives you the same idea.

i can't stress enough how much i hate the Murray Gold music, /who/. the acting does it all, the music should be INCIDENTAL like in Classic.

I'd imagine this would be a big problem for new Doctors. You'd think they'd be pissing and shitting themselves for a few minutes after regeneration until they get used to their new muscle structure.
>>
>>221202656
When did 1 have a wife? and 4 didn't shag Romana on screen so it didn't happen.
>>
>>221202413
JNT literally had women running around with their cleavages out, because he recognised it was a good audience pleaser, and he was making a piece of entertainment.
Even the 60's stuff, as vanilla as it is (it was the 60's), it's not completely without sex or romance. The Doctor is of course implied to have had sex, because he has a granddaughter. There's a certain something between Ian and Barbara. Susan goes off with a man. They were constantly putting Zoe's arse on screen.

I have to say it: this idea that the Doctor is asexual, and DW is an asexual show, is some kind of phantasm that took root in the mind of the fandom. It's not a real thing.
I think secretly a lot of them perpetuated the idea because they were awkward virgins, and they didn't want their heroes on the TV having any more sex than they were having.

He had a family on his home planet. All of these questions revolving around Susan's origins came later on because people didn't want the Doctor to have fucked so she had to have been loomed or was the secret grandchild of the Other who the Doctor reincarnated from. There's also the Aztecs woman but that doesn't really count.

There was also some degree of late 90's seethe about Paul McGann's Doctor being a more conventional action hero and kissing a woman on screen.
Deserved, maybe. it was an example of how they had attempted to Americanise the franchise, and turn this very British "weird uncle with secrets" kind of character, into something they understood, which was Captain Kirk, or MacGyver or something (insert your own American TV references).
On the other hand, the Doctor is allowed to cycle through personas. it's kind of the idea.
>>
>>221202912
>Doctor is allowed to cycle through personas. it's kind of the idea.
this, but within limits of the ludicrous
>>
The Doctor is an intergalactic nonce. Not only does he show disdain for his own species because they're his intellectual equals (Romana I) but he grooms humans from literal children to be his "companions", he has done this with both Ace and Rose, but more than this every Timelord-human relationship is inherently a tale of power abuse due to humans being intellectually incapable of consenting.

Yeah, walking into the room and blowing her brains out each time. In all honesty, my head canon is that she was a higher rank of Time Lord, and as such, had the ability to "try on" regenerations before settling on one.

This scene always bugged me. So The Doctor can just heal people at will? Why has he never done this before? What does River mean by a "waste of regeneration energy"? >>
>>221203250
>Why has he never done this before?
It tends to fuck things up for the timelord down the road if you use it willy nilly.
> Will the Doctor regenerate missing a hand?
Only in that initial period after regeneration.
>Also, I thought 11 was supposed to be The Doctor's final incarnation.
The answer to that is that 11 wasn't originally meant to be the final regeneration as the War Doctor wasn't planned. But you can just handwave it by saying that the Doctor has some energy left, just not enough to regenerate.
>>
>>221203250
It's crazy how often sci-fi writers make this mistake.
The writers of Stargate had a system where if you establish a rule it has to work that way every time. So if you establish that the laser staff thing can blast through walls, then you have to take that into account every time a character is trapped in a room (and better yet, just not do it).
How is this not just common wisdom regarding big SF and fantasy franchises?
>>
>>221203359
>It tends to fuck things up for the timelord down the road if you use it willy nilly
>Uses it to heal a broken wrist
>>
>>221203003
I just assumed she was in a state of flux and it was only one regeneration. She regenerated purposefully and was coherent during the process which makes me now wonder if all the crazyness in post regeneration just comes from traumatic death?

Not that Doctor Who sticks so strictly to its own canon.
>>
>>221203376
River is the love of the Doctor's life so that's probably why he did it, she's probably why Capaldi is an old oogleh man.
>>
Also another reason the timeless child is shit, if the Doctor has infinite regeneration energy AND can heal everyone with that regeneration energy why doesn't he just blast himself throughout the entire universe and heal everything everywhere simultaneously?

This is the problem when you make the Doctor a God.
>>
>>221203443
It would have just made more sense if the Timeless Child was the Master, gone crazy after being abused and used the Time Lords.
>>
>>221203502
it would have made more sense if they never did it at all. it has to be the stupidest fucking idea in the history of this show
