I FUCKING KNEW IT
Ruth's actress is phenomenal this episode, damn
Fucking KINO episode. They made it very LOST but better.
>>221191050CALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLED IT
predictable, but it was still really good. 8 bells for 8 sacrifices next seasonRuth ha GOAT too
>>221191560Patricia's bully better get sacrificed
How is this thread so dead, thought more people were watching this show
>>221191647Most are avoiding it out of spoilers probably. I'm not reading most comments yet.
just finished it. episode was phenomenal. excellent way to end the show.
>>221190987let the normies pay the subscription fees
>>221191560did 9 people die this time? it rang nine times and for deaths we get:shamanjannyboogeyman victim EMTboogeyman victim gas stationidk moreI think it’s 9 need to be fed in the hatch and the ending rings went down by one to 8 cause janny got chomped
>>221191731i just rewatched the beginning of episode 2. it rang 9 times. end of this episode, 8 times. i assume that means only the janitor counts. 8 more seasons to go lol
>>221191027just got done watching with my friend, pretty underwhelming season finale, cant lie, they definitely blew their load on ep 8, this episode felt like they left way too much open ended and I can only assume its because they werent sure the show was gonna be a hit or not. Last 2 episodes definitely scream "no dont cancel us we still got a lot of cool ideas and other stuff we can do!" Regardless, still a great show, the last 2 episodes are just underwhelming.
>>221191749yeah, the people have to be sacrificed to the creature, if they die on the island otherwise it doesn't count
man am i glad i'm able to enjoy good things for what they are instead of get all irony poisoned about it
>>221191731>>221191749Demon summons shit to terrorize the town until it gets directly fed/sacrificed the number of people it wants, then like the video said, it goes to sleep for a while. So it's basically still awake but placated until the next season, when more ghosts/whatever get summoned again as it waits for the rest of the sacrifices. So people killed by the fog, pussy smothering ghost, or the people who Patricia would've killed from the self-help book, wouldn't count.
>>221191878i thought it was a great bittersweet ending. i don't understand why people are so adhd about plots. the finale was a beautiful piece of a guy faced with a moral quandary. we understand everything now. the stakes are raised. the darkness marches on. i don't care what they were thinking when they wrote the ending, i still think it's a fitting ending for the show. now we'll get a second season that panders to adhd fans and patty coomers and hopefully it won't be so bad it retroactively ruins this nice little season of television.
>>221191988i interpreted that last church bell scene as a new start to the shenanigans. so it will immediately cycle and the island will continue being left in a state of weirdness. i don't think the janny fix will last too long.
>>221188535New ephttps://gofile.io/d/1gcKKV
>>221192051Realistically the next season probably won't be set further than a few months, if even a few weeks, from the end of this season. Tom has to shut down Evan's goals of leaving the island before he applies to colleges, and the show is currently in July, probably before he starts senior year. I imagine the show keeps it within a couple weeks so they can still leverage the potential influx of tourists before word gets out at how the town is messed up from the storm and isn't a suitable vacation spot anymore.
>>221192190I'm glad they left Ruth's survival on the table. I kept thinking she was gonna drop the bomb and then die and Tom would be left shouldering that burden, but setting up Beshir as a possible Doakes scenario could be a good plot thread.
Ruth got shot but survived, and she didn't seem that injured either. Did the sacrifice heal her to an extent, or was it just luck? Also, the actress is Martha Kent from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
How did the priest know about the sacrifices/bell? Or rather, who wrote down the instructions in the first place? I doubt Richard Warren warned the church of the pact he made. So did they figure it out themselves somehow?
>>221192478I assume that's what he read in the church records. There was a film in the shelter all about the sacrifices. It seems obvious that the leaders of the town knew the whole deal and that the island "slept" long enough for everyone to forget it.
>>221192512>I assume that's what he read in the church records.Yeah but who wrote the records, is my point. Richard Warren seemingly took that shit to his grave. I guess not though.
>>221192512>>221192478Presumably he suicided because he couldn't live with the burden of having to make the choice. The films being stored in the basement indicate that there should have been at least somebody involved in town governance who knew about it, but just failed to pass it on, or whomever they passed it on to just didn't make it known. Maybe Rosemary's predecessor knew more than what she'd told Rosemary, and she died before letting her know the full details. I'd imagine they'll go into it more next season, wouldn't be surprised if they have another period-piece episode next season.
>>221192553You've got a point, but I think the town figured things out over the next couple hundred years.
this made me kek so hard
Well that was unfulfilling. Practically From tier.
>>221192694Several mysteries were actually revealed though
how long were people in the shelter before they started freaking out? like two hours? lol
>>221192254When Tom is holding her, we don't see any splatter on the back of her head. When she rolls over, we only see blood on her hair and on her hand where she was clutching her head. Probably just grazed her ear or maybe blew it off. Her falling over can be from the meds and Tom supporting her, so she wasn't properly standing when Tom was holding her up. I'd imagine if the demon was trying to preserve the bloodline, it would've intervened more when Richard Warren was fighting to survive since he's immortal.>>221192553Probably get flashbacks to how the town learned about it in the next season. Presumably it'd just be like Richard Warren though; somebody takes the island's mushrooms, it allows them to talk to the demon (which Tom mentioned being able to feel, but rejecting it), and then they learn what it wants and they pass it down.
Imagine the moral conundrum of having to decide to kill your wife's son.>but it will save everyone elseIt will do what now..?
pretty gud finale
what's going to come of the sheriff now?
>>221193018He'll still want to get his baby off the island. At some point he has to be informed enough to know the island is still hungry. They'll have to get the target off Ruth's back without putting it on Tom's wife's son.
>>221191988so the demon cast a spell to get free gibs whenever he wakes up and hungry?
>>221193018Tom probably gives him a pass since he also tried killing Ruth. Sheriff probably joins the trio in working a way to deal with the monsters of the week and the demon. Probably snaps at some point when his wife/kid are nearly killed and threatens Ruth to get her to tell who the other descendant is.
What kind of shit ending was that?
>>221192229>>221192254The monster eating the janitor satiated it, which immediately stopped the storm and prevented Ruth from dying
>>221193018I'm sure as a black murderer he will face justice and spend his life in prison.
The ending (as in the last part of episode 10) felt rushed.I really hated Bechir shooting Ruth, even though realistically Tom already attempted the murder. The shooting felt like something that would be done by a lesser show, and it makes me hate Bechir's character now. Also I think Ruth is dead, or Tom wouldn't have thrown the brooch into the sea, another scene I hated. Janny getting eaten and not PJ also annoyed me. Aside from those three scenes it was a good episode, the tense scenes between Tom and Ruth were all great and some of the shelter scenes were cozy too. But it was ruined a bit for me by the aforementioned scenes. They leave it open as to whether Bechir will appear in s2. If the actor wants to return they'll probably write it as if his baby was born so he can't leave. If the actor wants to leave they'll say he left on the first boat with Chelle who had yet to give birth.
more like widow's peak lmao at that hairline
peaked with the time period episode
>>221193208I definitely think he'll be back, and there will be tension between him and Tom, since he knows there is another descendant, just not who.
So the entity in the bunker is an actual creature right? Not a ghost or demon spirit?
>>221193121It appeased it for now, but it still wants 8 more sacrifices. I guess it will stay calm for a little bit before sending gnomes to rape everyone or something
Anyone else excited to wait 2 years for S2?
>>221193375just like severance, i consider this as the endpoint of the series
Why were so many people saying this show was a mini-series and would end in 10 episodes? I'll admit I took it at face value but it was pretty ubiquitous. Pretty massive cliffhanger, I don't mind though because I like this show and want more of it.Pretty sure PJ is not who he appears to be and probably Evan's gf too, although the way PJ was acting with her in the chair made me think he was going to sacrifice her first. He may not even be that bad a dude and just felt he had to do something, or maybe he's evil. Or maybe neither, it was still fairly ambiguous. He seemed to me like he saw an out and took it quickly because he didn't WANT to sacrifice the gf.It also seemed to me that Evan knew all the history at the end because he was clearly afraid of the bell, wonder if the next season will be them trying to figure out who to sacrifice of the tourists to comedic effect or something, lol. I would say its fair to say that the island can supernaturally draw people in, so the disaster this season could probably be ignored. Good setup but I did expect something a little less cliff-hangery, Evan being the heir was pretty telegraphed but it's also pretty central to everything Tom has been doing so if it's going to have more seasons it pretty much has to be that way, not gonna complain about it. It would have been nice to see how Evan responded to PJ and how Tom responded to Bechir, though. I'd guess they'll show it next season but still had a small time skip for whatever reason to finish the ep.
The priest killed himself because he was supposed to be the one to setup the nine sacrifices for It.
>>221192123>https://gofile.io/d/1gcKKV>not 4Kshame
>>221193314now that they know what they know about tom’s wife’s son, they will probably mention next season that there’s no way to know how many other out of wedlock births and bastard kids happened over the centuries, so basically anyone with any family on the island could be a descendent of the og mayor, and killing ruth and evan wouldn’t necessarily even do any good, and I think that will stop even the sheriff from trying to kill them.I predict season two will be about an fbi agent who comes to investigate all the weird stuff/deaths/missing people etc on the island.
It'll be interesting to see how season 2 develops. They can't exactly go back to a normal tourist destination after this. Which might be a problem because previously the light-hearted aspects were a good juxtaposition to the horror elements. And the idea that tourists were flocking in gave the town a fun 'happening' atmosphere. But now they know of the dark secret of the town how can there be any levity at all? They'd be driving people away and everything would be miserable. Unless they do something drastic with the plot in s2 and make it so somehow Widow's Bay actually becomes a popular destination spot, which would be weird after the storm episode, or they get a ton of people from the mainland to help them rebuild their town for some reason.>>221193314They made him really unlikeable in episode 8 and 10. His character would need remediation or some redemption arc.>>221191077>>221191087>>221191132The shelter/tunnels setting is so good, though I feel like it could have been used better.
I can't believe his son is actually part of the bloodline, really thought they wouldn't go for the obvious. it doesn't work any better just because they did a fakeout
What if you put pic related in the sacrifice room?
>>221192596>there should have been at least somebody involved in town governance who knew about it, but just failed to pass it onremember, Loftis ran uncontested
>>221193531I think they can still be a tourist destination despite the storm, especially now that there presumably won’t be another one for a while.
>>221193531I don't see why anything would change, they had a brief storm that's over and it's back to being nice again. Some drug dealer and janny are the only deaths and it's not like either left behind bodies
>>221192694>Well that was unfulfilling. Practically From tier./from/ poster spotted. nice try. our finale was better than all your finales combined.
>>221193551It works if S2 revolves around the Trolley Problem dilemma where Tom tries to keep his son safe from everyone else but at the cost of holding up pact with the entity where they have to find and sacrifice eight other people to it. Although I think Ruth surviving took away from this a bit.
Widow's Bay season 1 finale explained
>>221193531I don't think it's farfetched to think the town/entity has some sort of psychic draw, it was a bit bizarre it was declared "the next Martha's Vineyard" to begin with given the circumstances of the episode. My prediction would be that the people who visited will leave and bizarrely think it was all very fun and unique, and there will be even more people who want to visit. Could go another way entirely though, I did feel shades of much darker things this episode.
>>221193345>So the entity in the bunker is an actual creature right? Not a ghost or demon spirit?I hope it's NOT a creature.
>>221193602I disagree. there’s no telling how many other bastard kids there could be, since there aren’t written records of them, so now there’s no way to know how many descendants are around or who they might be. I don’t think killing ruth and evan will be considered to even be worth it by anyone in season two, even the sheriff. I think it will be about something else, like a reporter or fbi agent investigating the island or something, and probably end with that person getting eaten in the basement.
>>221193602the whole point I got from the episode is that Ruth is a genuinely good person and doesn't deserve to die even though she's old, and even if they had killed her it wouldn't have mattered because she wasn't offered as a sacrifice. I think season 2 will (in a darkly comedic way) be about the core group finding the "right" person to sacrifice
>>221193620You're hoping it turns out to be a guy in a costume?
>>221193570>>221193572I'm just thinking that the main characters at town hall would be actively trying to dissuade more people from visiting, knowing that it's a death trap. It could be a point of comedy if something skyrockets the town on popularity and they're trying hard to shoo these people away, but that feels like something that should have been set up in the finale. Also s2 might be the last season. They might not even bother looking for the next 8 sacrifices but try to find a way to banish the entity for good. I hope there's a twist involving Lauren being still alive. I think Ruth mentioned the place she was staying, Old Home or something.
Do you guys think Howard the Coward got his name because he refused to go through with the sacrifices?
>>221193662>You're hoping it turns out to be a guy in a costume? No. I want it to be a demon.
>>221193681yeah
>>221193614Yea I suppose you're right. That would be a good idea regardless.
>>221193687i want the island to itself be a lovecraftian monster of gargantuan size, just chillin in the ocean, and that bunker door leads to its stoma. it wants souls so it makes itself habitable as long as someone cuts a deal with it and provides tasty people.
>>221193687It sounded like an alien, slithery and echoey. Sort of like the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.
>>221193667the creature/entity/island/whatever doesn't appear to desire tourists and lets them arrive and leave as they please, it seems to only hunger for residents
>>221193667I agree about the tourists, and they did set that up this episode when tom expressed his guilt about bringing people to the island even though he knew it was a cursed place. it would be funny to see them trying to keep people away next season, but the townsfolk are all against them because they’re making so much money off them kek.
>>221193728>i want the island to itself be a lovecraftian monster of gargantuan size, just chillin in the ocean, and that bunker door leads to its stomathat would also be fine with me. i just dont want another man sized creature.
think of this. what was the island like before the first protector cut a deal? shitty. he did so to save everyone. i assume that means even if toms wifes son and ruth get tossed overboard, widows bay wont be saved. it will turn back into a shithole. but maybe then people can leave, so who knows.
>>221193768me neither. in fact, id rather not even see it. the writers of this show seem to fully understand that the audience imagination is always better than whatever they pull out of their ass.
>>221193728It's actually possible, considering the mushrooms that allowed it contact with people grew on the island itself. And Wyck mentioned being attacked by a giant tentacle when he tried to leave the island with his friend during one of the storms.
From tier ending
Season 2 will be pozzed, that's for sure
>>221193788it also makes logical sense to play with this idea if the showrunners want to escalate, as season 2s always do.
>>221193699It would be a weird/funny gearshift if season 2 was some sort of perverse buddy cop father/son thing on choosing which tourists to kill, maybe Patricia becomes the main hero and Tom the villain. Who knows, I was expecting slightly more closure to be honest
>>221193820Reminds me of that Harry Houdini fanfic that Lovecraft wrote about Harry traveling underneath a hole in the Great Sphinx and he witnesses a ritual a monster at the end but then he realizes the monster was just the paw of a larger being, and the closest glimpse he has to seeing its true full form is the Sphinx statue itself.
No one in the town ever thought of going down to the cellar and shooting the entity? Or contacting the US government to deal with it?
On a scale from 1 to 10, how would you guys rate season one?
>>221192975
>>221193965very good/10
>>221193965I plan to watch season 2
Why the fuck are people using spoilers tags in the discussion thread for the episode, what website did I just stumble on thinking it was 4chin?
>>221194014it's respectful but unnecessary given the mutt kid was foreshadowed as a descendant by like ep 3
>>221194022>respectful Why would people who haven't watched the episode be browsing the discussion thread for the episode and not expect spoilers?
>>221194022>n the mutt kid He's very clearly jewish, just like the star of the show
>>221194065ashkenazi vs sephardic
>>221194046presumably because you could still go on /tv/ and see the general's spoilers from the thread and its post bumping to the top of the catalog, showing the end spoilers and hurting the chances of people using the finale as an on-ramp to binge the series if they already know le twists (which one would presumably want to avoid if you enjoyed the show and wish for more discussion)it's just good posting hygiene and considerate, but sticks out as performative or a shill thing because nobody uses spoilers authentically much anymore outside of playfully hiding gay or embarrassing thoughts
>>221194014>>221194129No, you use spoiler tags when discussing plot points because if you don't, the bad man will come to your house and
>>221194129I love using spoilers ever since I learned ctrl+s makes them automatically and I don't have to literally type out "spoiler"
Would you anons kill Ruth to save the town?

so is ruth dead or not
Mysteries were revealed, this season was crazy.
>>221194211hmmm. maybe>>221194246depends on the writers. If the actress dies or has health troubles, the character dies
>>221194230>sorry*ugh
>>221194260>depends on the writers. If the actress dies or has health troubles, the character dieslmao god I hate mystery box shows so much
I LOVE RUTH!!!!!!!!!! SHE BETTER FUCKING BE OKAY!!!!
>>221194266This isn't really a mysterybox though. We already know all the mysteries.
>>221194246I doubt tom would throw the thing in the ocean if she was alive, but I suppose they could have her come back if they really want.
>>221194303i read the broach thing as tom literally and symbolically lashing out in anger about the lineage and trying to bury the secret. ruth will return.
>>221194325>ruth will return>in avengers: doomsday
>>221192032>the stakes are raisedexcept the episode didnt feel that way, the season finale is usually one of the episodes that should feel strongest, and despite answering a lot, it doesnt do it in a way that feels like a proper climax to the series, if anything, Patty's faceoff with the killer was a better climax for the season, maybe if that was happening at the same time Tom was with Ruth it would have been a proper ending to the season. I feel like the ending is underwhelming and despite it still being a good episode (same with ep9) I just feel like they break up the story a little too hard and makes me wish there was better pacing, its not adhd, its just expecting the payoff being properly conveyed and I feel like Ep10 feels already winded down.
>>221193964It’s a fucking god, why do you think some government can stop it?
>>221194385The sheriff shooting Ruth and threatening Tom to give up the name of the last descendant definitely felt like the stakes being upped, felt like a moment from Barry where they drop the jokes and go hard on the drama.
>>221194390They've killed gods before.
>>221194405exactly. the whole ep is tom wrestling with murdering an old woman, then discovering its his secret mother in law. the core of this show is a fantastic character drama and i was just fine with the writers focusing on that rather than some kind of scooby doo shit.

Biggest lore reveal in these last two episodes are the surprisingly high amount of lesbians in Widow's Bay.
>>221194457>>221194536did you know what the "pull out method" was? wasn't sure if that's worldwide either.once she started going on about how everyone wanted to fuck her i knew we would get the kid being the final descendant
>>221194587I'm okay with lesbianism, it can be hot
>>221194601>did you know what the "pull out method" was? wasn't sure if that's worldwide either.I'm a pervert and not a virgin, so yes Spoiler alert I got my now ex wife pregnant by doing that and, just like Ruth said, it does not work
>>221194587>>221194602what are you talking about?>>221194601yes i think everyone watching for the most part understood that > knew we would get the kid being the final descendantthe thing that surprised me the most is we didn't get the big reveal that the black cop is actually the father. >>221193222He doesn't have a widows peak though...
Would you stick your dick into the gap?
>>221194868evan needs to stop listening to his shitty fucking friendswhat kind of moron would go in that room?
that thirdie who doesnt know what make a pass meant reminded me that season 2 should have an outsider stick around and become a main character. foreigners can be a good source of humor.
What the fuck is PJ’s problem?
>>221194714No. Widow's Bay has an actual concept and good writing, with functional and well thought out lore down to minute detail, and while lacking in skill it is done with craft. From is just Lost horror dlc and written on whimfarts with a cast of fucking retards and dialogue like "...Hmmghh I'll be back later"
>>221194915They should have character whose a local from Martha's Vinyard and is touring the island in S2.
>>221191027Bodied
So none of the deaths by jason or the tornado count towards the sacrifice? It has to be willingly offered and the people have to be afraid? That should make for a fun S2 where Tom has to organize his town into the one from Hot Fuzz.
good episode but does the sheriff step down or what? does he just get away with shooting an old lady?
>>221195018i think they count but like some anon said the numbers might not add up

>>221195025well if they try to get him in trouble he could also rat on tom for what he did. I do expect him to be like an alcoholic or something next season if his kid was born on the island and they can’t break the curse now. it’s also possible they just have him leave. maybe they want a different antagonist for tom next season or something.

It’s interesting when you think about how on a wider level, a lot of the overall plots are directed by whatever entity controls and feeds off widow’s bay.So on that level. It’s why Tom never dies despite his endless close calls. The island kind of needs Tom. He ran unopposed because nobody else would deal with the job, the mayoralty is a direct successor to the Lord Protector of the island title. So Tom encouraging tourism works well for the entity Since it brings lots of fresh meat. Whereas previously it couldn’t eat/sacrifice too many natives or the place would be depopulated pretty quick I imagine next season tourism will remain high despite the bunker shenanigans in the finale.EitherA) people now praise it for a “realistic and rustic seaside experience” or some shitOrB) it gets a lot more tourism from the Horror lovers who get a kick visiting haunted inns and visiting the museum of crazy shitWouldn’t mind seeing an episode next season that’s done found footage style like it’s a horror YouTuber visiting the place intending to pretend stuff happens, only for it to actually happen and nobody who lives there is actually shocked

Great first season. It had first three seasons of LOST vibes at times. Will probably shit the bed in the second season like Severance. I'm hopeful though. This is legitimately the first new TV show I have enjoyed in years.

The mayor and the sherif are pieces of shit. One considered killing the granny and the other actually did it.They built these characters nicely but completely ruined them in the end.
Did you know too that she is the grandmother?
It seems the entity only takes a sacrifice from the room when the door is closed. It didn't take the three kids when the door was open.Really enjoyed Ruth's unexpected character development. Up until now you thought she was just a doddering old maid but in a single episode the show made you fall in love with the character. Hope she sticks around in season 2, even though Tom threw the brooch into the sea.I strongly suspect the ending was drastically recut just after Apple renewed it for season 2. I think maybe originally Ruth's character what more definitely dead, and Bechir more definitely to have left the island with Chelle, but now both things are left open.Second season will be tough for the writers. Where do you even go from here.
>>221197435*was more
>>221197435>Where do you even go from here.Wyck, Tom and black cop going all in on turning the island into a tourist trap so they can feed the demon justifying that it's for the greater good and to protect everyone else.
>>221197435>Where do you even go from here.well at the end of the episode the bells rang again, so that means the horror shenanigans are going to start back up until the demon gets fed again.
>>221197435> It seems the entity only takes a sacrifice from the room when the door is closedThe developers were just lazy or had no time to implement the thing.
>>221197533Six bell rings if I remember right.
>>221197525Wyck would never agree to that.He was only for killing Ruth thinking she was the way to break the curse. He wouldn't agree to sacrificing townspeople in perpetuity to appease the demon. At most he'd be for killing Evan. He doesn't know it and Tom won't tell him, but he might learn it along with the sheriff after investigating. But yea this is the sort of drama I hope the show doesn't descend to.>>221197533Yea but then it will just be retreading old ground with fewer characters and resources at its disposal. They need to inject the script with plot development that changes it up without feeling unnatural or unearned.
>>221197613Well it would make no sense otherwise I guess. You need people to strap sacrifices to the chairs.
>>221188745Hope not

>>221199247More S2 info>How far have you planned things out with this series, or at least thought about the story you’re telling? Do you have a good sense of Season 2 and Season 3?DIPPOLD: I have a good sense of Season 2, in the sense of how I want it to feel, the kinds of stuff we can do, and more of the lore to show. I’ve always had an idea for how I think Loftis’ story should end. Whether that’s what we end up doing or not, I’m not sure, but there’s something I’ve always had in mind.>Do you see it being more full-on horror moving forward?DIPPOLD: I think it’s always going to serve both.>Do you want to do more flashbacks?DIPPOLD: Yes. I think it’d be fun to do more flashbacks. What I think could be very fun about this show and that I always had in mind was, if you build this world and people like being in this world, then aside from this story, there could be future miniseries. What happened at the inn over that New Year’s night could be a standalone six-episode season. I think there is all sorts of stuff you can do, as long as this world is established. I think there’s a lot of fun to be had.>You’re also playing with things that are fated, like the bells in town ringing with the number of people that need to be sacrificed. Is that predetermined and fated? Can anything be changed? Is that something you also want to delve deeper into?DIPPOLD: Yes. These are the complications that would come up in Season 2.
