Is there any other animated show that is anywhere near as good as this??
After almost 10 years I've learned to appreciate the new york seasons. But the venture compound seasons will always be the best.

I just started watching, I'm at the part where they meet the dr Strange looking neighbor and I'm enjoying it so far. I just really hope it won't turn into the Brock Samson show which is the feeling I'm getting.
>>221195728Lol, most people would complain the show sidelines Brock too much. Believe me, you're going to get much, much, more than just Brock, maybe too much. This show is fucking stuffed with characters.
>>221195728Season 1 is when the show's still getting a feel for itself, so most episodes follow the "villain of the week shows up, Brock eventually goes apeshit on them" formula. >>221195728Season 3 and 4 are the Brock seasons. He's kinda sidelined in everything else
>>221189317Its a very niche show that cultivated an intended audience and was liked by the producer at Adult Swim who allowed the staff to take as much time as they needed between seasons. Ideally this is how all shows should operate, good ones at least. But it wasn't doing Family Guy or Rick and Morty numbers so it got cancelled. It might be for the best because it practically ended before the current culture war brainrot and AI bullshit we've had to endure.
Venture Bros. is kind of a perfect series. I followed it since it debuted when I was 14 until it ended (if you count Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart) when I was 34. Kind of fucking nuts.
>>221189317unironically capitalism kek the show is actually handdrawn by real artists with distinct styles (requires specialized skills) compare that to fuckin RIck and Morty where every character is essentially a rigged puppet with each body part being a modular part of one big animation rig, it's not NEARLY as expressive but it sure as shit is cost effective

>>221189739guiltyonly just started watching it this year. Remember seeing ads for it when it was airing and thinking "weird-looking scooby-doo parody thing", ultimately ignoring it. >>221198401>>221198990Proof? Jesus being a jew has been debunked. Jews can't prosecute their own kind.
The point was they are regular people and this superhero supervillain lifestyle is just a job for them. Rusty's a shitty person because he had a shitty childhood. It turns out that he was just a clone that his dad could let die and keep going on adventures with him. The boys are the same but they get to grow up and be normal kids by the end.

>>221198641That other anon is right, your wife has shit taste. To answer your question, you’ll probably want to catch the Dr. Orpheus intro episode, but otherwise if you just want to watch the setting unfurl start at Ghosts of the Sargasso. Every episode starting from there establishes either a major character, a meta plot point, or both. One caveat is that I’m pretty sure the funeral episode (Past Tense) ends up getting retconned in later seasons as they elaborate more on the old Team Venture and Rusty’s backstory. But it’s one of my favorite episodes in the whole series so I can’t tell people in good faith to skip it.Once you’re in season 2 the show really hits its stride. If she can’t get into it after Hate Floats, just give up. You’ll both know that the show isn’t for her at that point.
the Race Bannon episode was great
To get the best out of watching the show, it is a good idea to have a sense of humor and good taste.

>>221191404>It just wasn't a money maker, it was a pretty cult show on a pretty niche Network, took years and lots of money to make each season, and even though it was solid gold, it just didn't sell as well as Rick and MortyThat's because the creators never let go of it. Every single episode is written by Jackson Publick and/or Doc Hammer. Rick and Morty was by design meant to be monetized and Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland rarely wrote episodes.
>>221189664Based mtm enjoyer. Only s1&2 are on dvd and it bums me out.
Doc and Jackson set out to make the best, funniest show they could. They spent years writing, editing, and rewriting each season. You waited a long time but it was worth it to watch a new episode as it aired. You zoomers are lucky, you could literally download and binge the entire series. Too bad you can't find it on Netflix, that's the only software you know how to use.

>>221202397It was fun following it as it came out too though. The fandom is toppest of tiers, and it had all the possible ingredients to make it suck too so it's miraculous. And with a high level fandom you get a lot of good talk when it's actively being released or even between seasons. It has cooled down a bit now, but it never got to the stage where it sucked.
>>221201822First episode is not great though. Other than the "they hit me with a truck" and Speedy of course. And the stolen kidneys.
>>221202347Ben Edlund wrote some episodes too (since both Doc and Jackson worked for him on The Tick), most notably the episode where the scooby-doo gang parody breaks into the venture compound.
>>221189160I finished the show yesterday (still have the film left). I first watched it about 10 years ago, so I was a full two series behind. Some of the late episodes were very strong, but I missed the chaotic energy the early series had. They never really matched series 2 (on average, the peaks like Arrears in Science or Operation PROM get there).
>>221203605Just keeping things straight as a viewer was tiring, I imagine writing it was the most exhausting TV job ever. Season 2 was them discovering the amazing feats they could attempt with their silly little parody, the last seasons were them being trapped inside it.
>>221202993Is there still a fandom, anywhere? The last season came out 8 years ago, and I rarely see posts on /tv/
>>221203070I recommended to maybe watch episode 4 to get introduced to a major set of characters that will stay relevant for the rest of the show, then skip to episode 8 and keep watching. Now that I’m thinking about it, the garage sale episode should probably be watched too. The shrink ray comes up a few times throughout the series. So my recommendation is episodes 4, 6, 8-on (skipping the christmas special)For the record, I don’t think anything should be skipped during a watch through other than clip shows, but anon wanted to keep his wife engaged with Venture lore.I agree that episode 1 is basically a redone pilot, but there’s enough there to be entertaining. Still, probably the most skipable episode outside of the season 1 Christmas special.
>>221203776Not sure, don't think so. I would have been posting about it on some old school 2000's style forums, as well as on /tv/, but I don't remember much discussion about Baboon Heart anywhere. Saw some on Discord, even got some good discussion for a while, but I couldn't find a place specially for Venture Bros (or similar) talk, and discords for general adult cartoon or similar genre shows can be very cancer. Point being - for a very long time it had a decent and active fandom. I guess it has cooled off since then, but it didn't go rancid.
Operation PROM should have been the series finale and I stand on that opinion
>>221204024I went as Jonas to a comic con like a decade ago
>>221203706I think my big problem is I don't care about the Guild rules, and we spend so much time on them later on. The early series make it very clear how stupid the entire arching system is (Brock butchering henchmen and villains, the Monarch just murdering scientists other than Venture but having no idea what to do when he gets Venture, JJ almost destroying the Cacoon in one hit, etc.) Series 6 and 7 are almost entirely about rebuilding this absurd organisation and navigating its rules. It does eventually call it out as childish, but then goes right back to caring about it.Well, maybe this is the result of watching 20 years of TV in a couple of months.
>>221204541They seemed to be trying to make the point that the Guild and OSI rules were quite childish, but also that it was the only stable system that prevented nutjobs from shitting all over everything. It even seems like the childishness of the rules is part of why it works. And we had many characters who had different views on it. Someone like The Monarch was 'self-made', they actually lived up to the Guild stuff without caring too much about the Guild. Someone like Monstroso joined the Guild and lived it just in order to get the benefits. Someone like Doctor Zin really bought into it, but that's because he was on the board and he had it how he liked it. And then we had Augustus Saint-Cloud, who wanted to use it to get one specific thing (fucking with Billy Quizboy). Dr. Mrs. The Monarch was the best fit for it, she was upwardly mobile, talented, and bought into it, clearly she was going to end up running things. And many others but you get it. It all works because the writers had a good idea about it in their head, and they were able to draw it out over a few decades and subtly show how every character interacts with it. They just so happen to be the kind of characters who would also talk about it with each other, diagetically, and even give exposition and information dumps to each other.
>>221198772In season1 Mike Sorayama flashback episode you can deduct what likely happened off camera.
>>221189160>>221189317It’s too gay and goes from the first half of the show making gay jokes and being gay is a punchline including groomers then the latter half is being gay is some kind of coincidence now and we can’t joke about gay. And that is actually what led to its demise.

I have seen LITERALLY -every single animated adult comedy cartoon EVER MADE- (literally). That's why I can't remember the titles of anything. After you watch like 1000+ things you just can't keep it sorted anymore. Also because some are more obscure, yet more kino, its hard to remember obscure things because by definition they don't get brought up much.Try Drawn Together its not the same but its pretty good.

>>221203706>Season 2 was them discovering the amazing feats they could attempt with their silly little parody, the last seasons were them being trapped inside it.Eloquently put. I always thought that the show peaked in seasons 2 and 3. After that it struggled under the weight of its own lore. Season 5 is the nadir, in my opinion. It completed Rusty's flanderization into a dumbass and completely wasted Sgt. Hatred as a part of Team Venture. It would have been a neat change of pace to have a body guard that is able to leverage his extensive knowledge of Guild rules and politics, and use guns. He wasn't going to be the force of nature Brock was, but he didn't have to be so lame and useless either. The NYC seasons correct a bit by bringing Brock back, continuing the Hank & Dean stories, and putting more focus on the Monarch, but it never got back into the swing that seasons 2 & 3 had.

>>221189160Back in the day adult swim would re run this show constantly. I've probably seen the first 2 seasons half a dozen times. New eps never seemed to come out so I just assumed it was cancelled, I didn't realize they just took forever between making seasons. I stopped watching Adult Swim sometime in the late 2000s so it's a shock to me to learn that this show ran as long as it did. I don't remember it being anything more than okay to good. Is the whole series worth watching? The first season just felt like a generic Johnny Quest monster of the week parody. I do recall the second season getting a bit more interesting as it started to establish the nuance of a world where heros/supervillains were real (also kind of retroactively interesting that they were doing this before the explosion of Marvel movies) and they seemed to actually explore some character depth. Does that continue in a good way, or does it crawl up it's own ass into meta self-referential, look-how-smart-we-are-we're-clearly-using-this-to-vent-about-our-own-issues-and-therapy-sessions bull shit?
Anyone else grew to like Dermott over time? I hated him at first but realized it's because he's such an accurate depiction of "that kid" I grew up with. I liked his character development and I like that he kind of has his own life.

>>221212466I love this shitLike they just sat around looking up obscure industrial terms that could get turned into animal puns
>>221212144>makes a literal goddamn teleporter and the OSI have to blackmail him to not commercialize it
>>221212183>Jonas was a shitty personHe was just hard-partying swinger in his free time.
>>221189160Became way way too obsessed with its own lore
>>221212530I, in fact do enjoy the smell of my own farts and also my ballsack sweat on a hot summer day
>>221212493>hooks him up to a vr sex machine>get a nerd laid and they think they're master of the universe

I'M RUSTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
>>221201565i always hated this argument of theirs because they were both such "um, actually" nerds, especially 21. they should know that smurfette was literally a creation of gargamel, and not part of their original village, so eggs vs mammals is retarded and irrelevant. ALSO there ARE mammals that lay eggs anyway.
It heavily references my favorite gay pederast William S Burroughs with the Dr Gentleman character and even directly includes WSB’s real-life dead 14-year old Moroccan houseboy and lover Kiki as a character
>>221189160Sure, plenty. Venture Bros is definitely A tier but it's not S tier.
>>221216994They were from an era where you couldn’t just look up every autistic question about a certain piece of nerd culture on reddit
YOU'VE GOT PP ON YOUR BELT
Did Phantom limb ever get his dick reattached?
Such an underrated gem.
>>221216436They had two seasons in New York and these two never made their musical.
>>221216994pre smartphones even the sweatiest stinkiest nerds were only super knowledgable about 2 MAYBE 3 franchises, information wasnt as widespread or easily accessible
>>221189160I'm enjoying rewatching Archer. Besides that, the usual suspects ATHF and Xavier the Renegade Angel.
>>221211731Yeah that was the problem with the show for most people. It had a lore that relied heavily on callbacks to previous episodes but then took two years off between seasons. The only people who could follow the plot perfectly where obsessed nerds who revered the show and re-watched it consistently during the years it wasn't airing. Which is not an insult, it's cool to have a dedicated fanbase and make a show that caters to it, but it's understandable why it wasn't profitable for adult swim. I would've liked to have seen a season 8, but to be honest it did feel like it was running out of steam. That final movie was horrible

>>221218393>The Soft Machine for plebs
MARCO!
>>221189739I actually met Dean Venture's VA a couple of times as it was airing. Got him to sign some DVDs. Also got him to sign a Berserk DVD since he was the voice director for the dub of the series. He also was part of those outtakes.
>>221189317While Venture Brothers was a decent enough hit for Adult Swim, it was also by far their most expensive show to produce. Mike Lazzo was eager to help considering he loved it, but feels like one of those things where it broke even with each new season.
>>221189739I've watched since the pilot dropped. The ending to S1 and watching the S2 premiere blew my mind as a teenager.
>Alright, whatever you do, don't light up a cigarette. A good sniper can spot a cherry from a mile away>But I don't smoke>GOOD. Now's a lousy time to start
>>221219700>which one of you is Goku?
Kinda of wanted to see how it would have played out if Dr Girlfriend was actually a guy
