Why do people glorify war?
>>
>>221191544
Because it's badass
>>
>>221191544
It’s the purest form of love, camaraderie, and masculinity
>>
>>221191544
The only people who don't like war are those who aren't winning.
>>
>>221191544
War brings out man's best virtues
>>
>>221191544

because they need people to fight it (that aren't them)
>>
>>221191544
The only way you can take somebody else's property is through taxes or war.
From 1776 to 1913 the US government existed to prevent foreigners from taking your property, that was the only reason why people accepted a government to begin with.
>>
>>221191544
cuz it's fun
but only when the management is competent and everyone plays by the rules though, and that's almost never the case.
>>
It gives their lives meaning.
>>
>>221191544
Because war is the only true test of a man.

"I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent— no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you."
-- Seneca

Do you actually believe this?
>>
>>221192119
They weren't. Germany is vassalized and still under foreign occupation to this day.
>>
>>221192453
100 percent I believe it. War is the ultimate test.
>>
>>221192453
Yes. Almost every man would willingly die in a meaningful war. It’s the only noble thing to do
>>
>>221192577
What makes a war meaningful?
>>
>>221192604
nothing, every desire for the apocalypse of war is another way to embellish death with meaning
>>
>>221191544
Because war is when two people stop talking shit and one of them gets shut the fuck up forever.

Also, a lot of people not talking shit get killed for stupid reasons, and often jews get richer. And the person who was right isn't always the one that wins. So it's not all good.
>>
>>221192604
Defending your country from an invading force.
>>
>>221192453
He's right. In the case of Eastern Bloc countries, it's even more poignaint. They technically "won" or were "liberated" by Soviets, but they were (and still are) total shit holes under Soviet rule.

This pic pretty much made me watch this film like last month. It's cool that it's a production from another part of the world (Belarus, right?) and the sensibilities in filmmaking are different and all. I Also like stuff that's just different in terms of pacing. I'd have said theme, but I feel like it's pretty in line with standard antiwar film stuff.

I kept wanting it to go there tho. The massacre scene seemed to be all of what it's got. Yeah anticlimax for the story it's telling and all, but I didn't really feel the gut punch. Perhaps it was too impersonal? Or the way it was done just felt like less would have hit as more vs the cartoonish get-together. I'm sure nonsensical boys having a good old time killing happened in this theater, but the tone just didn't work with that scene. For me.

Am I missing something? Also the female lead, Glasha?, blood down the leg thing was just too on the nose and silly. 40s guy born in England watching Zulu, knowing a thing about our side of the war. Moved to US, its kind of silly how people say they saved the western world in this country. That just for context, not bringing up politics honestly.
Why don't I like this movie more? / What did I miss that makes this a powerful experience? As I say this picture of the actor making this face had me find and watch it. That can't be it..
>>

>Why don't I like this movie more?
Because 2.5 hours of people over-acting directly into the camera doesn't make for a very good experience.
And they murdered that poor fucking cow, it made such awful noises, it was in genuine agony.
Fuck Elem Klimov, that was completely unnecessary.
>>
>>221194638
oh.. that was an actual animal cruelty killing for the movie? I'd forgotten that was a thing in the film entirely..
I'm an asshole like everyone else, don't get it twisted, but I'm not THAT kind of asshole. Is that a thing from this movie? Lets see here
>>
>>221194660
holy shit and tracer rounds. Ok yeah what's actually worth talking about for this movie other than that dude pulling that face then? I don't get it, I watched this last month or so because of that picture
>>
>>221192119
The other side was Anglo-saxons
>>
I finally watched this. Early parts like his massacred village are very disturbing but it kinda loses the visceral quality in the middle and then i gets to the scene with them burning the building with all the people in it down and they play the whole scene like its funny to the soldiers committing the atrocities and it ends up making it feel kinda light and the protag's whole weird smile face feels really melodramatic and yeah that whole sequence is and what follows is a pretty notable blemish on an otherwise well directed and acted movie.

id say but modern warfare has lost the art and chivalry of the soul as men just pilot war machines that are far too great for us to temper with, theres no proud battle when you're behind disintegrated by giant metallic birds that are unavoidable when traversing the land, only war left that has any heart in it is maybe gonna be some sorta dogfighting?

Because killing niggers is God's work.
>>
>>221194573
you and me had the same experience and reaction to the cartoony climax, I really enjoyed it up to the scene with the pile of bodies in his village, also Glasha wasn't the raped woman that was a different woman
>>
I really liked the Glasha "i'm alive I want to have babys" existential speech scene, the way the planes flew over and men dropped from the sky, into them going into his village and him ignoring the corpses, that all felt really strong and cinematically horrific but to me they kinda lost it during and after the mud swamp, then hes got wicked plot armor and it makes the nazis killing those people look less than it should

Fucking stupid.

It's not 1000 BC you shits. Modern war is you getting blown up by a drone while taking a shit.
>>
>>221192453
100% yes. There's a lot of adrenaline junkies out there, and they'd all enjoy shooting at people and getting shot at if they weren't getting screwed by generals and there weren't any dip-shits committing war-crimes.
