Maybe we all know that already to some degree, but the film goes deeper and shows you that those people aren't just some harmless problem; the actions they choose to take, lead by cowardice and a kind of "nice-icism" can directly affect others because they interpret avoidant behaviour as something good, which it isn't.

When he made the wish to make Nikki fall in love with him and came to the realization that she no longer had full control of her body, he still took advantage of her and seemed perfectly content to rob Nikki of any agency so long as he could have her for himself. Yes he was. He didn’t have the balls to just ask his friend out, hell he couldn’t even attempt to flirt with her. She even gave him an opening and he pussed out. The thing that fell in love with him wasn’t the girl he was in love with, it was a servitor, programmed only to love him. When his wish was granted he still didn’t have the balls to embrace it, instead the wish personality had to force every encounter. He knew from the jump that things weren’t right but once faced with the reality of the wish he traumatized and essentially lobotimized the girl he loved to preserve his idea/dream of their relationship. Not to mention that he dipped out on the demented puppet to visit the girl who was head over heels for him knowing that hey this unstable bitch is dangerous but his callous nature led to that girls death. He didn’t even redeem himself in the end, he couldn’t shoot himself and tried to vomit his overdose up. His friends, dead, him, dead, the loce of his life, permanently traumatized and facing life in prison.
