What is there? I don't know shit about jap cinema short of godzilla and kurosawa. Surely they did some sick shit in the 80s particularly?

>>221195960I will shill the Female Prisoner Scorpion movies every chance I get. Awesome little series of exploitation revenge flicks from the 70s with a really cool visual style and some great music. Same lead actress as Lady Snowblood, which is also essential viewing. I consider the first two movies to be masterpieces. The third is a step down but still pretty good. The fourth one is skippable.

>>221195960Why did the Japanese film industry die? They literally make nothing but live action anime adaptations now
>>221196756Not only die, but regressed to the point that Japan literally doesn't have the institutional knowledge to make competent films anymore, which is why all their movies now have the visual quality of a porno.

>>221195960Bottom row of picrel are all '79 and after, all kino. I've heard Mishima is great but haven't seen it yet. The actor who plays Mishima plays the lead role of the serial killer in Vengeance is Mine (loosely based on a true story) and it's an really great performance. I only heard of it bc Friedkin listed it as one of his favorite films.
>>221196756They died like every other film industry initially, TV. They never recovered.
I'll stick with Korea thanks
>>221197194Awesome collection. Haven't seen Sword of Doom or Vengeance Is Mine yet, but the others are all incredible.
>>221196756They make plenty of indie and experimental stuff but they don't make action slop so you only know about sentai and parody shit that you take literally because you're a redditor that can't detect sarcasm in a text unless it has a /s at the end.
