Pressure

It's fine, I guess. Admirable to make a movie about the D-Day weather forecast. Ironically, the movie fails under pressure and doesn't believe that premise can be interesting enough on its own. This is demonstrated by a couple of additions.

It begins and ends with his wife. She doesn't have any real lines and serves no on-screen purpose. There's also about 5 minutes of D-Day Omaha B-roll, throwing a bone to attendees who need some action. Both of these feel tacked-on to the central drama of the meteorologist and his doubters.

Could have been a superb 8/10 had they created more interesting relationships. Stagg's stiff upper lip and Eisenhower's crushing anxiety are both engaging and carry the entire movie. I would've liked even more heat in the Stagg-Kirk dynamic.

Flawed 7/10

Yay, more American military propaganda!

Ike was quite competent and was sure that everything would go according to plan

Frasier has a perpetual lonseome look on his face as if both his dog and pet cat just died and he has no clue what's going. It's simply terrible casting.

>how dare you make movies about your ancestors >:(

Before Chuck Yeager became an ace, he got shot down over France and physically had to hike into spain to be picked up and brought back into allied territory, he personally had to have correspondence with Eisenhower to get clearence again to fly because of red tape because he had previously been told about the D Day landings and could potentially be an intelligence risk if he was shot down again.

Dwight was like "yeah go fly, I dont give a fuck, lmao", and Yeager was immediately brought back to his unit to fly again

>>221196707
> "I raised so much hell that General Eisenhower finally let me go back to my squadron" Yeager said

So ike was incompetent and didn’t know about op sec?

>D-day is actually a fucking meme, when you read about it
>barely 4,000 people died during the entire landing operation (because 99% of germans were busy in russia)
>bankrupt holywood is looking for ways to promote the meme american involvement in WW2
>nobody seems to care anymore
>>
>>221196732
I think Yeagar was just that persistent he got Ike to give in
>>
>>221196749
>d day wasnt bad because the eastern front was worse
american exceptionalism and jealous seething at america are two sides of the same coin
>>
>>221196530
Why is America the only country not allowed to celebrate or venerate its past?

>single largest amphibian invasion ever conducted in the history of warfare

Lmao, OK, Eurotroon.
>>
>>221196749
Because everyone knows now that both World Wars were orchestrated by jews to eliminate as many white men as possible.

Eisenhower was an anxious wreck. He was drinking 20 cups of coffee and smoking 6 packs every day
>>
>>221197153
Sicily landing wad bigger.

No one cares caude the italians folded like a chinese suit
>>
>>221196749
The lead up to D-Day is far more interesting than the landings themselves. This is why I always liked The Longest Day, especially since most of the action is shown from the POV of paratroopers who also had a more interesting role in the battle.

>american distortion of reality is making people angry
yup.
>>221197153
it wasnt the biggest.
>>221197169
this.
>>221197201
the most interesting part of d day is that is was actually a badly picked backup plan, the original plan was to invade from the balkans, and combine forces with the soviets.
>but if we did that, europe wouldnt be cut in half for 50 years
literally everything about WW2 was a scam.
>>
>>221197365
>the original plan was to invade from the balkans
>invading the mountains of Italy isn't enough, we need MORE MOUNTAINS and further away from our supplies
what a terrible plan, thank Christ it wasn't selected
>>
>>221197365
>it wasnt the biggest.
It literally, provably was. Read a book, nigga.
>>
THE BRENAISSANCE CONTINUES!
>>
>>221197541
the terrain wasnt an issue, the only reason that plan was rejected was to cut europe in half.
america gets one half to play with, russia gets the other half to play with.
and in the end, everybody lost - europe, russia and america.
>>
>>221196749
>saving private ryan
>the d day scenes shows there were like 4 germans on the entire beach
the movie was more historically accurate than people realize.
>>
>>221197365
whats funny is that americans dont think about or care about your perception of reality at all. you could just stop getting mad about it, but you were told to be mad so thats who you are.
>>
>>221197756
>the terrain wasnt an issue
Yes it clearly was
>>
>>221197925
>please stop noticing that americans are creating a fake reality and expect worship in that fake reality they are creating
nah
>>
>>221196217
Hollywood is really scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point.
>>
>>221197990
the world realized america didnt really do anything in ww2, so there is zero interest in these propaganda flicks.
>>
>>221196749
>because 99% of germans were busy in russia
The number is 50% in Russia and 25% in the West. However, any normal land assault requires 3:1 superiority. Amphibious assaults require 5:1 superiority AND you have to get them across the ocean AND land them where they should be AND support the landing until they carve out a beach head. That what made D-day an impressive undertaking. Also, Stalin was bleating and begging the West to invade France because he was not making good progress in the east, BUT he hypocritically refused to declare war against Japan AND even imprisoned downed American airmen who crashed in Russia while fighting Japan.

stop taking twitter memes as actual history, dumbass faggot.
>pic related
>the western front in france doesnt even exist yet

>The "Balkan Strategy" was heavily championed by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. He envisioned attacking Europe's "soft underbelly" through the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea.
>Post-War Spheres of Influence: Churchill’s hidden motive was to use Allied troops to block the Soviet Red Army from occupying Central and Eastern Europe.
>Stalin's Demands: Joseph Stalin was fully aware of Churchill's intentions. At Tehran, Stalin firmly demanded a massive second front in Western Europe to draw German divisions away from the Eastern Front. He vehemently rejected any Anglo-American interference in southeastern Europe.
Churchill really was the smarted politician in recent history.
Dude was already trying to shape the post-war world, and the dumbass mutts rejected it.
>>
>>221198290
>Churchill really was the smarted politician in recent history.
there is a good reason why russians and wehraboos hate Churchill with a seething fucking passion after so many years.
>>
Will watch anyway for Brendan Fraser, and reviews are pretty solid
>>
>>221197189
It was the style at the time.
>>
Very dramatized. Surely the forecasts are clear as day, and analog charts and the weather patterns of Africa v Europe, any midmit could comprehend.
>>
Movie was entertaining, and forgettable. Not sure what more they could have done with just that weather angle.

Churchill was a fat drunken fuck who's dipshit failure to stumbling success ratio was upwards of 5:1, unpopular enough to immediately lose first the election after the war, who's reputation was subsequently shined up by sycophantic buttlicking Tory biographers desperately trying to associate the party with wartime success as a route back to power.

It's genuinely embarrassing that anyone is dumb enough to buy into the 80% fictional "genius strategist" they rewrote the dumb aristo cunt into.

The max range of artillery today, 80 years later, is 20 km. Who's stoopid now.
