Instead of long ago Jacob making a mistake by throwing his brother into the light, there was a glitch and the kids create a time loop/bubble dimension when they poured their hopes into the tree. The MIY needs Tabitha and Jade to figure out how to break the cycle that keeps the monsters and the MIY contained in the bubble. The BIW is neutral, not good or bad. He wants to break the cycle, too, for different reasons.
