Predator 2 is a master class on how to make a sequel, same formula with a radically different setting and new type of protagonist. From the actual jungle to the urban jungle, from fighting an elite merc to going up against a supercop.Still not as great as the original (which is the best American action film ever made) but I don't see how they could have made any better of a sequel.

The sequel is more of an actual sci-fi film with the CIA following the alien and you see inside their ship, and it's set in the near future.

Let's write Predator 3. Set in 2000s War in Iraq. Team encounters predator and calls it in. Military, aware of a 10 year gap between hunts is ready. Predator killer team is deployed and brutally takes out predator and no bomb this time.They try bring the body in for study and the adult predators supervising the hunt are pissed and send in a soldier team of predators to recover the body so it isn't defiled.

Predator really is an anomaly. It's such a simple concept yet it produced 2 of the best kinos the world ever had. Most great movies usually have at least some nuance to it, a literary backdrop or something. Nope, just a xeno hunter pwning plebs for fun until he messed with the wrong meat suit.

The thing I love about the first two is their unique idea of "take a generic action movie premise, start playing it out straight, then have the characters realize they're being attacked by something from a different genre." Predator was jungle commandos fight the communist guerillas and Predator 2 was cops vs gangsters. It's tough to keep that up without getting too ridiculous though. And Predator is an anomaly for how good it ended up being when it was on course to be absolutely terrible at first. They fixed so much and made something amazing.
